Watchdives are now my go to Chinese watch brand.Really well put together.Like that they are even puting 20-16mm bracelets on a watch this big. Thanks for another excellent professional review
@@redtill1 thank you, and thanks for watching. WD is really high on my list at the moment. With SM cranking out originals that I'm not o sure about, WD is listening to the crowd and putting out banger after banger.
@@johnhunterpPhD I'm not, not a fan...it's a little plain and I've got a similar watch on the way (ere is ascent) so it's not that appealing to me. Their other stuff is really nice but it's just new colors in the same case/dial so again, just meh
@@EscapeWheel You know, I understand where you're coming from. I appreciate when brands listen to enthusiasts but also they have to find and keep their own design language. Lots of people asked for more "symmetry", no crown guards, etc. Which made the SN0129 case evolve into a pseudo OP-like watch, like you said, a really plain one. Besides the dial which is not particularly well executed. The SN0129-2 three hander has presence and it became its own thing. The 0144... It's thinner I appreciate that. But it lost something in the process I guess.
I've ordered the black V2 yesterday. I didn't know you would make a review that fast with the link. Nice review as usual. Good job for Watchdives for listening to the feedback and improving.
This watch is so awesome it made me look at it for 3 weeks straight and wish I had the real thing…. I did it and got the lunar pilot all chrome no date for 350… it was worth it! Watch dives just makes you want the real thing or a real conversation starter with pride
Great review as always Steve! I received mine today and I really love it. If I had to highlight something that I like less it would be the square cut out of the pushers. I prefer it rounded and closer to the pusher as the real one. The bracelet is good, but not as good as San Martin or Cronos (I know that this is a cheaper watch). Watchdives has done a really good job. I hope we can have a new version with thinner bezel, rounded pushers cut out and other improvements 🙂
Damn. Another video? Nice… version 1 was already the best bang for buck Speedy Homage out there. This makes it almost a no brainer. That white dial is a future purchase for sure for me. Thanks!
I had my Rep Speedmaster from OMF Factory with handwinding Chrono costs me 500USD with the same quality as WD1861. I would go for WD1861 after watched this review, thank you mate!
Looking forward to V3 with the thinner bezel. Depending on how the rest of the product is, will be looking to make a purchase when it gets released. Have skipped on V1 and V2 so far
Bought V1 6 months ago and just fell in love. The dial configuration is more important than the thickness and now after wearing the thickness is not an issue . The PD version just didn’t get the dial right. Just received the V2 white version and it’s just incredible, I feel though that the thinner case makes the Watch look longer on my wrist and therefore I don’t think I would upgrade to the black version. Hoping now WatchDives bring out the Alaska Project version … this would be awesome.
On the real thing, the running seconds is obviously on the left subdial. As the VK63 is restricted to the running seconds on the middle subdial, then i think Watchdives should make the increments on the minute counter subdial less busy and only have markers at 5 minutes intervals. Then it would better resemble the real thing! If you glance quickly at a real Speedy the dial looks less cluttered and I think the left subdial is the problem!
Regardless to all improvements in V2, the V1 thicker case shape gives to this watch more in uniqueness rather to represent the true copy of the original Speedy as V2. After watching both V1 and V2 reviews, I will definitely go for V1 while is still available for sale, now with reduced price. 😊 Overall thickness is insignificant between both versions (V1=13.8 mm vs V2=13.1 mm)
Love the upgrades! Do you know if the clasp can be swapped out? I’ve seen other companies sell quick adjust clasps , and it would be great on something like this. Thanks for the review!
You'll need to find one compatable with springbars at 16mm which is tough to find ...I suggested to them to create one attaching with springbars so they could use them on their watches, the FKM CTS straps and for upgrades to older models.
Maybe it's me but I think that the square opening holes for the push buttons are not aestically correct, especially next to the actual Omega design. The V1 was better in that matter. I own both the Black and white V1 versions and they seamed to be correct in that way. I'll wait for the V3
@@atoz6552 yeah, something I noticed as well, but willing to overlook it since there are some other things not identical to the Gen speedy. We can't be too picky 🤣
Im sold! 😂 bought one already. the problem with the misalignment of chronograph hand if reset around 5 to 7 is still present. Ive tried it many times and it deviates from left to right if reset at those position below 5 and 7 😂
Would label this the perfect homage, IF the bezel was just slightly thinner. Do you happen to know if that will happen? To me, the Speedmaster's appeal is mostly in it's dial and proportions. I think this Watchdives is spot on (and I ordered the V2 for it), but the only wish I have is that the bezel would be slightly thinner - for example like on the Phylida. Anyway, small gripe for such a great watch :)
there is talk about slimming the bezel. not sure how they will do it...whether they take a mm or so off the I.D. of the bezel and increase the dial/crystal, or just take a mm off the O.D of the bezel and call it a day. I think the later is the more reasonable since it's just changing 2 parts vs changing 4 parts...enlarging the dial my throw off proportions as well. I believe V3 will have a slimmer bezel but a worse (read: same as pagani) crystal. and be priced more competetive to the PD. maybe we'll see a V4 with the nice crytsal, slimmer bezel, and the new logo. I for one can live with the slightly thicker bezel...it still looks great IMO
Great review! I dont know if my eyes is playing with me but I noticed that the cutout of the case in the side of the Pushers, is not that good compare to the V1. Produces lots of space..
I got mine today and it's awesome 😎 The look is perfect, it's exactly what i expected ! It is very close to the OG from a reasonable distance. The proportions are good even on my 17cm, it is the maximum size I can wear 👌 Overall I like it a lot ! But there's one thing I wanted to add : the edges of the bottom of the case, of the clasp, and all the edges of each small individual link making up the bracelet are pretty sharp 😅. I wasn't expecting a perfect finish for the price and I love this watch for what it is, but I must admit that I was hopping for a little better than that ^^
Steve, the other really exciting, unique Watchdives release (I hope) is the 16mm on-the-fly clasp that you and many if us have been asking for. I *think* its close!
I'm not laying out that kind of money for a 1mm thinner, lighter case. V1 is perfectly OK for me. There'll be V3 in a few months so I'm got getting into the upgrade game.
it's not crazy when you see their interactions with the community on Reddit. they are always there, talking to the people that buy the watches and taking their feedback to heart. we basically designed that dial for them. they had a pagani like dial at first and we said no...they scrapped the dials they had and started over and ended up with the best speedy dial around. that's the type of company WD is. listening to their customer base. I highly suggest you check out reddit r/chinesewatches and r/watchdives
Great review Steve! Wondering if the bracelet endlinks would fit an actual Speedie Professional. Any chance you have one and can try? (I have the OEM bracelet with the old single micro adjust hole - this could be a nice affordable option)
@@EscapeWheel That is my biggest issue with these quartz chronographs. I would give up the sweeping chrono hand for a snapping minute accumulator like on the Ronda 3540.D.
Thanks for the informative review. They went the wrong way widening the watch. This review could have been better with the latest version of PD for comparison.
So essentially Watchdives made a pagani copy and doubled the price of the pagani ? 😂. This V2 needed to be 20% cheaper based on existing materials. Nice watch but not sure what watchdives were thinking with the pricing…….
no...inform yourself before making allegations. the Pagani uses recycled parts...the same case, dial, and bracelet can be found on 3 different brands (PD, Megalith, and one other one I can't remember) the sheer production numbers alone drive the cost down. the WD case is bespoke to them and they are the only ones using it...same for the dial. custom made specifically for them. bracelet may be "off the shelf" but I am yet to find another speedy bracelet tapering to 16mm, so again, possibly bespoke to them. as well as the bezel insert is also custom for them (all this drives up the cost, and we are just talking production numbers and nothing else.). the watch is finished nicer, has a much more expensive (and nicer) crystal, better lume, and a nicer bracelet. the watch costs double because it's more limited in production numbers and it's just Nicer...we have to stop taking a watch for the sum of it's parts and look at the whole picture. this would be like comparing the Pagai Submariner to one of San martin's original designed watches
@@EscapeWheel Regardless of reusing cases, the pagani is still the better value proposition considering both pagani and watchdives are essentially copying a classic design. Bespoke or custom to watchdives has no bearing here. Stainless construction, SAPHIRE crystals, Seiko mecaquartz movements… ceramic bezel on the pagani and aluminium on the WD. It’s swings and roundabouts as they say…. Look, I like the WD offering, it’s nice.. my initial comment and contention is on the pricing for an Ali Express mecaquartz watch… it’s expensive in comparison to the PD and many other Seiko mecaquartz offerings on Ali that have almost identical specs. With the WD007 I can understand the pricing as it’s a more unique offering in terms of materials used and execution. We can agree to disagree on this one. ☮️
@@jayfra100 I was merely saying specs aren't everything. There's a reason a Christopher ward is $1200 while some random micro rand with the same movement is $600. The PD is incredible value indeed...no denying that. But the WD isn't just a copy/paste and a price hike like your original post insinuated
Picked up a MAMACOO's watch as my first watch last month and I’m absolutely in love with it. Perfect size, looks elegant, very comfortable. Now my only problem is holding off from buying more watches so quickly!
That is a good improvement over version 1 although I would still go for the PD. Pagani Design v3 would be even better had they not removed the 2 iconic dots at 12 o'clock for some crazy reason. Hopefully Watch Dives slim the cases of some of their other watches as many of them are too "blocky" (has not stopped me from buying 2 of them though 😍👍).
I actually prefer this thicker bezel as it gives more presence to the watch, it is more masculine and helps differentiate it. I also like the logo, I like that it doesn't take itself so seriously which happens a lot with many brands and that's corny. And it's going to be covered by the chrono's second hand the whole time in any case
Because they're called Homages and Probably the original patent designs have expired most of these designs are pushing 50/70+ Years now and the only way Rolex/Omega and other Luxury brands can do anything about it is if they slapped those companies logos and text on these watches?
I will humbly suggest that you direct this question to Omega makers. To some of us we just don't care. Having the Omega design with a price that is attainable is enough. After all, they are not trying to pass them off as Omega, and anyone who buys them knows they are not paying that money for an Omega watch.
I'm really hoping we see some more color options now that they have got the case right. there are soooo many speedy options out there (not sure they ever did navy blue though) that the possibilities are endless.
Will they ever make a mechanical chronograph Speedy homage again? Ive had my Alpha 93 Speedy for a good while and apart from the iffy clasp the watch itself is great, and so far the only homage I know of with a proper mechanical chronograph movement. Id happily more for an homage, even a '57 Speedy with no bottom register to avoid that dreaded useless 24-hr subdial that just eats up dial real estate. Now if they made these movements so that the 24-hr complication was an elapsed hour counter, even if only up to 6 hours with 30-minute half markers between the 6, be it mechanical or a high beat mecha-quartz, Id be all over that.
@@arisaga822 it's what I'm doing now...but $150 isn't going to make or break a $4K+ watch purchase...so why not enjoy this for the time being...test out the size, the style, make sure I really want to drop that kind of coin on the real deal.
@@FanOfMuftiMenk it's legal...the Speedmaster design is, what? 60-70 years old now? Any design payments have LOOONNG run out on those watches. Same goes for other icons like the submariner. Some brands have other protection..I know Breitling and Cartier are pretty strict and will go after homages for copying their designs.
I get why people would buy this, but for me; I'd rather buy an original Seiko over a Speedmaster knockoff. It will make me appreciate the real Omega Speedmaster when I can afford it.
@EscapeWheel I used Seiko as an example... what I meant was; I'd buy a cheaper brand that has its own look rather than a knock off. Most people wouldn't notice that it is not an Omega, but I would know ans that would bother me.
@user-ex6tu3ds7y everyone is so defensive! Lol... all I'm saying is I'd rather have the authentic watch. But until I can afford it, buy something less expensive that has its own look, not a knock off. Seiko was an example... plenty of other watch brands out there not imitating a Speedmaster.
@@simonchow6894, the guy just said he’d be ashamed of such a rip off copy on his wrist…. And I agree with him 100%…… What you are suggesting is that people buy original watches for the benefit of others, you are classless my friend, imagine if you had the real speed master, I’d bet you’d be showing it to everyone 😂😂
@@simonchow6894hey keyboard tuff guy how do you know he’s not important and you not he made it about that. It’s his preference not yours as is yours is yours, his is his and mine is mine. What a douche
I bought this popular video watch from amzwatch , which was originally priced at a few thousand dollars, but now it's only $380! It's really suitable to pick up feces!
I've recently began my obsession as a watch collector. And i must say- out of all the luxury brands I've been researching, for me the AMZWATCH's watches are the most intriguing.
