As a 19 year old after leaving a Poole training with recruitment center of Marines I went into the mall and an Asian massage therapist offered me free massage as an attempt to attract me into paying for full treatment. After the free back massage shoulder massage I felt like I was ready to run a 5K again and feeling like I just woke up and showered refreshed in energy physically and mentally. It was also the first professional massage I ever had in my life

Especially when they are already being proactive about maintaining healthy physical fitness with regular exercise and maintaining a healthy trim weight.

PLEASE let the therapist work.. the therapist will know what to do once you tell them what your goal is and what you do. Also, PLEASE tell them if youve had any injuries or accidents, the massage will actually harm you more than help you at that point. The therapist doesnt need help, if they need it moved, they will move it. Just RELAX - Licensed Massage Therapist

Hi guys, Love your shows. I’m a board certified massage therapist in Ontario, Canada for 15 years. I always smile when I hear “sports” massage. Massage therapy encompasses everything you “briefly” but well explained in your video. What differentiate “sports” massage from therapeutic massage ? Would be great if you could do another scientific video on this matter. ❤

Sports massage simply means that you're doing it for the benefit of your athletic career/habits. Like he explained in the video, either to recover from an event or to prepare for one, rather than a random relaxation opportunity.

From what I remember in school a “sports” massage is kind of quick, like 20 min or so. As mentioned in the video, it can be fast and rhythmical to stimulate muscles and get them ready for performance. Therapeutic in my opinion can be a recovery or like a tune up if that makes sense. Used to manage trigger points, adhesions, high resting muscle tension, etc. I am also a RMT in Ontario and love talking about these kind of stuff. Also feel free to correct me if I missed something

Vibration is an incredible tool and I wish it didn’t have the stigma of only being used for sexual health, especially in a negative way. The only difference between a Theragun and a Hitachi Magic Wand is location and intention. That said - massage and manual therapists are not sexual service providers and that connotation also needs to be broken.

Considering how accurate and detailed these informations were about the different techniques, the effects and their recommmended usage, I'd say they most definitely contacted an actual therapist (if not multiple) to write the script for this video. I was missing only one aspect, and it's how the patient recieves (from a sociological point of view) the treatment. They touched on it briefly when they said "some athletes feel like a good massage before exercise is a must, part of the routine, in a superstitious way", and here I can add that you can be the best educated, well experienced, most well known massage therapist in the world, if your patient for whatever reason doesn't feel comfortable getting a massage, you'll cause more harm than good. I'm also a psychology student btw :D

Informative, as always-thanks! @TheAnatomyLab, what about the timing of massage before or after exercise? E.g. are there studies that suggest an optimal time window for recovery massage after an event, i.e. not too soon and not too long after finishing the event? Or how long or soon before a run would an "activation" massage be most effective?

Hey, that's all well and good, but what about the people who have static postures/sedentary lifestyles and not only damage those muscles from overuse but may harm the compensatory muscles the body recruits afterwards. The same goes for someone who may have been injured, e.g. a knee/ankle injury (sports as an example) early in life and kept playing or even stopped and developed compensatory strategies over time. That seems to encompass a larger audience than those using massage techniques to boost performance.

Not any kind of pro here. But. Well. I sit on a simple wooden chair because doofus me would rather buy another camera lens than a chair. Thing is. Lean back. What happens? If you do that like me legs locked under the chair you'll notice your abs are tight. Your back relaxes. So. I think leaning back on a comfy chair where that doesn't compromise the upper back is probably good. From time to time. I got some pretty noticable spinal erectors and I can immediately feel them softening up

Can putting ice pack on body ease muscle soreness?
@johnwilliams8818
@johnwilliams8818 6 месяцев назад
Ice causes the tissue to compress/tighten which can lower the risk of strain and reduce inflammation. But you'll still likely ache some and the tissue regenerates.
@Luaone
@Luaone 6 месяцев назад
Avoid ice, just stretch frequently and invest in a massage gun. Inflammation is the key to recovery. Ice should only be used for painful injuries to numb pain. Other than than that it delays blood cells to circulate and initial inflammation causing the injury to heal slower. That is why you should only ice something 20 mins/every hour until you feel the pain lessen. (*Within the first 48 hours the injury start, works best)
@posturerestorations
@posturerestorations 6 месяцев назад
No ice. No yoga. No repetitive activities. No tight clothes or socks. Use heat, castor oil for 20 minutes a day and 20 minute walk a day. This helps blood enter into muscles and forces out disease and damage.

This might be a dumb question, but does the direction in which you massage matter? Should you message in the same direction the blood flows? Could veins become distended/varicose if you massage in the wrong direction?
@sydneyholmes4163

Varicose veins are a contraindication. One would not get massaged on the veins only above it bringing the flow towards the heart

@TexadaIslandRocks
@TexadaIslandRocks 6 месяцев назад
I'm a massage therapist, we are trained that after we ar finished massaging an area to "flush" it out meaning going from the distal part (hands, feet) to the proximal part (hip or shoulder joint) because the veins return deoxygenated blood to the heart and also lymph fluid. They have valves in them so that the blood or lymph flows in one direction which is back from the pherphial area(s) to central part of the body if that helps answer your question :)

Cross-sh*t is the dumbest thing. You take compound movements and load them with weight and lift them as fast as possible. No wonder a majority of my rehab clients were cross-sh*tters.

always knew that a massage is good for my body. Especially a thai massage with happy ending in the early morning, boosts my performance for the entire day.

Usually your videos have some reference to studies that back up the claims. This video was seriously lacking that. “Generally speaking” , “is believed to be” , “can be beneficial” are all phrases used a lot in this video. Not saying massage therapy isn’t effective but I usually come to these videos for analysis that I can’t get elsewhere. Disappointing.

That's because people are different and can have very different results from one to another. So it's hard to have physical evidence on something like massage therapy

There are a lot of variables to this, much more older research and no real interest or profit from newer research. Massage therapy works, if it didn’t you wouldn’t see being performed on Olympic athletes, NHL players, NFL etc.
