I don't think it was boring. I think is an awesome point of education. Till I started building rods I didn't TRULY know or understand what power vs action actually did for a fisherman. Keep up the good work!

Grabbing one of these next week they look great. You call it boring, this explained things in simple terms where no one else on youtube has...

A couple of months ago, I called customer service at St. Croix. and asked the nice lady, with whom I spoke, why the majority of their rods were fast action. Her answer, essentially, was that it allowed a better hookset. This reflects what you are saying in this video about rod manufacturers and their emphasis on fast and extremely fast actions. Over time, I have come to think that slower-action rods have better castability. In addition, l, like you, have realized that the power ratings among manufacturers is all over the place. Therefore, what I prefer to look at, when I am researching rods is 1) the range of pounds-test line that it accommodates and 2) the range of lure weights. Then, I look at the rod's action. I'm sure that not everyone will do it my way but my approach just make sense to me. Thank you for this video. I learned a lot.

I didn't find it boring and in fact noticed while fishing yesterday some the characteristics you described in the three different rod brands used, all of which were 7' MH. As far as differences, not least of which was how each worked differently though labelled the same from the tips and throughout the blanks. Great information again Ben. I'm still learning, including how to cast without creating horrific backlashes, lol.

NOT BORING. Bro you are one of the the most knowledgeable anglers available as a video resource and I cannot put in words how valuable that is to novice anglers like myself. Not to mention that not many other people would actually take the time to explain something like this. Thanks again for the great information man, keep up the good work!

That explanation was 💯... Spot on! Can't explain the importance of having the proper rod enough. It's hard enough to get a bite some times, much worse when losing the few fish that do bite because of a poor hookset or rod.

Very informative video. I've gone to more parabolic rods over the last couple years, especially for punching & frogs. My favorite flipping rod is the Kistler Helium M.A.D. 7'11" HModF rod. I punch, throw deep cranks & swim baits with it. But for 1/4-3/8 oz, t-rig worms in deep water, making long casts, I use GLX 893 (7'5" MHXF). Enjoyed the vid.

I like this information. I know the feeling of losing frog fish repeatedly. Stay informative. Keep sharing your opinion because not everyone fishes the same way but we all have similar problems. One of the best explanations of rod action/power. Another MAJOR thing people ignore is the spine in a rod - a lot of rods you'll have a "jump point" where the blank will essentially click over. Had several rods from a certain company we reviewed and got told to pull down.

Very comprehensive explanation of the rods!!! I like how you went back in time and present day pointing out the discrepancies of the advertised performance in rods. The anecdotes were perrrrrfect coupled with analogies!!! Removed a LOT of ambiguity in regards to rods - which still exists today. Tooooo bad there is no industry standard on the power and action of rods for the manufacturers to adhere to. Best dang information I’ve ever seen or heard from anybody on explaining rods!!!!👍😃🍻🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣
