In this episode we start cleaning up our newly purchased, fixer-upper horse property! At just over two acres, it is so crucial that we make the most of the pasture we have! In order to do this, the first step was putting in a horse pen also referred to as a dry lot. This dry lot will be a place that the mules and horses can stay when the pasture is most vulnerable to over grazing. It is also centrally located and will make rotating fields extremely easy. Keeping the water tanks, salt licks, and hay in this pen will minimize impaction to our fields, since equines like to congregate around those areas.
In upcoming episodes we will be tearing out the old pasture fence, building new, dragging and reseeding our fields, putting in new irrigation lines, building a compost area for the manure, building a shelter, building a covered hay feeder, and setting up our fields for rotational grazing... so stay tuned!
We are also headed to the Black Hills of South Dakota to ride at Custer State Park, attend a Buck Brannaman clinic, ride at Windcave National Park and other various places along the Black Hills. Which we will be videoing and sharing on this channel as well!
