Ben needs to find "Redfish Reef", in Galveston, TX. Tanker surfing brings 3' waves with every shipping vessel entering the ship channel, but the oyster shell reef is only above water during the lower tides. Don't place your cooler on the 'reef' at high tide and expect that it will be there at low tide. Don't fret: we're used to seeing the black-tipped reef sharks everywhere. They only dance on the water surface in the Spring... But, they're always there. You wonder where faith healing comes from, in Texas?

Hey, Bro! That's awesome. Up in the North Bay of San Francisco, Marin County the Hawaiian Outrigger club I used to race with has their canoes stored next to the Ferry Boats Launch in Larkspur on one side and San Quentin Prison on the other side. When we are out on the Bay practicing the Ferry Boats have their lane and we catch their wakes whenever possible. We're talking an OC 6 outrigger canoe 40 ft long 18 inches wide and 18 inches deep powered by six paddlers and we get to surf the wakes when it happens that we are near the ferries while they are making their trip from Larkspur to San Francisco and Oakland. Lots of fun. One year as a novice level paddler I was the steersman for a race our neighboring club was putting on and I was the steersman for mixed men and women novice race alongside the Golden Gate Bridge at the Horshoe Bay where the Coastguard station is almost underneath the G.G. Brigde and we were racing a sprint alonside the cliffs and a giant cargo ship loaded with containers motored by about 150 or 200 yards away and the wake rolled towards us from our right side and I had nowhere to go except over the wave which was about an 8 foot face. I yelled at the team to keep paddling, do not stop paddling, and I steered that canoe parallel to the face of the wave and I could see it was about to crest and the water getting shallow so I dug the paddle in hard and deep und pulled the nose around to point up the face and still yelling to keep paddling and everyone did their job and kept our momentum forward as we peaked over the crest before it became a lip and now my concern was keeping the Ama (outrigger pontoon) from being buried in the face of the wave as it curled over to start to break. So I had to thonk fast and steered the canoe hard right to get us straight over the backside of the wave. It was awesome. Everyone on the cliffs watching started cheering and we continued with our sprint race and we got the gold. It was a great race and a great day. My experience in surfing and skateboarding helped so much.

Waves created by a ferry. That's a new one for me. I surfed for at least 45 yrs. First board was a pop-out 8' something or other inches. Good for learning. Folks gave me a new 10' Hansen for my 16th bday. Yrs later i bought an 8'10" from Costco....great board too. Best spots here in north san diego county: tamarack street in carlsbad, cardiff reef, swami's point. Trestles one of the best...good waves, lazy break. LoL, friend n I talked to james arness, star of gunsmoke tv show, if yer old enuff to remember it.

No waves huh North Carolina I grew up in Southern California we always have waves to ride. Weather is great year around I would not want to live anywhere else even with our homeless, and high prices. We have Glamis sand dunes, 12k foot mountains for skiing mountain climbing.

This is Epic. I was searching RU-vid for barge waves because I rode a barge wave for the first time at the San Francisco Delta. I didn't realize how powerful some can be. One barge wave pushed a bunch of docks up onto the shore and the people having picnics on the sand got washed out. lol

Public Service Announcement... I may have mentioned it before, but when you wear one of those beach hats like Ben did on a couple of those waves, If you put the "Chin." strap behind your head and cinch it up tight under the base of your skull it will stay on much better in the wind. Enjoy!

Was the whole crew in Highlands? Dang. Saw the sweet rides from Ben. Then Balir and Jamie but it was too fogged out to see East Point. Not sure if that footage was still there or from another spot. Cool ya got it on the way out just when the SeaStreak got outta the no wake zone. Real shallow on that Hook side too. (Almost ran my old boat aground there coming in from fishing one time in the fog. ) Killer! Edit. PS. 12.02 Prime Lid.
