In this video we compare four popular hotel credit cards: the World of Hyatt Credit Card, Marriott Bonvoy Boundless, IHG Premier and the Hilton Surpass. I'll compare all of their features as well has the hotel loyalty programs they belong to, and the value of their credit card points.

@@carlosgaspar2408Yes that is a good source, but keep in mind it is a targeted offer, not a public offer. There's always a chance Chase could revoke those offers for people it wasn't intended for.

Awesome video and you did a great job comparing the cards. I've been eyeing the IHG card for a while, so I'll go with that. However, it was always a contest between World of Hyatt and the IHG for me, even before I watched this video. Your video definitely helped me decide on IHG, as I value that status and Global Entry credit more.

I have the IHG Premier and the card is worth it for the status alone. I get treated very well for being Platinum. Also, I like to stay in nice hotels and there's usually an Intercontinental or Kimpton wherever I go.

Nice! I feel like that’s a great sweet spot for the card. Staying at higher end properties + having platinum status is a great way to travel. It is a really good card that a lot of people seem to overlook. But IHG has something for everyone like you said with the nicer hotels, or budget options if that’s what you want.

I’ve got IHG that I really like and just got my Marriott card 5 free nights award (offer from August when they offered 5 instead of 3). I’m on the fence for Hyatt. I like Hyatt but those 30k points are crappy. Plus with Hyatt bailing on MGM, I’m not sure about it especially with my retirement coming in 2 months with a lot of world travel and limited Hyatt properties. May consider Hilton due to worldwide availability and already have a lot of points. I wish Hyatt would give a bigger bonus…

Nice! Great cards! I got that 5 free night bonus too and that value is insane. This is something I didn’t really mention in the video, but if you’re earning Chase ultimate rewards and transferring them to Hyatt, you could consider getting the Hyatt card for the status benefits. Hyatt globalist is probably the best high end status, and it’s easy to earn Hyatt points through Chase ultimate rewards. Hilton is great too though, especially with the elevated bonuses right now. And you can get a couple of their cards and earn a ton of points. Good luck figuring out which is best for you!

@@dotted8- That's fair. Using them for business and first class flights can give you a much higher redemption value than using them to stay at a Hyatt Place or a Hyatt House. Some of the higher end Hyatt properties can give you 3¢-5¢ per point if you're into the luxury properties, but sounds like you've got hotels covered pretty well between IHG and Marriott.

Hyatt is the best value in my opinion. The annual free night alone makes it worth keeping. I wish they had an ultra-premium card that had automatic Globalist status and airport lounge access. I would definitely product change to that card.

I totally agree, I love my Hyatt card too! I feel like the card is really underrated, especially the welcome bonus. Hyatt points just get you so much further than the other hotel currencies. The free night is great, and it’s not too hard to earn more free nights with Hyatt. Chase points are so easily transferable to Hyatt which makes it easier to get Hyatt points. If there were a higher tier Hyatt status I would definitely get that card too.

Top 2 hotel CCs are Marriott Boundless and IHG premier get the SUB on the boundless & PC to Ritz Carlton on yr 2 IHG is a keeper / sock drawer as you receive a FNC every year with Platinum status for just keeping the card

Yes, there’s so much value with the IHG premier just for the $99 annual fee. And the Boundless welcome bonus can be amazing, plus the Ritz Carlton card is a fantastic premium option.

I think they can be seen as a + to people who travel 3-4 times a year at least or are strong Hilton loyalists, but can be annoying for others that have burnout with Amex Statement Credits (the new Resort Credit). I plan to downgrade my Surpass this year, and then keep my Hilton Honors Biz Open for Gold Status.

Yeah that’s a solid strategy. Do you think the honors business card will keep its priority pass benefit? I would be surprised if it did, but as it stands it’s probably the best airport lounge access card if 10 visits to the lounge is enough for you. So I kinda hope it does!

Question: I am going to product change my Bonvoy BOLD card to Ritz Carton - after that plan to apply to Bonvoy Brilliant - Can I simultaneously have both Chase Ritz Carlton & AMEX Marriott cards ? Or Mutually exclusive - Only 1 or the other? Need advise before applying!

Currently you are potentially eligible for the AMEX Brilliant welcome bonus, but once you get the ritz card you will not be. The answer is a bit complicated so look for the article from Frequent Miler titled “Are you eligible for a new Marriott card?” That should give you some clarity.

You can earn Diamond status, as a Surpass card holder, via stays/points/nights. Not just $40k spend per year. I have the surpass card and have hit the Diamond status mark 3 years now. This point structure is not just points spent at the location, but also at it's point multiplier. For instance, I dropped $500 for dinner at a 6x multiplier and received 3,000 hilton points (good for redemption and good for the platinum milestone 120k points). Additionally, if I decide to use the aforementioned 3k points towards a stay that 3k still remains towards my platinum status goal. For that reason, you should give Surpass one point for status earning.

This was the case temporarily due to the pandemic. However, I believe that is no longer the case. This is what I found on the Hilton website: “How long will Bonus Points count towards Elite tier qualification?  Bonus Points earned through eligible purchases on your Hilton Honors American Express card that post to your Hilton Honors account between now and December 31, 2023 will be considered Base Points that count toward Elite tier qualification and Lifetime Diamond Status. “

I applied for IHG premier card last year and used the bonus points. Can I cancel my current card and re-apply again for the same card to get new bonus points? If yes, then is there a wait time or I can apply immediately after canceling?

Unfortunately not. I believe the minimum is two years before you can get the bonus again. I would wait 30 days before applying for the second.

Every card except the Hilton card can have points transferred from Chase. Although I would say Hyatt is probably the only one valuable enough to justify transferring.

Aren't IHG points worth 0.8 cents per point, making it the same as Marriott's?

You can definitely value points different than what I did in this video, and different sources will value them between .5 to .8 cpp. But in my experience, and with the sources I look at .5 cpp is a reasonable valuation when looking at all IHG properties.

If you would like the welcome bonus, and the higher rate of points earning on Marriott spend, then I would recommend it. There’s a lot of value there. But I wouldn’t recommend it if you’ve got more points than you need/can reasonably spend.

The Venician, the belaggio and the MGM grand are all nicer properties, but they’ll be on the more expensive side typically. The Flamingo, Linq and Excalibur are the more budget friendly options.

I typically stay at the Excalibur with my family since it’s the cheapest. We were getting nights for around $30 last year and we didn’t pay any resort fees! It was not in the center of the strip but it was hard to pass up!

For the Hilton credit, can I just pop into a Hilton and use the $50 credit at the bar? Or a restaurant? Or do I have to be staying at the hotel?

There’s a possibility if you create a folio that you could do it because it sounds like incidental charges will count. But it might not… Here’s what the website says: for eligible purchases charged directly with a property within the Hilton portfolio on their Card Account, including bookings and incidental charges. For a booking to be eligible for a statement credit, the booking must be made directly through a reservation channel operated by Hilton.

That is a fantastic offer. Huge value! I got that same one earlier this year and I’m super happy with it so far. The only thing to keep in mind is that those credits expire after one year so be sure to use them!

Which will you choose? If you’re likely to transfer Chase points over to Hyatt at some point it could be beneficial to go with the Hyatt card. Otherwise there IHG card gives you a lot of perks.

Yes agreed! I would say it’s Hyatt’s biggest flaw. Did you see that Hyatt sent out an email about Mr. And Mrs. Smith today? They didn’t mention anything about points redemptions but there was a promo for buying gift cards that earns Hyatt loyalty nights. I’m hoping they keep developing to the point where we can redeem points for those locations. That would improve the footprint a lot. But for now we wait!

I have the card and you receive a free night every year automatically. From the Chase website: “Get a Free Night Every Year… Plus, an extra free night at any Category 1-4 Hyatt hotel or resort if you spend $15,000 in a calendar year.” You get both a free night AND the ability to pay to earn one.
