This is quality content, you're so right about the way S-gear responds and feels like a real amp. When my band broke up I stopped playing because I needed that cranked Marshall experience, now I'm playing guitar again. All the best, great playing BTW.
I have no doubt that this amp suite is amazing, but my goodness, the way you play the instrument is so satisfying to listen to. It is like getting new music of interest to listen to every time I click on a Studio Rats video.
I have watched plenty of reviews of players doign just metal riffs, producing a muddy wall of sound. I love your sound and playing - gives you much more of an idea, what the gear sounds like. Keep up the good work!
exactly, and just about every sim out there offering fender marshall Vox Soldano sounds identical, Kuassa, STL tones, this plug is ok but lacks that marshall metal
Note that this is the Mac version as told by the way the amp is above the panel where you select the presets. On the win10 version, it's the other way around. For those curious, this sim sounds great as a stand-alone app thru studio monitors using a power amp and guitar interface. Better than any other stand alone amp sim and every bit = to axe fx. Great video and playing.
I CANNOT believe the small price of this!? Admittedly the UI isn’t as ‘sexy’ as the neural dsp stuff but it sounds insane! I’m buying it tonight based on your review
The Wayfarer is actually Twin/Deluxe on the clean settings BUT when you switch on Lead I or Lead II, it's more like a Mesa Boogie and Lead II is even higher gain than the Jackal/Soldano. The Wayfayer is the most versatile amp in S-Gear. And I agree with you, S-Gear is by far the most natural feeling amp sim. It really is in a league of its own.
I bet. I had immediately noticed the three volume controls available, and that’s reminding me of my Fender SuperSonic 60 combo, my favorite amp if all! I think that this video, along with a few others I’ve seen, has convinced me to give the Scuffham a try. Thanks for the great demo, clear explanations, AND your always great playing!
I'll never understand why this isn't more popular. I feel like I've tried them all and this destroys all others. It may not have all the bells and whistles that some other have, but what good are bells and whistles if the core sounds don't sound great. This is the one.
I've had 2.7 for 5/6 years, no updates or features in that time, despite numerous requests on the fan-boy ridden forum. Then scruffham started deleting peoples comments and locking threads. Then 3 came out last year he wanted more money. He's a bit of a bo**ox - maybe that's why!
@@brianmac8260 oh ok. Well I’ve never had to deal with him personally, not have I gone on any forum. I just know that it’s - in my opinion- the one guitar sim that always sounds great, updates or no updates.
@@jeromejamies3641 well to each their own I guess. But I’ve never gotten much use out of Guitar Rig, Helix (Native), or any of the other big amp sims. I occasionally use BIAS, as well Neural Cory Wong, but Scuffham is the only one that doesn’t require a lot of post processing to sounds full, thick, and useable. Again, just my opinion.
My friend bought the S-Gear almost on a whim without knowing exactly what it is, he also has a Fractal FM3 so obviously he played his fractal all the time and almost never play his S-gear Long story short i went to his flat and jam together, because i want to try his FM3 so he used the S-gear to both of us surprise the S-gear sounds freakishly good, he surprised even more since that was the first time he actually played his S-gear, i even dare to say for the Plexi crunch or Friedman-ish high gain type of sound i think the S-gear is a tad better right now i'm saving money to buy S-gear, hopefully i can afford it this year :D
Just downloaded this software because of this video… Loved the intro solo and sweet singing tone. I was able to get it to play through Protools, but not just through the app. Which is fine.. As long as I can play and record..
I like it Paul !A friend of mine from the past demoed and helped them develop it -Jerry Stevenson He brought it over once and i was very impressed.I already had a good sound sorted but i remember thinking it if it only was available in a pedal!!Nice video and good playing as usual!!
I use S Gear since its introduction. I sold all my hardware modeler since that time. It is really that good!! Very good video. All what you need to know about S Gear. Great playing too.
@@carlosclaptrix Yes. :-) Unfortunately only home use for me but still the best modeler out there. Now I use it with a Morningstar MC8 . A great way to control the parameters.
I gave S-Gear a whirl last night before even seeing this video and I was honestly blown away from how my guitar sounded. You get a lot of bang for your buck with this plugin without clobbering you with a million affects/amp choices. Before this, I tried both Amplitube 5 and bias FX 2. I was never impressed with their presets and their microtransaction model really rubbed me the wrong way. Many of the presets in Bias and Amplitube also sounded like they were played beneath a pillow. I want to have a preset sound great without a lot of futzing around. Neural DSP is great but their individual plugins are very tailored for a certain sound. With this I feel like I have just the right amount of amp/effects selection and the presets sound full and authentic.
I got Scuffham and truly love it. I use it in combination with the synthesizer software MidiGuitar2 in a vst rack program and an 8x8 midi controller. So I've got 48 presets, one row for master volume and several on-off switches for tap delay, additional overdrive or a flanger. I will test it live when these little creatures are dried out (I'm speaking of Covid-19).
Gracias.
The Scuffham S-GEAR (for me) is the best Sim Plug-in. I have testet a lot of them, but S-Gear sounds the most amp-like to me and is extremely responsive
I've forgotten how much I liked this plugin. Bought a few Neural plugins recently , but could have saved my money by revisiting this one.. Nice touch btw.
starting to wonder why the hell i bought all these pedals, and amps.. i usually push away this idea of Computer Simulated Amp.. but wow !! this is epic stuff. I wonder if there are any cons to using this ?
Very cool. I’m still partial to the Fender Mustang GTX100 as my favorite sim option, and it also interfaces with my PC/Mac when I want to record something. But that’s obviously not available as a stand alone computer app. You have to buy the amp. So it’s pretty great to have this as a option for people who just want the PC interface. Thanks!
How do you get a tone that's creamy distorted, crunchy with bite but doesn't have any mud that gets in the way of the articulation and clarity of the chord??? I wrote this heavy kind of song and recorded a demo to drums with nylon string guitar but literally CAN NOT find the right electric guitar tone ANYWHERE.
I used the custom 57 and thought it sounded unbeatable, until I compared it with the same amp on my hx stomp. Both with the hx stomp as audio interface. Of course it is not a fair comparision because i use compressors (before and after amp), and drive pedals on the stomp, but it sounded a lot better than the scuffham custom 57. I’d be curious to try scuffham with the same effects for a fair comparision.
nice sim and video. It sounds like they did a much better job on the modded Marshall than they did on the SLO style amp. How does this amp sim compare to the Neural DSP ones. I am interested in the modded Marshall style tone...Thanks in advance for your time
HI Paul, I got the S-Gear plug in and it sounds really good. I was wondering if you still feel this amp sim is the best or do you have any new favorites since you made this video? Thanks for your good work, I also appreciate the variety of styles you play. ( instead of just endless metal chugging )
Hi Paul, thank you for this demo. I actually purchased this plugin after watching this video. I'd really like to know which model PRS you're playing here? Thanks!
Paul, I have been playing guitar for quite a few years and I couldn't even play the 1st chord in your Heaven preset let alone the next 4 or 5. How do you stretch that first finger back that far and get a clean sound on the D string? These chords sound so nice on this preset and you make it look effortless to play them. Any secrets to playing them? Great Demo ...I ended up buying S-Gear.
What do you think about using a tube pre amp before enter into the audio interface? I am trying this solution because I was curious about the result. I have a Scarlett 2i4 1st generation and I can't wait to upgrade my setup and change it. I love your channel and you are doing a great job, the S-Gear sounds amazing, the only thing I would like to improve is the fact that you can load only one third part IR, I have a good collection from York Audio and I am not able to blend them.
Great channel, many thanks, Paul...just found you and you've been a big help in recording my first full song in Luna. Quick question, if I may....your Scuffham review is impressive, thus, on a tight budget, would you say that it's a better option shelling out for this rather than the various UAD amp plug ins? Best, Steve
Hi Steve thanks! The Scuffham amp sim covers all you need guitar tone wise but if you are using LUNA, you mind find the integration of their own plugins better due to the way LUNA handles monitoring through 3rd party plugins. It’s worth trying the demos of both.
How would you rate Nerual amp plugins, logic plugins as compared to Scuffham ? And is UAD really better than these? I have floor model of the Fractal AX8 and not completely happy with it. It could be the pickup on my guitar possible but don't have a way of comparing. Would appreciate any advice as I now have logic to do recording. I like the reduced choice.
This is fantastic! So as a new kid on the amp modelling block: is it possible to have all the presets and amps and irs in a pedal ( with xlrs ) for using it in a live situation? Even better sending it to FOH? It would be such a shame having this only for recording at home.... i am thinking a hx stomp format with the scuffham software on it :)
@@TheStudioRats great news! I am trying the Sgear plug-in now and it is fantastic! I hope that the hardware enclosure will be there before I walk on a stage again after the corona...
Certainly the best amp sim I've used - I just need a PRS now... and a lot more practise! The forum is great too and Mike, the developer is very active on there and answers queries very quickly. I took the plunge and bought it after watching this video - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-2XjoyeptLA8.html
focusrite scarlett I use the mackie big knob pro studio, that one has everything you will need like multiple outputs and a lot of options. american musical supply does payments. this is not my prof, I am at work, lol.
I run a focusrite 3rd gen and it is very nice. very low latency.. all for a $100 ....just make sure to watch your input volume or your signal will not sound right with these plugins. mine is set at ZERO or just a tad over.
@@TheStudioRats Ok, I have now upgraded to Windows 10 and downloaded S_Gear, lovely! It is indeed very responsive and I have to say great value for it's price tag, I shall be purchasing. Many Thanks. Your playing is very good and deffo helped sell it for me!
I am new to this stuff. I would love to use something like this. Do you use monitors to hear the amp? I live in an apartment and for the most part use my Katana and the headphone jack. The amp sounds 100% different with and without headphones so it's not ideal
@@danielferrera8773 much better through the speaker. It's an incredible sounding amp. I have to spend a lot of time dialing in the tone if I go through headphones, and I still feel like it's lacking a bit
What is your signal chain from guitar to amp sim? I use the focusrite Scarlett and find that I have a ton of preamp/converter noise when I use sgear. Trying to see if a new interface may make a difference.
@@TheStudioRats I love this reply because I had no idea what an Apollo is, a few mins googling and I realised why Paul has no problems of that sort 😂 That said I’m having no problem going through a fender gt200 as my interface, sounds great and no issues as far as I can tell on a quick 2 hour taster 🤷♂️
Hi Ephreim. Yeah that would have been good, unfortunately I don’t agree with Positive Grids business ethics so I’m going to have to give that one a miss I’m afraid.
anyone want to buy my THU overloud amp simulator ! - it is nowhere near as as good as the Scuffham and is probably twice as expensive ! i have been using my Scuffham for quite a few years now and they have updated regularly and they don't even charge and lots of free presets :) ....cool people
I'll never understand, why this is popular. Sounds much too digital, in fact only the Wafarer sounds usable to me, the other amps have little similarity with the real amps, they pretend to simulate. A real Plexi, which sounds as bad as the Stealer, needs to be repaired, not even the Tweed amp sounds convincing to me. Much less the Dumble and SLO. Also high-gain amps are missing completely! And a lot of essential effects, maybe even more a spring reverb and tape echo. Was a nice plugin ten or fifteen years ago, but since then nothing really has improved, while some competitors relase at least two or three top notch amp plugins within a single year in much better state-of-the-art quality, while Scuffham still "polishes" some meanwhile outdated, much too digitally sounding old amp simulations, whithout updating them to 2022 level. Nothing or me, sorry!
Agh, I don’t like it... The only one that sounded good was the Rolland Chorus one... probs because it’s solid state. It’s my opinion; great demo though, great playing too. Cool, channel... glad I found it. Cheers!
