Bro Datsun??? 😭😭😭 it’s a Daihatsu The 659cc was also available in Europe only in RHD The 1.3 is the one from the Daihatsu Sirion, Terios, and Materia (and other cars like the Perodua Myvi, Toyota Passo etc)
Yep, the 1.3 DAIHATSU Copen is a mini-monster. Copen is now basically it's own marque under Toyota and there are a handful of variants including the Toyota Copen GR. NOT sure why you would put the S660 ahead of the Copen GR. Here is a Copen GR topping 200km/h ! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nnvw-QZCktc.html
@@sheppardpat47 Yes, but as a Japanese, I feel Daihatsu and Toyota are different. Toyota is a global company, whereas Daihatsu is a car for the common people in Osaka.
Being the kei car geek that I am, your video footage of the "Pajero Mini" is actually the Pajero Junior, as can be seen by the chunky side mouldings and wider wheelarches. The latter was indeed based on the Pajero Mini, but was not categorised as a kei car due to its larger engine (1100cc) and chunkier wider wheels. I had one of these Pajero Juniors for several years and can confirm that it is a surprisingly capable little off-road machine. A great video, thanks ROSS TALK!
I think you’ll find the Copen was made by Daihatsu who are owned by Toyota so the model name remains in house. Australia imported Copen’s made by Daihatsu for about three years.
Love the Pajero Mini and didn't know about the Suzuki Twin - that looks fun! Luckily I own an Autozam AZ-1 and they are just as fun to drive as they are to look at. I've owned mine for 5 years now and love it to bits.
Thanks for this video. Great fun. I had a Cappuccino as my daily car when they were current. One of my all time favourites. Would love a Honda S660 too 😅
Awesome video! a bit of a correction for you though: for future reference, they're not "gold-wing" doors, it's pronounced "gull-wing,", and they got their name because the way they look when they open is reminiscent of when a seagull flaps it's wings. Keep up the good work though!
Belated thanks for this excellent vid on K-cars. I’m Japanese, living in NZ (28 yrs) and owned a K-car once when young in JPN. It’s highly unlikely, but if I were to go back to JPN to live, I would own 2 K-cars : 1 for practicality and 1 for fun. My choice of the combo would be a boxy 5 door hatch (like your Suzuki) and a Honda S660 or a Daihatsu Copen (preferably 1st gen).
I wish we got more Kei cars in the UK besides the Datsun Copen, these cars are more suited for our roads than the now monster trucks we now get. Whats sad is that these kei cars are about the same size as European hatchbacks in the 90s and early 2000s. Cars are just too big now for most people.
Hello , I enjoyed your "10 best K cars video, but you did leave out all the vintage K cars. I live in north Carolina USA and now own a Suzuki Mighty Boy and a Daihatsu Midget 2. These are the best K cars in my opinion along with the Autozam AZ1. . I hope to hear back from you. Take care ..John Belmarce at: J&M fil am vlog.
& Now you've joined the classic Kei car club yourself Johnny mate, they're definitely unique compared to all the other cars out there,ok have fun driving yours bro & cheers for the review man.
Thank you, the informational video. Missing Nissa Figaro, besides the Autozam, Beat, and Cappuccino, they forget about the Figaro - classic styling. Me, craving the S660
7:25 There is no legal limit for hp. You can have a 1000hp kei car, if it has a 660cc engine. There is only a gentleman agreement, that no kei car can have more than 64hp, just like no car can have more than 276hp according to this. But there is no legal limit.
Daihatsu, not Datsun. Toyota has been a major shareholder of Daihatsu since the 60s, and since 2016, became the sole owner of Daihatsu. Datsun was a Nissan brand for export to foreign markets. Nissan has never made a sports Kei Car. Shit, technically, Nissan has only made one Kei Car of their own, ever. The Supermini, which was a battery electric microcar, but they only made ~300 of them. Everything else has been a badge-swapped vehicle, mostly taking from Suzuki, or Mitsubishi. Their latest Kei cars are made as a joint venture with Mitsubishi.
Hey Jon, I really enjoyed this video because I've become quite the kei car fan since moving to Australia as well :) I want to one day get a Honda S660, and swap a 3rd-gen Busa motor into it, same 6-speed manual and everything. It sounds like a nightmare, I know, but I think I want to keep it street legal.
I own an S660 and no way a 1.3 4 cyl is going to fit in the back of it. With the current 0.66 3 cyl there already isn't any room to replace stuff like fan belts.
My autozam has a Toyota mr2 body kit and logo and I have Lamborghini style door open mechanisms instead of following so I now have two roof windows where the previous hinges were on the roof it's great an if i take a photo from the floor pointing diagonally up the way in the right light it looks just the same as the mr2s size until you don't have the best photo angle or the high distanced view sometimes possible
Oof You called a daihatsu a datsun Anyway Whats your thoughts of the Daihatsu opti beex aerodown If you want to see more kei cars i have made a playlist of them on my channel
In 2030 I think I'm going to try an important s660 I love them as soon as I found out about them few years ago and I wanted one but they're not legal in Canada
Datsun someone needs to do their homework, in the UK we got both the 660 and 1300 versions my wife had 1, we also got the Suzuki cappuccino but with our weather most have all rusted away. If latest Copen was sold in the UK we would have 1 .
I want all these in the USA 😅😢 kei cars are so rad to me (as I drive a forged, bored over 30 thou , big turbo rat-rod miata with about 400hp 😅) .. idk why more countries didn't get the kei cars tbh as they are super practical for daily life and the rate of fuel price fluctuations and the ev crap going down , I think we all deserve a lil beat In our lives 😅.. na but for real man they would do so well with the state of the economy right now ... and I just make more reasons why everyone should have a fun lil go-cart inspired toy to toss around the canyons and just enjoy the driving experience, cuz so many the newer cars have lost the analog connection from driver to car to road that you just commute now no one really enjoys just the drive or the trip to the destination... I know tha usta be one my fave things , was the ride to get were we were going 😅... n e ways peace and love all keep it rad stay safe and build on l8z fam and have fun
I'm thinking a Suzuki Cappuccino would make a fine stablemate for my Miata. It even looks like a Miata . Only problem would be the possibility that the Miata might start to feel too big.
The United States needs to abolish the stupid 20 year rule so we can import newer cars like the Honda S660. Lord knows nobody here in the states will build us anything that affordable and cool. Japanese stuff is always some of the best.
There are no Datsuns in Japan. It was the name of the importer into the US. They did bring the name back for cheap out of market cars in the mid 2010s but I think those are dead as well
Keo cars do not have the requirement maximum of 64 HP, that was a gentlemens agreement between the companies but some kei cars do more than 64 HP. The 660cc is a requirement.
A great list with some very quirky JDM Kei cars... Have you seen any JDM cars with a retro English body kit? Some of these came from factory and look hideous 🤮
Bro the number 5 is a daihatsu not a datsun thats why they did the jump from it to toyota coz daihatsu is owned by toyota not like the datsun that was a nissan company
So there's a couple problems I have with your list! First your number 1 car can't be imported to the USA for another 10 years at least😂 personal problems I know. Second your number 2 car is actually a suzuki... suzuki designed the car and then scrapped the idea to make the cappuccino and mazda bought it from suzuki and those two cars actually share the same engine. My problem with the Autozam is it's more expensive for no reason harder to work on because it's a mid mounted engine and parts are more expensive especially for the doors because not as many of them were made and those doors are just wild 😂 so for the next 10 years my number 1 is a cappuccino maybe I'm biased because I just bought one 😅 but I get your list is more what would you like to have and not what you can actually have so in that case I want a 1970s skyline 😂
