I’m so glad I found this video. I was considering for a little while to upgrade my childhood GameBoy Color to use an IPS screen, but I was worried about soldering. Your video made it seem so simple and a couple of weeks ago I modded my GameBoy Color with the black shell and OLED screen. So glad I did, even with the small bit of soldering. Brings new life to the old guy. Thanks! The only (very small) gripe I have for this mod is that the power led doesn’t sit centre to the new screen hole

This thing been out for a while I can't believe why people haven't gotten to modding the GBA with an AMOLED yet. It is so infuriating because I own 2 GBA SP that I can mod but the mods are just not interesting. However finding a Gameboy nowadays is harder.

Excited to grab one of these kits. I noticed the board you used in the video has a "CPU CGB" chip. This is the initial release SoC which has a very slightly different boot ROM - somewhat rare :)

This idea seemed like a no brainer, but perhaps it was difficult to implement an oled screen on a gameboy. I'm loving this! If an oled mod becomes available for the gba sp, I will buy it in a heartbeat!

Love your videos btw ! You’re my go to tutorial videos for all of my Gameboy mods ! Well for all retro mods at that point lol . Would this fit in the boxy pixel GBC color shell? I already have a Q5 GBC so the next best thing would be an aluminum shell with a amoled display. Thanks for all the great content !!

I have a question about the burn in Effekt. Modern TVs have a Software that privide the display from burn in but i guess that isnt the case here. So what is the live span of this display? Im planing to get a new moded game boy color but i dont know if i should go for oled or q5

Neat screen but this is from a Blackberry q10 screen from 2013. So the tech is over 10 years old not sure how it will hold up over time. Also rumor has it a oled gba screen is coming!

That's the most friendliest soldering requirement ever, they already have glob of solder where you need to solder, basically you just melt the glob and you're done.

Thanks for the video, used your link to get the kit and it works excellent. The only thing is, I can't get my GAMEBOY COLOR logo on the bottom to light up like yours. How do I do that?

Open the menu by touching and holding down the bottom of the screen and then you swipe through the menus and tap the arrows to change the color of the logo

I’m still waiting for a setting to adjust the colors. All of these modern screens are way way too oversaturated compared to the original Game Boy Color.

It's not that those screens are saturated, rather the original game or color screen is very desaturated

Games were heavily saturated so you could actually see the colors on the very poorly saturated game boy screen

Agree x1000, i love oled screens in general but this and so many of these modded screens look way off when you’re used to the og hardware, love the analogue pocket for this reason - it nails it 99%! Hoping someday that these types of mods can nail the gbc color palette

@@kevinabanto You are correct. The bad screen led to games being designed with oversaturated colors so that they'd look okayish on the desaturated screen. Nintendo Switch Online has a nice balance with their GBC games looking more in line with the originals even on a nice modern screen.

there sold out on AliExpress except for scalpers on the same site selling them for $480 Australian😢. I want one so bad hopefully they are more available later on and not scalped because everyone wants one. love your Chanel got me into modding now I nearly have ever console and to many dmg gbc gba/sp's to count l like to get them broken to fix then mod I find it more fun.

there both awesome to be honest I wish it didn't have the touchscreen and was more like the Q5 but the touchpads can be just as annoying too. but you can just switch it back without having to wipe your fingerprints off the screen.

Jake I have a question, I’m trying to install a hispeedido v2 and it was working fine I tested a few times and then I put it in had something to fix and take it back apart and the the screens just grey now whenever it’s on I have no clue what happened? And tips?

I would just try re-seating all the cables. Something may have partially come undone. If that doesn’t work, I recommend joining the discord server and make a post in the help section with some pictures

@@JakeSimmons I appreciate your fast response your the best dude! I think I must have messed something up it’s my first time so I was being very careful but I had to have pushed to hard or something. Not sure but it worked on the dry test and the first time after solder so who knows what I did when I went back to fix my shoulder button 😂 gotta get a new one🙃

NSO heavily mutes the colors to “match the look” of the original screen. This kit will look wayyyy better than NSO imo

@@JakeSimmons I got excited when they added Mario tennis to the GBC emulator but then I was disappointed in how dull it looks compared to a Q5 GBC. I also think it's pretty dumb that you have to play all the original Gameboy games with the green color filter

At this rate I'd prefer to keep mine with IPS mods just to avoid the screen burn since it's a console I plan to keep for a very long time. I had an AMOLED Samsung phone and had been using it for 5 years. Later from 4 years and ahead, I soon notice the shadow of the touch-keys on the screen. We're talking about a quality made screen from Samsung and not an aftermarket screen from Chinese privates. So assuming they would start to have some screen buns within a few years only.

It’s a screen from an old blackberry phone and those screens were produced by LG as far as I know. So a little older but still high quality. I do understand the concern but I also don’t think it’s anything to worry about. I doubt anyone would use their game boy as much as they use their phone. But in general, I don’t think you need to “upgrade” if you already have an ips mod

Ok, so I had an old GBC and wanted to upgrade the screen. Found this video, bought this screen and by the end of it all fucked everything up so bad that my GBA and the screen went to the garbage. Honestly, unless you know what you are doing don't even bother trying to learn to solder with this video. Also don't buy the screen hoping to put it into your original GBC shell. It doesn't fit.
