I think you meant the long head of the bicep fem extends the hip. The short head only acts on the knee join since it originates at linea aspera of the femoral bone (mid thigh bone region) then inserts onto the fibular head. It does not cross the hip joint so it does not act on it.

I just found your channel and it is amazing! If hamstrings grow better when hip is flexed, wouldn’t it be better to do seated leg curls with bending at the hip to the front, to feel that stretch in the hamstrings? Thank you!

I think I noticed today that my knee flexion is greater when my hip isn't flexed (for example, when standing on one foot and pulling the heel of my other foot back toward my butt) than when my hip *is* flexed, such as when lying down and pulling my heel along the ground toward my butt. Is this a phenomenon? Are the hamstrings the likely reason? Always enjoy learning from you and your colleagues, Sam.
@isihernandez9752

Hi, a physiotherapist here. What you say is not very normal since, when your hip is flexed, your rectus femoris (a biarticular part of the quadriceps) is in a passive shortening (assuming you're talking of a passive hip flexion), so it should allow a wider knee flexion (for the other 3 heads of the quadriceps, hip position is irrelevant), while in a neutral or extended hip position, the rectus femoris is more elongated/stretched, so there is more tension that goes against the knee flexion. On the other hand, a flexed hip provides more tension to your hamstrings (all of them biarticular muscles except the biceps femoris' short head), so it could even facilitate the knee flexion. So, the first question I would ask you is: are you really sure that you have greater flexion with your hip neutral/extended compared to your hip flexed? Have someone measure that, making a passive motion (you being absolutely relaxed and other person taking your leg and flexing your knee in both positions), to avoid any possible muscle activation interferences? If so, it's definitely something weird, since the things that could limit your your knee could be: a/ a joint issue (that would act the same independently of your hip position), b/ antagonist muscles (quadriceps in this case) activation/contraction/shortening/spasm/contracture/retraction, that in the case of the rectus femoris would be more accentuated with your hip in neutral or extended position than in flexed position, while would be the same for the other 3 quad heads in any position.

Glute Ham machine is the most effective and functional way to improve your hamstrings - the carry over to squat and deadlift is immense. It has to done properly with knees high up on the pad - its not a back extension!

When the butt shoots up during lying ham curls, isn't this just the body trying to get closer to the superior hips flexed seated leg curl position? Confused here...
@CitizenAthletics
@CitizenAthletics 3 года назад
Thats knee flexion with hip flexion, which is the non-desirable combined motion. It does that to reduce the motion the hamstrings have to go through.
@Mangobed717
@Mangobed717 3 года назад
@@CitizenAthletics From 5:45 to around 7:00 you demonstrate nothing but hip flexed, knee flexion exercises. Are you saying the hip flexion is passive in these and in the lying curl (when the butt shoots up) it is active, which makes it a no-no? Just trying to learn here...

Turn to Jesus people he died for your sins, Repent of what the New Testament describes as sin. Believe the gospel obey the teachings of Jesus documented in Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. Jesus is the only way to be saved, be baptized if you have faith in Jesus then you will live life with him as your example. If you need prayer i'll pray for you. @@RjTheTrigun what proven historical or scientific evidence can you provide to support the claim you just made? You literally can't define a cult based on the message your replying to. And it will also be literally a a racist claim that you just made. You're referring to Christianity is being cult. When literally it's a part of Jewish culture African culture Middle Eastern culture Indian culture and so long. Every single primary people groups culture is literally founded and build on the foundation of Christianity and one way or another. Yeah and I'm talkin about 1st Century here too way before slavery.

@@weknowhisvoice9296 1. Ambrahamic god is part of the newest religions the monotheistic 2. Polytheistic religions existed long before 3. The Roman empire was polytheistic before emperor Constantine converted to Christianity. Emperor Nero is long quote as blaming an upcoming cult named christians for the burning of Rome. He had them crucified a mile apart for miles. 4. If your immediate ancestors are from central, south, north Americas, Asia or Africa, Christianity came to them at the edge of a weapon via colonialism. This is out human history The burden of proof isn't on those who didn't make an extraordinary claim, the burden of proof is on you. The practice of faith is believing without evidence. So even searching for one is failing said enterprise. Please check each and every single one of my stated points through thorough research at your local library or historian worth their degree.
@weknowhisvoice9296
@weknowhisvoice9296 3 года назад
@@RjTheTrigun actually you need to provide evidence for every single claim you just made. The difference between me and you is I actually do study this. The very first one God worship is the God of the Hebrews. What do you say if not? Provide evidence of a people group worship one God before Abraham. It is The same exact God and Christianity all Judaism is premature Christianity. But you have worship before that the worship of false gods. The scriptures record that the very oldest sign of God worship is the people of Babel. and the people of Babel are recorded in the scriptures and that's actually supported with proven history. The scriptures if you actually studied them already claimed that there was false god worship early on. Abraham's parents worshiped false gods. I don't know if you were trying to verify the scriptures you might not realize it but that's exactly what you're doing with your statement. But none of those false belief systems claim that in the beginning God created which out date all things. See where you got it really mixed up as you say the abrahamic religions. a Covenant started with Abraham, But the creation started with Adam. you have biblical figures like Enoch, Job, Noah all dealing with God way before Abraham was born. So as you see your first few statements are completely demolished. And you mentioning Nero has nothing to do with the context of this conversation. But I'm going to show you how bringing up Nero actually goes even further against you. Nero didn't just crucified Christians, from children to the old people. he would like them on fire alive what their bodies coated in wax to bring light to the city at night. From little kids the old women she will put them in arenas with animals and make an event of watching a Christian be eaten alive while running for their lives. So how does this verify the scriptures? Well it is a fulfillment the Jesus said you'll be persecuted for the faith Christians are the most persecuted people group in history even today. But in Nero's case you have people who saw the Risen Christ. To claim that Christ is God is the highest level of blasphemy in Jewish culture. And all these Jews from different places all agree that Jesus rose from the dead and he's God In the Flesh. And they were willing to die horrible deaths or it. When all they have to do is deny Jesus in front of men. They could have just continuing on waiting for the Messiah the Jesus wasn't him. But they didn't they knew that Jesus rose from the dead they seen the resurrected Christ. So you bringing up Nero supports my position I don't know if you were trying to do that or not. So when it comes to the culture of different people groups. Many people groups were already Jews Moses wife was a kushite which is a African. The very first Christian to hear the gospel and get baptized document it was the Ethiopian eunuch. That's in the scriptures, simple history shows the disciples spreading Christianity to India Asia and so on. Based on your reply I honestly believe you never looked into this and you don't know what you're talkin about. Some of our oldest manuscripts are written and three ancient African languages. The oldest Christian denomination is from the continent of Africa are you serious? You brought up historians right well guess what I know African history better than your library books so check this out In the West Africa nation Mali there were Christians there at least one century before Europeans came to Africa. At this time Mali was ruled by a rich muslim king named Mansa Mesa. In the book corpus of early aribic sources for West African history. On pages 250 and 251 we have a translation of a primary source describing a trip that Manse Mesa took to Egypt. This record is believed to have been from the early 1300s, Al Darwidari documents a man he describes as an inspector of an army. Named Al din talking about a conversation he had with Mansa Mesa, Al-din says ‘’ I asked the king of Takur how is the place where gold grows with you? Mansa replied its not our land which belongs to muslims but its the land of the Christians of Takur. And West Africa I don't believe that Muslims enslaving Muslims was a heavy practice. The slaves who were sold to the Europeans from the African queens and kings we're already Christians at least the majority. Why would a Muslim care about a slave Bible? Why would I which doctor of false deity worshiper care about a slave Bible? They wouldn't only a Christian Would you have songs like go down Moses that the slaves historically sang but guess what in the slave Bible that book of Exodus was removed. Literally I'm just barely even scratching the surface. I can really get deeper into the history of African culture based on Christianity. But that's not necessary so check this out South America was exposed to Christianity before Europeans. I don't know really nothing about North America. But Latins were Asians were Indians love the fact that their history dates back to Saint Thomas spreading the gospel in the first century to their country. White people Asians latins black people Arab people all like I said before had first century Christians. Many of these people we're Jews and Judaism is just premature pre Christ Christianity. So literally accept it or not every plan you made is destroyed. And if you want me to copy paste sources for everything I just made I could easily do that but I'm pretty sure you know what I'm saying is true.
