U really want to have one of these . Obtain couple of sausages, that "mystery cooking" aka lihapiirakka, some ketchup and mustard, pickles, maybe something else like onions... Cut that lihapiirakka in the middle, horizontal way, add those sausages (fully steamed , of course !) and sort of other stuff. Go to Nokia, stay at Scandic Hotel Eden for spa stuff, check for example Nokian Autogrilli for kuuma koira, they have also other version, which is hot and spicy Kuuma koira. Just a local advice.

Nokialainen Kuuma Koira on kyllä yllättävän hyvää. Kokeilepa joskus siellä Daven Koekeittiössä tehdä turkkilainen lihapiirakka, Peremec, eli suomalaisittain Perämetsä (Back Woods). Ja sama lontooksi: _Please, try sometimes do Peremec's, Turkish meat pies. It's the best meat pie I know. There is a lot of recipes online, but most of them are just too lame what comes to spices. Peremec has to be a little spicy, a little hot, so remember to add some chili or cayenne pepper into the beef. Or you can also add your favorite hot sauce on top of it when you're eating it. I know you will love those badboys!_

Greetings from Tampere. Thx for the fun video! I got hungry while watching it. :) I'm not a kuuma koira specialist but I think that you made couple of things differently (vs. if you were to buy a kuuma koira from some grill). 1) Those big munkkis have apple or strawberry jam filling that is put in before the munkki is fryed. (It could be possible that some grills are ordering munkkis without jam for their koiras but I'm not sure about that. Normally you will not find unfilled big munkkis from bakerys. 2) The sausages should be some quality sausages, not "HKn sininen" and smaller in size. 3) I believe (but I'm not totally sure) that you you are supposed to warm up that munkki before filling it with sausage and other stuff. 4) Onions are traditionally served raw. (I think that your onions could taste better anyway)
@syv2un1
@syv2un1 3 года назад
As a native Nokian I can tell you that you missed the mark on the sausage! It's even better with the original, Tampereen Lihajaloste's höyrymakkara. Tiny change, but makes the doughnut and relish work better with the sausage.

You’re right about the kurkkusalaatti and donut combination. There was a kiosk in my hometown run by an old woman, who sold only donut with kurkkusalaatti, mustard and ketchup 50cent a piece. With 1 euro extra you couldnget sausage in it. Oh boy, those were the days...

Dave, for the future: If you want to do more doughnuts or other goods that needs to be boiled with cooking oil, I *highly* suggest to go buy a roasting meter (paistomittari)! Because the trick with boiling cooking oil is that you know exactly the temperature of the oil, if it’s too low, it’s gonna take more time and your dough might still be raw. But if it’s too high (over 200 degrees of celsius) there’s a risk that the oil will burst into flames and might start ”rasvapalo” a fire.

I think you are supposed to use a "nakki" or at least a slim sausage on that one
@sasiuru

No your are not. Thick sausage, steamed. (Living in Nokia and know product and history of it)

@@sasiuru Ah. Color me corrected. I haven't been to Nokia that many times and this thing was one of the worst things I ate as a local thing. I don't like sweet with my savory
@pev_

Depending on the size of the donut, I think it would be more reasonable to use "nakki", or maybe even two of them side by side. A thicker sausage makes it more difficult to eat. Of course you could always argue what was in the original thing, but why, since a "nakki" is pretty much the same as a "lenkki" unless the recipe specifically calls for a specifically flavored sausage :)
@sasiuru
@sasiuru 3 года назад
@@pev_ Mostly they use steamed sausage, and often steamed sausage is thicker "Lenkki" style. Slight differences on taste, non-native finnish wouldn't spot difference (as both are mostly made from flour, not meat...) :)
@pev_
@pev_ 3 года назад
@@sasiuru Come on. There are dozens of variations of both nakki and lenkki and both can be steamed. So you cannot really generally say lenkki is better than nakki tastewise, unless, like I said, you require a specifically flavored one (which might only be available in one form). And I am not aware that taste, as in discriminating between variations, is a thing depending on your country of origin. You can prefer a certain taste by what you are used to from your upbringing or culture, but I think the taste buds of all humans can still tell about the same differences.

Yep, never heard this one. I just know that hot dog is in Finnish kuuma koira though most don't translate it.

I am definitely gonna try this. I have family mökki in Pirkanmaa, near Nokia and I haven't heard of this. The locals really keep it in their culture. Also the side of Suomitube that I haven't seen. One of the videos were "Hampaaton läski syö: osa 107 - Kuuma koira" (= a toothless fat eats: part 107 - Kuuma koira). They have 13.9K subscribers, whaaaat? :D

In old times, at least before WWII, most Finns didn't speak any English, and everything was translated into Finnish. I recall reading some old translated cartoon or such, where they had a hot dog booth and a text "kuumia koiria" over it. It is possible, that "kuuma koira" has developed since that into a different direction from hot dog, but I've never even heard about sausages, ketchup and mustard between sokerimunkki.

Vau!

They sell it at Tammelantori market square in Tampere so it would have been faster to just take a train there and back. That's not the point though. Self made stuff often tastes more delicious as you've had so much effort for it. :-D

I'm from Nokia, the original Kuuma Koira doesn't have jam in it. Steamed sausage, not fried. Pickle relish, mustard and ketchup add raw onion or roasted onion hack. Basically if you have jamles donut and the steamed sausage it's kuuma koira other fillings are optional. So you are/were making one.

I think for the donut, your oil was too hot. The outside was nice and brown but the inside was still raw. Next time, lower your oil temperature and cook it for longer :) I'm actually super interested to make it! It looks quite nice actually!
