Growing up, my Mom would make waffles from scratch. Those were so good. The best part was she would always have leftover batter and would cook extra waffles. After breakfast, she would put them in the refrigerator for later. Later was when we were looking for a snack. Those were so good cold, no butter, no syrup. I miss her.
I happened to find the Presto Flipside waffle maker at Goodwill for $6. I had no idea how well it would perform, but it was one of the best waffles I'd ever had. I had no clue how ATK rated it before buying it, but I'm not surprised to find it's their runner up!
We have the older model Waring Pro rotary single Belgian waffle iron (non stick) that still works well despite the numbers on the temperature dial have worn off,but the indicator light and beeper are still working.Really like how the new model has a knob instead of the long handle ours has, this allows for a more compact unit that makes storage easier.
I bought their budget recommendation. It’s pretty good, no complaints except that the timer conked out recently. But it doesn’t affect the operation of the appliance.
I never saw a comparison video or anything, but I shopped and I read reviews, and I bought a Waring. I've had waffles just about every Saturday for years using the Waring Pro, and they're right: it's a great, double waffle maker. Never needs cleaning--nothing sticks if you season it before the very first use. Waring sold this maker to Cuisinart, and now I have one of those. It's the same except for the elimination of one little light. But it beeps courteously when the waffle is done, etc. We use Krusteaz waffle mix, which seems to us to be the best.
I asked for a waffle maker a couple years ago for Xmas...Love my rotating cuisinart that brings the best on Sunday!! Feels like we're staying in a motel!!
@@luchinooliveros2469 I see what you're saying, now captions in settings only allows how you view the captions. I used to be able to turn captions on/off for all videos there, they changed it. So yes they need to allow the captions for their videos. Please disregard my prior comment. Thought I could be helpful, but not so much lol. Apologies.
It can sometimes take a while for closed captions to show up on RU-vid videos. Some captioning companies have up to a 24hr turnaround. Try checking back later.
Hello I just watched your video of waffle makers. Today is 20 Oct 2019; and I am going with the Presto Flipside; I purchased it today for $29. Can't wait to try it out. Your video was very helpful
This video was published on March 11, 2019. On ATK’s site, they have this same review and it shows at the top of the article “UPDATE JANUARY *2017* Cuisinart has terminated its Waring Pro line. Our winning Belgian waffle iron, the Waring Pro Double Belgian Waffle Maker (model WMK600), is now called the Cuisinart Double Belgian Waffle Maker (model WAF-F20B). We purchased the new model, tested it, and, despite a minor cosmetic change of the heat-control knob, its status has not changed; it remains our favorite.” Was this video just recycled and they missed a step? Sloppy work, regardless.
Hello everyone. This testing result couldn't have come at a more timely manner since my wife & I were just talking about looking for another waffle maker. We will have to look into a "flip" since it's a great deal! Thanks for sharing. :)
Can I have two xtra bacon, sausage , butter and cool whip . And don't forget the syrup. I recently threw out our old one . The clip to hold it down broke , it was a trip to hold down as the waffle started to expand. Going shopping today. Thanks guys
Love waffles❣️ I am really disappointed with the disqualification of waffle makers that make waffles less than an inch thick. Could you please test both types next time?
The test of regular waffle makers is available on the ATK Web site, along with 18+ years of other tests. It's well worth the subscription fee, because you also have access to every show from every season that's been aired on PBS. (It's now in it's 19th season.) So all the equipment tests, all the recipes, all the cooking demonstrations, all the "gadget guru" segments, etc. (By the way, this video is a clip from Season 17, Episode 7: The Ultimate Sticky Buns.)
I love mine. Krups. Removable plates. Plates are dishwasher safe. Love that. Cord wrap. Locking, store on side if wish. Toasting level dial. Krups calls it Belgian. Don't know if it is 1 inch. It's close if it isn't. 4 squares. On light and ready light. 👍$80. Amazon has a $20 coupon right now.
Cuisinart bought Waring and the model in the link is for a cuisinart. Are they still the same quality as they were before? Did the cheaper single waffle maker by cuisinart not make them as good? Also why didn't you link to any of the other models? Not even the best buy model.
I had a KitchenAid Pro-Line rotating waffle maker. It worked well, but took up a ton a space. I switches to the Breville Smart Waffle, which makes 4 square Belgian waffles at one time; it gives a crisp outside with tender fluffy inside. Surprised it wasn’t included in this test.
I'm guessing they didn't look at square/rectangular waffle makers. Waffles with corners are presumed to have uneven heating. (Maybe America's Test Kitchen would like to test that bit of mythology?)
I have a cuisinart waffle maker that you pour batter in from the top...it is a space saver and works perfectly...do not even have to spray it before putting batter in...
I have this one too. I think it works really well. I love it. I only wish the plates were removable so that they can be washed more easily. Other than that, it's great.
@@carowells1607 ..there is a model from cuisinart that you fill when iron is closed...the platres that make waffle are horizontal and there is an opening at top to pour batter in.
The link in the description of the "winning" waffle maker isn't the one claimed in the video. Or am I mistaken that Cuisinart and Waring are the same company?
Holy smokes. I searched Amazon specifically for a Waring brand iron, and the only options that came up that were able to do two waffles at once were *hundreds* of dollars. I did some more searching, and both Waring and Cuisinart are owned by Conair. (Not sure if that answers the question...)
This is an upload of an old show; the Waring Pro Waffle Maker was discontinued a few years ago. Waring and Cuisinart have the same parent company, and the Waring brand is now being used more for the commercial side, while the Cuisinart brand is more for the consumer side.
@@triplexinaz The Waring Pro changed name to Cuisinart, bit it's the same machine. The Waring Commercial line is different, and is intended for restaurants and such. The current model of the winner from this video has an MSRP as of May, 2020 of $99.95, but can often be found for less. See: www.cuisinart.com/shopping/appliances/waffle_makers/waf-f20
Time for an update. There are now several brands making double waffles and I would like a comparison with your winner here, which is now rebranded as Cuisinart.
I bought a griddle/waffle maker from Cuisinart - after only a few uses (less than 6) it died but conveniently after the return allowance was over. Over $100, an appliance should last longer than that. I'll never buy any Cuisinart again.
We've had the Presto for over 10 years. It's still going strong, although the non-stick is getting a little sticky at this point. A little spray and it's fine. I've seen it for as little as $25 on sale. They have a recipe for "Flavorful Whole Grain Waffles" with some whole wheat and oat flower that is a family favorite.
I was thinking of looking at used ones on eBay so I'll keep this in mind. I know I'll hardly ever use it so I don't wanna spend much. But I still want one anyway🙂
I looked for one but couldn't find it. But all the other waffle iron reviews outside of ATK used the same criteria. Some picked a different waffle maker but it was always the thicker waffle maker. I guess people don't think the thin waffle makers are worth buying?
They reviewed standard waffle makers in Season 11, but there's no equipment test listed so no updates. On that episode, though, the winner was the Chef's Choice Waffle Pro Express, and the particular model they picked is still available as the Chef's Choice Five of Hearts Electric Waffle Maker: www.bedbathandbeyond.com/store/product/chef-39-schoice-reg-wafflepro-five-of-hearts-electric-waffle-maker/1017806637?skuId=17806637
I make delicious, near perfect pancakes on my large cast iron skillet all the time and am not seeking to improve on that. It IS interesting to guess what others are "thinking"?! Ha! Thanks!
It is interesting that you know exactly what he is referring to?? I grew up using a full sized "sunbeam" waffle griddle / iron that made 1/2" thick waffles with much smaller indentations then the typical Belgian style that are more popular today. I am 62 and not trying to be smart here . . . but have eaten a lot of waffles in my life. Thanks!
This waffle maker is no longer available, does anyone know if the Cuisinart WAF-F40 Double Flip Belgian Waffle Maker,New Black/Stainless is its replacement?
I have a pre-WWII waffle maker. It's made of cast iron and rests in a cast iron ring. Non-electric, no batteries, no beeps, no lights. Works on everything from a campfire to a regular (not ceramic top) stove top. Not exactly Belgian waffles, height-wise, but great waffles all the same.
Many of us want to return to the thinner waffle to make a variety of things. Can you do an upadate with today’s REguLAR style waffle irons, pretty please with maple syrup on it?
The black n decker did not have a light to let you know it's done, only to let you know that it is preheated. I own it and would live a timer, but the directions state that it's done cooking when it is no longer steam coming from the iron.

I have the Waring pro and love it so much! Makes beautiful and evenly browned waffles every single time. I’ve had it for 3 years. My mom even brings it to daycare to cook for the 24 goobers in her class. Wish the plates were removable tho for when I make liege waffles. I compensate by making sacrificial waffles to grab the caramelized sugar from coking liege waffles lol.
Gee, the Oster version you claimed produced a cardboardy product shocked me. I have used it for years and just ❤️ it. I have never found the Waffles like Cardboard.
From the ATK Web site: "Cuisinart has terminated its Waring Pro line. Waring/Cuisinart: I own a belgian waffle maker that is now a door stop, after having made about 20 waffles with it. My waffle maker broke at the pivot point one year after the end of the warranty. I can not get a replacement part to fix it myself. That part was badly engineered and failed prematurely. They don't bother to supply their customers with repair parts. Won't buy any of their products in the future.
Go to RU-vid and search for a video on high altitude cooking. I saw a good one (can't remember the title or I would tell you), and it was very helpful.
@@bobloblaw6138 I've been a subscriber since the days when it was Cook's Magazine and there was no Web site. I also got a chance to meet four of the cast/staff members at the America's Test Kitchen: Seattle EATS event a few months ago; outgoing, friendly, and knowledgeable people. I walked out with several cookbooks that I hadn't planned on buying, but after flipping through the pages I couldn't resist.
@@seikibrian8641 Thanks for the info... I was on the fence about signing up, but you just swayed me lol. I actually own a couple of the cookbooks (given to me as gifts) so I'm sure it will be worthwhile. Thanks!
Ours looks exactly like the one that they said made the pale sad looking one. BUT it actually is the best one we’ve ever used. The waffles turn out perfectly every time and we both were like, “what?!” So I guess I can’t trust these reviews fully. Maybe that one just looks like ours, I just looked and ours is a “Bella Cucina Artful Food” and it’s seriously the best waffle maker we’ve ever used.
The new rounds of all tests are available to all who subscribe to their Web site. You know, those of us who actually financially support their tests. However here's what they say about the winning Belgian waffle maker: "Cuisinart has terminated its Waring Pro line. Our winning Belgian waffle iron, the Waring Pro Double Belgian Waffle Maker (model WMK600), is now called the Cuisinart Double Belgian Waffle Maker (model WAF-F20B). Receiving plate starts cooking immediately, so barely fill all cavities. Flipping sends batter into cavities of other plate. Rising batter fills interior.
It's all about gravity and surface contact. Flipping keeps the lightness of the interior more even. The old cast-iron waffle iron I used over a campfire 50 years ago also worked best if it was flipped after pouring in the batter, and that wasn't just to keep both sides hot.
I used to own the runner up. The waffles come out pretty, but they taste funny as if the outside is over cooked even when not left in too long. And that means the fluffy inside is super thin. I think this is due to the very deep waffling pattern.
I own this Waring Pro Double waffle Maker. I have had 2 of them in the last 8 yrs, The first one lasted barely over the warranty and Warring Pro had No problem sending me a new one, The one I have now , one of the waffles will not cook properly and one does still work fantastically. So now I find myself hunting for the Last Waffle Maker I will ever buy.. Waring Pro makes a commercial double waffle maker but that is some serious $$, Looked at Kitchenaid will get something before Christmas and hope not to spend more than $200 I tell you what , The Goodnight Waffle that came with the Warning PRO Has a recipe for the best waffle ever
What about that last one on the counter ... they went from disqualified, to problems of various kinds, to ones that had the bells and whistles, to the recommended, then there's that last one on the end they don't point to at all ... 2:55 now we come to these two ... but there's a third on the end there ...
I'm surprised that All Clad wasn't included in this testing? I've had mine for at least 10 years now, always reliable but not cheap. Oh, maybe that is why it wasn't included? I believe AC's are in the $200 range? Not sure.
Adam: "We set a price cap of a hundred dollars..." The All-Clad Classic Waffle Maker is $129.95 at Williams Sonoma, and the All-Clad Four Square is $199.95, although I don't know how much they were when this segment was shot; it was part of an episode that aired in February of 2017.
I really love thin waffles like waffle house waffles I would really like to know what models were not in your Belgian waffle list because I really like thin waffles please and thank you in advance
It happened to me, six months out of warranty and a critical piece failed (bad engineering) and they won't supply me with a replacement part I'm willing to pay for, not available!
Missing a lot of contenders and seems most and for good reason suffer the same issues as any cooking platform including learning the temperature curve. Nothing in the cooking arena is ever going to make one thing or many things over and over 100%. If you choose one, it's more about reliability then absolute perfection every time. Perfection in most cases will come from learning the curve. What you should have done was spent more time throwing names under the bus so they could come back to answer you. No names, only the winner. Well if you want to bring 14 units out there then show them in action and why they are good and the bad; as I said before everything in the kitchen has it's learning curve. Fact is you have to prove results good or bad up front not in the back kitchen. Is what it is. I don't even think you were selling this thing, it might have been the absolute truth; but that needs to be seen.
They disqualified the first three units because those machines did not make a 1 inch tall waffle. I don't believe any amount of "learning the curve" is going fix that physical limitation of the machine.
