The Trekology ALUFT 2.0 pillow is really comfortable too. It's the best inflatable pillow I've tried and under $20. They also have a decent set of trekking poles for about $41 I've been using.
Eric, thanks for advocating for Grip6 socks. They are my favorite by far! I've been using them for at least a year now and never had an issue. AND, they have a life time warranty! You may want to consider their belts for hiking as well. I use the Grip6 belts for everyday use, but also for hiking. They are infinity adjustable and are thin enough to wear under pack hip belts without discomfort. Great video!
I've used the Arcade belt for several years - it stays on my hiking trousers and goes through the wash with it. Another benefit - you can go through airport scanners - no metal!
Eric I just got the Nemo dagger osmo tent from your previous vid and a Nemo disco 15 sleeping bag… I’m slowly getting ready to go backpack my first time next summer
Another thumbs up for Arcade belts. I have two, and use them daily unless I need a dressier leather belt. Use them on my motorcycle jeans too, the stretch makes it more comfortable.
My go to cup is a cheap Starbucks plastic cup with a lid. I don’t eat a traditional breakfast and this allows me to hike and walk in the morning darkness without spilling my coffee. I also use it in my tent at night for my nightly tea.
Great video as always man! To the comment readers out there, ( i am your everyday average kook in the backpacking department, not a pro, but not a noob either. I also do not "crush miles, like Darwin or my man Eric, 5 miles is far to me, anyway) The ARCADE BELT, is a pain in the belt to adjust. (Sorry Cody Townsend 🙃🙃love you brother, can't wait for the up coming 50 Project season. ) I've used the ARCADE belt as my primary belt on my ski pants and tried it on few snow back packing trips, pulling sleds and doing backcountry stuff. My complaint is that, if you need to adjust it, meaning let it out or in a little (even though it is stretchy) it is very very hard to adjust, the buckle bracket for the belt is very tight. I found that I had to start bringing a chop stick in my gear bag... (I like Chinese food so I got that stuff)... to stick in the belt loop to help start to loosen it. More R and D on the adjustment needs to be tackled. My Columbia, adjustable belt works way better even though its not stretchy and when camping it holsters my bush crafty knife and other "bat utility belt stuff", . Second, Socks. I'd go with what fits your personal feet, Cotton does stuck but I think, skinny or thick depends on your own footsie's and footwear. If your trying new socks on a hike, be sure to bring, "foot care" (mole skin, tape, blister busters,) in your +bag and know how to use it. hopefully you don't have to but as least you have it. great video, sorry this comment is long. Hope your well and have a great day.
Another cheap headlamp is Black Diamond Spot Lite 160, which has very similar specifications. Is lightweight 54gr or 1,9 oz (I think without the batteries) and cheaper, at least in Europe. But one downside is hat runs with 2 AAA batteries, so you can't charge it when you need it. Haven't tried yet in a long distance hiking, so I can't say much about the duration of the battery...
I would include the trekology ul80 ultralight sleeping pad. It is amazing in my opinion, especially for $40. The only downside to me is the weight. It's twice the weight as my usual pad but it's twice the comfort. 👍. Thanks for the content. Cheers
As an FYI on the arcade belt, if you carry anything heavy on your waistband it is way too stretchy and unable to support the weight. They’ve since made a sturdier version which hopefully solves this but I haven’t tried yet. Thanks for the video!
Pff, soap... Staying clean in the back country; how bougie. JK I have that same pillow; it always deflates on me. I can't figure out why? I've completely submerged it in water looking for bubbles and saw none. The only thing I can figure is with the weight of my head (containing my enormous brain) air slowly escapes through the valve. IDK I'm looking for an alternative.
Its not as blinding for sure, both for yourself and others. Helps maintain your night vision for stargazing too! Also, it wont attract bugs as much as a regular white light.
I personally am NOT tired, or broke, on buying the best gear. How about a video on the best gear, regardless of price. WOW, mind blown 🤯 Instead, another budget camping hiking video for clicks.
Many of us can’t afford the most expensive and many of us really appreciate these videos. Plenty of other channels show the “no budget best gear”. Backpacking should be available for everyone, not just you wealthy pricks 😙
@@AllThingsConsidered333 It is the wealthy who keep the cottage companies pushing the envelope, keeping American ingenuity afloat. And there are not “plenty” of videos showcasing the very best gear. And when you do find them, it almost always comes with a caveat about the price, so they don’t come off as a “prick”. Weak! If you are “thrifty”, “smart”, or “budget minded” with your money, be proud. My dad is. Me- I’m single, make boat loads of cash and proud of it. If proud is synonymous with prick- than 90% of your content creators are pricks for using words like “common man”, and shopping at dollars tree. But let me take this time to say thank you , for greeting me at Walmart🤣 And yes, I shop there too. I get the cheap & the expensive.
dude, tmi. you totally could have left out you drink your dish washing water. like you clearly knew that was weird, why tell us that. we would never know. now i cant help but judge lol
