What a cool amp and great mods. Seeing that VHT amp reminds me I played one and had no idea they were so new back in 1990 in Indianapolis . A friend had it and let me borrow it with a two by 12 or two 2 x 12 speakers which I think were also VHTs. I just remember loving that head. I was playing another guys 1950 LP God top with a trapeze tail piece and two p90s. It was cool . ❤ Great video man. Thanks.. Tim..
The way you described that modded Marshall is the same way Edward Van Halen felt about his 1968 plexi Sl12301 head. He said there was something about it that none of his other amps had. Funny thing is it used to be the house amp at the rose palace so many players had played through it over the years before he scored it.
Man. That thing sounds incredible. Great playing! I feel similarly about my JEL100, I just can sort of get what I need out of it. That new Plex is making me think about trying to sell some stuff, but I will probably wait until the AC30 comes out to see what Friedman does with that circuit, although I think Dave said he revised the JJ100 clean to be an AC circuit at some point.... I need to get a second job to just buy all the amps lol.
One of my favorite songs to test a cool Jcm 800ish tone is the intro to out to get me from Appetite. It’s that open G growl that make you want to push your grandma down the stairs.
Why Jerry Cantrell? Dude looks nothing like him, or were you just referring to the amp being a modded Marshall? Jerry's amp on the first 2 AIC records was a Bogner modded JCM800 with his snorkler mod, and that amp is just absolutely unreal in every way, sooooo heavy and saturated yet articulate. Even Jerry knows how damn awesome it is and has tried to buy it multiple times first from the studio and recently from the ex studio exec and he said NOPE lol!!! That guy knows what's he's got for sure!
Looks like my old jcm800 non master volume. Very complicated mods, I prefer set and forget amps live, but this would be a killer amp to find that setting in it, especially for recording. Sounds massive.
I don’t right now. For modelers I moved to the AxeFX but I am considering getting a Kemper again or a Tonex or something to do some captures. I wasn’t sure if there was any interest but I guess there is! 😅
@@eldoradoguitars6456 Kemper developed the liquid profiling feature where you can tweak your profiles amp in Kemper and use equalizer and gain knows almost as in the real thing. After that the interest peaked again (1-2 yrs ago). It is wild that the 12 yrs old hardware is still holding on against modern competitors. And the sounds on Kemper are top notch. If you manage to capture quality profiles of the modded marshall, you’ve got one customer on the line👍
Hey man I have a question I think maybe you could help me with. Loved your video of the Friedman JEL and Adam Jones tones. I’m looking at the new Friedman PLEX to hopefully get my Jones tones to pair with my VH2. I have no way of going out and trying one, I just have to purchase and see. You have any thoughts on the new PLEX and if you think it’ll do fine for playing Tool? Thank you for your time and knowledge.
Hey man! I think the Plex is awesome. Only reason I didn’t grab one is because I have my ‘70 Super Lead. It would definitely be good to match with your VH2. Just remember that the old Blueface spec VH4s are darker with more mids and less gain so don’t overdo the treble and presence on your VH2. Let the Plex fill that part out. In other words, use the Diezel for the grunt and power and use the Plex for bite and cut.
I found a Kerry King 100w Marshall head that was modded. I don't know what they did, but it was just so good. I had to sell it to pay for a lawyer (bunch of ball washing bastards, name the movie) and I told the guy who bought it that once I got right, I would buy it back from him. He agreed and when the time came a year later, he refused to sell it back to me! He was the same as you! Sorry dude, I can't do it. But, if I do ever sell it, I will let you have first dibs on it. That was 7 years ago.
I have a Friedman BE 100 Deluxe. I like to run my JCM800 in Stereo with the Friedman. I run cab with V30 and Cream backs and the other cab with V30 and Green Backs.
Okay, let's talk turkey. I want that guitar and you can keep all the amps. That has to be the coolest looking Gibby I've seen in my entire life and I'm as old as dirt. SO do we have a deal? You keep all the amps and I'll take the guitar. LOLOL Seriously though, I know what you mean. I have a ton of amps that I've bought over the last 45 years. There's not a single one I don't like a lot. That said, just one is my favorite because it makes me sound like me the best. It's a high powered twin from the 60's that I bought in EDIT >>>>>1970
The best amp I’ve ever played is a 68 Princeton, the best big amp I’ve ever played is a Dual Rectifier. I prefer Strats, so I like a compressor sustainer. I personally like a Boss CS-3 and a JHS Pulp N Peel. You have a great sounding amp there. That Man In The Box stuff sounded awesome. 👍🏻👍🏻
@@zandig666 tell me about it. I have the V3 version of the JHS Pulp N Peel. I also had a Luthier in St Louis Missouri make me an amazing set of pickups for my Strat. It’s the best guitar that I’ve ever played. It’s a 2008 American Standard Strat. My only complaint was the pickups being a bit anemic, the new pickups helped so much, but I always like what a compressor does for single coil guitars. I got a lot better at dialing in my sound, when I figured out, that guitars are best to mostly have a good mid range. It really cuts through whatever else is going on. This guy’s Friedman modded Marshall has nothing “bassy” and “flubby” going on. An amp like that makes you sound like a better player.
