I just got this camera a while back and I honestly love it so much. It’s making shooting videos just a joy to use. My favorite features are 4k live crop, focus transition (which is nice due to the somewhat tricky focus by wire lenses) and the ex teleconverter!!!
I will be picking up a GH5 MK II in large part due to your review and the Business Insider article. My sister has been advocating for the LUMIX GH series for still photography for years and your content provided the impetus to finally pull the pin, given how capable this camera is for video. I’m sure these tips will come massively in handy. Thanks!
Picking up a GH5 MK II in large part due to your review and the Business Insider article. My sister has been advocating for the LUMIX GH line for years (for still photography) and your videos clinched the deal for me
Bought one recently after watching your recent video and others. Was initially reticent to get it since it’s a few years old but just shot my first corporate gig with it and got some super nice shots and slow mo. My top tip is setting up the custom menu with all your favourite features since this camera has so many and can be intimidating at first. Also, I like how each recording mode shows a preview of how much time you have left on your SD card. This let me see what the differences were between 10bit and 8bit color for example. One cool feature is ex tele converter to punch in on your lens without a drop in quality, however, I sometimes find the menu saying it’s not available which I can’t get my head around.
I keep coming across your videos more and more as I research the GH5 and I think you're doing a great job and really enjoy watching and learning. Thanks!
GH5 is life! Love this camera so much, makes creating content so straight forward. So glad I decided on this camera compared to the other options. My biggest tip is probably to use the C1/C2/C3 options to set your most common shooting modes, so you can access them super quick.
You’ve finally convinced me to buy the GH5! I currently use GoPro specifically while hiking because I probably won’t wreck em.😂 Keep up the good work! I’ve been coming over to your channel for a couple years. It’s awesome how much you’ve grown since!
i'm so lost but i love it lol, i just got the gh5 and it is madness, i havent set it up still looking through all the gimmick, thank you for your video
Hey man, good video so far. I wanted to mention to you regarding I.S. Lock. I think your lock/stabilization may have become disabled during your demonstration. Your lock is not as steady as it should be. I have tested this and after doing some reading, the GH5 will disable stabilization if too much movement is done when stabilization is enabled. I have found out that if I set a function button to turn on and off stabilization in conjunction to setting a function button for I.S. Lock, when my camera is turned on and I find my composition and start recording, I then turn on stabilization and then I turn on I.S. Lock, it works to perfection. This is a software coding issue that I think Panasonic needs to address so the stabilization is not disabled after too much movement and when it is disabled, you will have no indication of this. All you can do is power cycle the camera to start again.
As a GH5 owner and user, I really just watched this to share in your enthusiasm for the GH5. That being said, I really need to get that audio adapter.... Crap, now I have to buy something else. 😂
Wow, I didn't realize getting focus in manual focus was so easy on this camera. I understand how hard it is to focus yourself when you are a one man show. But the tips you showed makes this camera look like a great choice again. I've used the app with my G7 and can agree that it's is one of the best camera apps, hands down. Great video Sir and thank you again for another awesome video.
The focus peaking is awesome. I wish all cameras had it. For years I was so scared of manual focus because I wasn't sure if I could trust what my eye was seeing. Focus peaking takes all the guesswork out. I really like the zebra stripes for exposure as well.
Hello E Dad! You sold me on the GH5. My questions 1. How much longer do you think it will be a relevant youtuber camera? Especially with newer cameras and 8k being the next step? 2. Ive seen the price go down a lot during last 2 years. They seem to drop in steps (probably because of newer lines getting released). Is it good time to buy now? Or is it good to wait a little for the next price drop?
Panasonic Canada had a Christmas sale of $1,000 off. Picked one up at Henry's Camera in Toronto for $1,699 + tax. Happy to switch back to GH series. I will use the a7iii for low light situations. Thanks Panasonic. BTW my first camera was an Omnivision Panasonic VHS back in the late 80's in Kingston, Jamaica.
Tip from me: Use the "Miniature"- effect in photo-mode but record video. Similar to your 4K livecropping the camera do the postproduction for you. A timelapse with the miniature effect, i love it!
LIKE No 500, G’day Gary, I got my GH5 two days ago and LOVE IT! 📸👌🏻 Thanks for the cool tips, I am using the new “RODE VideoMic NTG” to record the Video and when I have learnt how to drive this beast of a camera I’ll produce a video or two Because if You can figure it out then I can figure it out. ✌🏻
Gh5 owner arrive... My favorite hack for gh5, that 4k kive crop for zooming that alone is the feature i use for establish shot.. ups what is slider btw.. ;)
Gidday Gary, I'm an everyday Grand Dad from down under in Brisbane Australia and I'm a recent subscriber and a fan of your channel. Just a simple question which I hope has a simple answer, If I'm shooting a row of cars, like a drive by sequence, from the back of a golf buggy, do I set the metering mode from spot to multi metering or not? I mean what I want is everything in the shot to be in focus as much as possible. Look forward to any feedback Cheers Mate John
The GH5 is a capable with a deep tool set. I have 2 because I shoot a lot of events and I don't have to match the cameras. I knew about the live crop but I never used it. I think I will give it a go. Recently I've been shooting the 6k open gate under the anamorphic settings. It is great, 10 bit 200 mbs and very easy to edit on my computer.
nice to see you enthusiastic, it truly is an amazing camera... but panasonic, would it be possible to have the high resolution mode in a firmware update?
Gary, great vid. You always teach me one or two things with each video. I have a question about the touch focus. When in MF mode, when I touch the screen, the screen gets a grey frame around the edge and I can't move the focus point into that grey area. This happens in movie mode as well as A mode. Any idea why or what setting I have wrong. This does not occur when in AFC. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
I LOVE...My Lumix G7 and I'll be getting the G85, because WHY NOT...and i can use the SAME LEN'S WITH my G7. I DO have a Question, I have the Kit Len's 14-42mm what's the One Lens that allows me to Do the same thing As the 14-42mm? can a 50mm be equivalent?
@@TheEverydayDad I already own an A6400, have for months (thanks to your reviews mostly) ... am completely satisfied with it ... knowing how much you love the GH5 though, and how much I value your opinion ... I thought it was good food for thought. Merry Christmas!
I have an a6600 and G9. I agree. Sony slays everything in the autofocus department. Lowlight will also be a little better. Mft vs APS-C sensor. If I really had to have 1 it would probably be the G9. Way better IS, better glass, better grip, other than the occasional hunting the video is excellent.
I also love my gh5 i often think about „upgrading“ to apsc or ff but the apsc lack of a pro body and feel like toys in the hand or apsc/ ff lack the features gh5 has. There is no other cam that gives me the same i get with gh5
Thanks .. what color settings do you use for your in-studio videos when you are the subject. My G7 tends to have an orangish cast in the skin tones. Thanks!
Is that the Atomos Ninja V Recorder/Monitor? It records ProRes 4K uncompressed its a beast, should have mentioned it. Since it's in almost in ever shot... A little weird...I use it with the GH5 I never use the GH5 internal recording. Now I have a perfect camera.
Just bought 2 for multi cam shooting but just noticing that the battery is poor I can't find a Panasonic original coupler.. any ideas where I can find this?
Quick question this has been the camera I’ve been wanting for about a year but I want to know if you think the gh5 camera will do well in a night club for promotion videos?
awesome video. i have a g7 and i like it but the unfortunate thing is that i can't use an external monitor along with it. i wanted to ask you can i use an external monitor with the g85 or do i have to upgrade to the gh series to use an external monitor? thx great vid, def saving up for either this or the gh5s
Instead of spending $380 on the XLR adapter which still doesn't give you a mic, why not buy a Røde Videomic Pro+ for roughly the same price which gives you outstanding audio and freedom of movement with less weight and space.
Some great tips and like you I love my GH5 and it just keeps getting better. I love the support Panasonic are giving it and the G9. I also love the Sigma 1.4 16mm lens that you recommended its my go to lens now. Never really played with the 4K live cropping but will be more after watching your video :)
