We went to Choi's Kitchen today for lunch and it was awesome. My wife had the Squid and she loved it. She said everyone was ordering Squid today and they were almost out. I told her I saw it on Charles on RU-vid and two others there said they did too. She asked if you are famous and I said yes, so you are famous. 😀🤙

The Safeway ribs is pretty good. But they haven't had the ribs on $5 Friday sales for a while now. Mostly the chicken tenders and chicken. This week, the meatloaf is on $5 Friday. Meatloaf taste okay. I agree that the chicken tenders isn't good. I haven't eaten at Choi's Kitchen. Maybe I will give it a try. But prices must have gone up from this video's prices with the inflation.

Choi's Kitchen is my go-to spot for Korean food on O`ahu. It is a bit pricey (by plate lunch standards), but you are getting CONSISTENT QUALITY, and I've never finished my meal and walked away hungry. That's why I eat there regularly! Jeannie and her sister, the owners, are really great people, and your comment about customer service was spot-on. The flavor profiles were accurate, and if you want it a little bit more or less spicy, they will gladly customize. If you haven't had the bulgolgi & spicy pork combo, any combo with the tofu, or one of the daily specials (with mushrooms when available), I would recommend them. That being said, I have never had a bad, or even sub-par meal here in all the years I've been coming here. Try'em!

We have the same traditional Chinese herbalist- small world! My go-to for ribs is Kau Kau Grill. I remember I tried the Tony Roma's branded packaged precooked baby back ribs that needs to be heat up that I bought from Safeway several years ago. The flavor was great, but the second time I tried it I got food poisoning from it, so I never tried a prepackaged ribs from Safeway ever again after that. I guess I could also just have been sensitive to one of the ingredients in the ribs or sauce, I don't know. Maybe I'll give these new Safeway ribs a try.

@@AuthenticallyCharles you can tell her Mia the piano teacher recommended her place. She is diamond in the rough lol. I used her red sauce a lot. Great with hot rice and fresh salad Sells for around 8 .

I love that the video started with your plate getting a huge serving of Japchae! My go-to ribs are the Saint Louis style ribs at costco but you have to cook them yourself. It does resemble Facehuggers haha. (Alien Day is 2 months away). I've never paid that much for a plate lunch before but it looks well worth it. Looks like a lot of food and good quality as well. I think my place at Windward Mall could compete with it but mainly because it is cheaper but might not be as good haha.

That Kalbi looks great. But the Korean BBQ we've had in LA is mostly better than the Korean in Hawaii. BTW, my "gold standard" for ribs (not korean) is Gates' BBQ in Kansas City.

As I'm from Kalihi, there's been a number of places that's closed recently for several reasons. There's been Boulevard Saimin, Meg's Drive-inn, all of the eateries in Ranch 99 in Mapunapuna, Libby's Manapua, and most recently, Island Style BBQ and Tasty Chop Suey. As most of us eat at the many mainland-based fast food chains, I ask everyone to spread around the patronage by going to 'local' small business restaurants also. @@AuthenticallyCharles

My "Gold Standard" for ribs is Chili's Full Rack Baby Back Ribs! However, Costco Wholesale Baby Back Ribs isn't too bad either (except it doesn't fall of the bones).

I just put it on my list for where to eat when i visit oahu in June. In term of cost gotta support the mom and pop stores and if the food is as good as you say i don't mind paying a couple of extra bucks!

While at it supportibg mon n pops , the chinese kitchen at temple valley offers 6 dollar dinner plate starting at 3 pm. Usually gone by 4.000.. 2entrees with rice or noodles. I love the mexican chili rellenos and subway.. in the same complex. Try the 2.50 Taco tuesdays . Not bad.

Check out the katsu at Kim Chee enchanted lakes. Meat jun and pork jun bomb as well. Another good spot is Youngs Kal Bee in Aiea. Trust 🤙🏽

The Richie's owner has since retired last year (Summer 2022), and yes, his menu plus having a plate lunch drive-thru location was great! Having Rainbow's right up Houghtailing St. does soften the loss of that specific menu.

Charles, I don’t care for Tony Romas’ ribs. I prefer a Texas BBQ ribs and preferably large beef ribs smoked then grilled to perfection. I smoke my own and think they are on par with Texas BBQ. I love Korean BBQ, especially the kind where you grill your own. I prefer beef over chicken or pork. I like squid but the presentation of the body of the squid doesn’t look appealing to me. I’m sure it taste good.
