They were very popular in the United States during the 1980s with mini reef tanks. They had been popular in Europe since the 1970s

I run a DIY wet dry on my koi pond. It works pretty good even when I let the pond get over stocked.

Great review. The wet dry filter is an excellent filter for Discus tanks, where the 84 to 86 degree water is actually low in oxygen. The high output of oxygenated water works well.

Really grateful for this greater information, the biggest bit of new information you've given me with this is the volume. My spouse being a needed of hearing aids, but as it'd be me with better than average for my age hearing, that'll be taking care of this & the bioloads in my main planned set of tanks will be huge, but I'm still mentally debating things as having a refugium to raise snails separate from the fish that'd otherwise quickly eat them if housed in the same tank so, I'm glad it'll be at least a few months yet before my sizable building begins.

They might be looked at as old school now, but there's no denying how incredibly effective trickle filters are. And they can be DIY'd out of almost anything! They can go above or below your tank, and with the high level of oxygenation you can keep a very tight fitting lid up top if needed.

I haven't had reason to recommend this exact video, but I have recommended the ugf series. I was warning ppl on a father fish vid to avoid adding pond muck to their tanks if they're in a high agricultural area and someone replied asking about doing a dirted tank w/ ugf. I of course immediately recommended the ugf via because I remember you hitting on that it is possible, and scrolling comments, seeing ppl who have had success. Thanks for all these videos Bentley! You rock! 🙏💙✌️

The return cannot be too deep in the display tank. Otherwise when the power is shut off the water can siphon down into the sump causing it to overflow.

An easy fix for this is to drill a very small hole in the return where you want the water line to stop. It will break siphon on its own in a power outage.

Since this is a visual media, you should have example of things for folks to look at...in this case, wet dry filters. Otherwise its a lot of blah, blah blah with no understanding...sorry
