The South Fremantle legend so often gave his rivals a ruck masterclass on his way to a remarkable Australian Football Hall of Fame career. The Wagin product is considered by many to be the best-ever WA player to resist the lure of heading east to accept offers to play in the VFL.

As a mad bulldogs supporter growing up I loved watching Stephen Michaels; Benny Vigona , Maurice Rioli and Basil Campbell; legendary south players and great Aboriginal sportsmen ,,

This to have a go at South Australian football. Stephen Michale and Billy Walker performed in Adelaide when WA played SA over there while Barry Robram did not play well in Perth. In order of this why has Robram been elevated to AFL Hall of Fame Legend Status and both Michael and Walker are ignored.

I have a bottle of the 81 sandover medal port. Even though I was a swans supporter I used to like watching Michaels when souths came to Basso oval. Him and Ron Boucher going head to head

Utterly robbed of a 3rd Sandover. As an East Fremantle supporter this was why we all loved State of Origin. When football was King and the big men would fly.

As crazy as it is to say,, the highlights package almost doesnt do him justice. Some days (quite often) TI would just take over games and be utterly dominant in a way you hardly ever see on a footy field. It was ridiculous really...ask Mossy 🙂

Whilst Stephen was a great footballer, and one of the nicest blokes you could meet, I would say Swan Districts rover Billy Walker was the best WAFL player to reject the VFL. Billy and Barry Cable reigned supreme as the best roving combination in Australian state team competition.
