Solid laptop, good review. When you open the laptop, I realize the internal design of the laptop looks really good, no wasted space, everything seems organized, limited upgrade, it doesn't look far from internal of high-end ultrabooks.
For those asking, the R7 8845hs is equal to a 5800x3d, 15% less than a 7800x3d… but its around 45% more powerfull than a M3 with a better battery life and the best igpu on the market rn (cyberpunk 1080p low 75fps, medium 50fps) Pro tip there is a really small computer named Gmktek K8 with the ryzen 7 8845hs even smaller than mac mini or any sff for around 500$ it’s an amazing value too
Thanks for reviewing this laptop. It’s been hard to find a review of this particular model and I really like the way that you review. Currently considering this laptop with 32GB RAM and 1TB storage for £867.49. I could shave £70 off by getting it with no OS and bringing my own 1TB M.2 2280 SSD which you helpfully demonstrated can be substituted in. But then I don’t know what I’d do with the one that comes with the laptop. It’s a shame they don’t let you just buy it without storage. I have a pre-order for a Framework 13 with 2.8k display (120Hz IPS) and Ryzen 5 7640U, but this laptop is making me reconsider. It’s a shame because I really like Framework as a company, and I think they have a great product, but it’ll be about £200-£250 more expensive for lower specs (most crucially for me only a 61Wh battery). Decisions decisions…
I'm in the UK and got the exact spec you listed for £893 about a month ago and that was including a 10% discount for signing up to there newsletter (you get a promo code via email). I'm mainly use for CAD work which has been no problem. Build quality feels great, speakers are average and the screen is a love/hate relationship. Looks fantastic but the glossy reflections are very noticeable. For the price I paid I'm happy but I guess now with the 10% discount you could get it for less than £800! I looked at framework too but right now a similar spec (7840U - 2.8K Display, 1 TB SSD, 32GB memory and windows) is £1,713... I just cannot see the value there. Notebookcheck have a written review with benchmarks. Search "Lenovo IdeaPad Pro 5 14AHP9 laptop review"
@@JackT9595so I eventually cancelled my Framework pre-order. I just couldn’t justify the price. Btw the price I quoted already included a 10% discount. It wasn’t from signing up to their newsletter but I tried and the discounts can’t be stacked.
Had about the same situation (~1300€ Framework preorder with the Ryzen 5 vs the 899,01€ Ideapad with the Ryzen 7). I ordered the IdeaPad and now I’m waiting for it to arrive.
Nice review! Surprisingly, IdeaPad Pro is available in India with some pretty good variants on Amazon and also on Lenovo Website. 14' AMD variant is even customizable on Lenovo site but no RAM upgrade option. 16' AMD is available with even RTX 4050 for 128K which seems perfect for someone who games occasionally. Would've gone for that one myself but I wanted 4060 for future games lol
I have been waiting this vid for soo long, EXTREMELY excited to be using this as my main driver. Didn't realize just how good of an all-rounder this IdeaPad is. Thank you once again for selling this one to me, you completely sold me on it and I can't wait to start using it!!!
Hey man, you said they were very helpful when you bought the laptop, BUT I didnt catch the part where you said who you bought it from, what chinese/reseller did you bought if from please?
@@romarsit1795 I took the 32gb ram and 1t storage version with integrated graphics. The screen is crazy good, fan noise is non existent. Battery is great, on an office workload (excel, word, web pages) with 75% brightness you can work 6-7h. At least. Build quality is good, the laptop is solid. The only plastic part is around the screen. Trackpad works well. I had a very old laptop so I could feel the huge improvement. Fast charging is good to have.
@@romarsit1795 Sorry, i missed your comment. I bought the 1TB storage 32gb ram version with no OS. This configuration costed 1025€ in Italy. The OS costed 20€ so we are talking of about 1050€ as a total. I had a very old pc Intel I7 7th gen so for me the jump was huge. Laptop is great, screen is amazing. Battery is very good as well. 75% brightness ensure you at least 8h of mix work including online meetings, web browsing, excel, powerpoint and similar. Build quality is high, the only part that makes the laptop "less premium" is the plastic frame around the screen, but tbh i do not judge the laptop for that small detail. Keybord is smooth, trackpad too. Tbh i'd do this purchase again and again. Great value for this price.
Hi, i would love to hava an oled monitor on my notebook, but since im doing mostly scool stuff (lots of document reading) im really afraid of burn in. Is ips better suited for me?
I've been wondering why they wouldn't put decent batteries in smaller laptops. I mean, I understand that the form factor is smaller but it's not a reason to half the battery capacity. Turns out it's pretty possible and probably wasn't done previously because "business" With upcoming Snapdragon ARM processors, I'm finally looking forward to a decent battery lifetime on laptops besides Macbooks
Hi Beau great review! i've been eyeing this laptop for a while now. planning to get it for productivity work while travelling + some gaming. in my country there's a configurarion with a 3050 gpu for an extra USD 130. Would the dedicated GPU affect the battery life even when doing simple tasks, like web browsing or document editing? and would the additional fps when gaming be worth it?
780M is basically on par with a 1650 mobile, but less power hungry. 3050 mobile is 130 Watt and 780M just 54 watts. Additional fps (from 20% to 30% more) are worth it imho at the cost of less battery life. Choose whats worth for you.
Hi Beau! Thanks for this, I just ordered this laptop today, I'm thinking of using it for my video editing job. Will it be good for after effects, I mean not so heavy effects, just text animation some basic things. Will it suffice?
Thank you very much for the review. What laptop would you recommend for work and multimedia usage, this or the HP pavilion plus 14 (AMD Ryzen 7 7840U)? In my country the price is with 900 Euros the same. Thank you.
Thank you for your great review. I ordered the EU version directly from Lenovo last week and am waiting for delivery. With the ‘close tab’ trick I got another 20% discount and finally paid less than 730€. (32g/1TB) Question: You replaced the SSD with a 2280. I'm thinking about doing the same and would like to use the WD SN850x 4Tb, but it has chips on both sides. What were your experiences, does an SSD 2280 with chips on both sides fit and what are your temperatures of the SSD?
hey dude could you please tell me where you ordered it ? I'm looking forward to this laptop as well. Looks like a well made laptop to me. Please do let me know about the online website where you ordered it.
@@Frownwarrior somehow i can't get those same specs as in this video what i was able to configure on lenovo official website in germany was 16gb soldered ram/1tb ssd which was the most they offer right now and display panel unfortunately is only 400nits hoverever is oled 2.8k 120hz and that all low specs for around 1k€. how did you get that for 32gb/1tb for 730 € 🤔 there is no way for that less money lenovo will offer something in europe Vat included right ?

trying to pick between this and Yoga 7 2in1 - specs are similar except this has a RTX 3050 and a 2.8K OLED screen 120hz vs 1900x1200 60Hz OLED. Like you said my region I can only get this in 16GB of ram, but the price is good. I love the look of the Yoga 7 2in1, specially the edge to edge glass - but would you say this machine is worth it considering they are the same price in my region (~1600NZD, using a calculator 1,300 CAD)
Many of us are looking forward to your fine reviews of things we can purchase easily. Nice laptop though, wouldn't mind a 780m for integrated graphics. Perhaps you could give tips on finding good value laptops for sale in Canada (and US for views as they have 10x the population.)
Hello i am confused for getting lenovo ideapad 5 pro and yoga 7 pro both with 8845hs, rtx 3050 6gb, 16gb ram/512gb ssd. ... please give your insight about the build quality, battery and portability as i am a college student and would like to use for long term and play games aswell.
@Just_a_random_birb Hey, I'm thinking of getting the same laptop with rtx 3050, but I'm concerned about heating issue and fan noise when I'm doing light to moderate tasks apart from gaming. So could you please tell me of your facing any of these ? Also what's the TGP ?
@@Kenshi_001 I’ve been using the 16-inch Ideapad Pro 5 with the RTX 3050, and for light to moderate tasks, the fans are very quiet, and I haven’t experienced any heating issues. The laptop only gets loud and hot during heavy tasks like gaming or 3D work, but it doesn’t throttle due to overheating. The TGP of the RTX 3050 is 115 watts. Additionally, the battery life is quite good; with light use, it can last up to a full day. If you’re mainly using it for everyday tasks, you shouldn’t have any issues with fan noise or overheating.
Also, would this be the same as EU version 14 inch ideapad pro with 32GB RAM, OLED, 8845HS? (available for about 1k euros incl VAT) EDIT: the damn troll speaker grills again! Speakers actually are on the bottom man
absolete garbage laptop. thinkbook 14+ i5 125h have better battery life micro sd ethernet(!!!) pcie 4.0x4 2280+5.0x4 2280+exterlal pcie 4.0x4 (sff 8611) for gpu/datacenter ssd at the same price (+35$) and finally-upgradable button to fingerprint reader!!! or +200$ for i7 155h which alrealy have fingerprint reader.
the thinkbook has worse battery life, and its not OLED. I have a review of the thinkbook 14+ coming in a couple days with AMD (the better cpu option). its a great laptop

@@johnworkman2743 yes i got it on May 23 for INR 58k.. for that price its very good.. aluminum body, 3k 120Hz OLED Display, very good battery life, decent speakers.. overall its very good except not expandable ram..
tbh my biggest issue with this kind of laptop is the storage and ram limitations, I would have loved it if it had 2 slots, since I need 64 gb bcs I am into slightly heavier virtualization (multiple linux/windows machines) and some compilation tasks
I got the version with wifi 6 but there was an option to get wifi 6e. I'm kind of regretting because the price difference was just around 2 dollars. But I want to know if the wifi is upgradeable to wifi7?
Hello bro just asking how strong is the hinge part ? I am worried about that hinge part because I own a normal IdeaPad before COVID period.. it becomes so loose in time rendering the laptop unusable . But I enjoy video , almost wanted to buy 😅
I just ordered a version of this laptop in the UK with 16GB RAM, GeForce RTX 3050, and the 2.8k OLED screen. All other specs the same as you covered in your review. You can actually order the 32GB version through Lenovo's UK website and its £125 cheaper than the 16GB version but comes with iGPU only. As far as I can tell you can only purchase the RTX 3050 version with 16GB RAM, no 32GB with discrete GPU option at least in the UK. Build quality looks the same as my current IdeaPad S540-13API.
I'm having the same model but it only last 7 hours for casual browsing Did you enable Energy Saver or reduce Screen Resolution or something like that😥 Thanks.
Curious about charger specs. I burned by mistake last year model, so I have keyboard, battery, but only lcd screen as spare :D also ssd )) Which stand do you use?)
how does sound quality on this new ideapad compare to previous generation of ideapads? I've tried an ideapad 5 pro 16arp8 once, and the sound quality was terrible compared to asus' harman cardon speakers with smart amp (I know it's mostly marketing bs, but I mean I actually loved the sound so much more on asus). I am curious to switch to lenovo and considering to even buy this unit (which is why I found your video), but really hesitating over the sound quality.
Hi just wanted to confirm if this is the same as the Lenovo Ideapad Pro 5 (Gen 9) 14"? They have the same specs but not sure if it's the Gen 9. Thank you!
Thank you for this detailed review. I saw many pictures and videos for this laptop, I can clearly see the fans intake at the bottom, but I can't figure out from where the hot air should come out! could you please explain to me, or show a picture?
Very good in-depth review of the product! I just recently got it, and it was the perfect purchase for me. Do you know if the 2242 SSD that comes with it can be paired with another 2280 ssd?
No additional M2 slots in 14 inch model. They left to much space for the dGPU soldering, unfortunately. The worst part here is there is no 32GB option with dGPU at the same time. You have to pick one 32GB + iGPU or 16GB + dGPU And no viable SSD upgrades as well. Fortunately the stock SSD is fast enough (thought i would like to put in my own 2TB 2280 SSD)
How did you get 7.1 watts on watching youtube 1080p/60 ? Have same laptop and it draining much more power i got around 11-13 watts in power safe mode (windows11) black theme 71% britness 120 hz and around ~10 on 60 hz. I can use it for 6 maximum 7 hours not even close to your 10.
@@TechGuyBeau Thanks for answear, im bad in english can you please explain it differently I have 2 tabs opened, easy site and youtube from autoloading cleaned everything here, watching this video consumption in hwinfo jumps from 11.3 to 13.9 (120hz) . Battery shows 6.29 hours before discharge
@@1ovemeGadisable / uninstall all unnecessary software and processes to save the battery life. I'm not sure which software to suggest you disable. Anything you don't need / use and then try your tests again.
What aliexpress store did you order from? I got burned from lenovo, thought I had a really good deal but they gave me a australian quote by mistake -_- (I live in NZ). Now considering ordering the same one you did, doesn't have the dedicated GPU but it does have 32gb of memory
Just got this a few days ago. This is my first time using an OLED screen, and I noticed there are a lot of grains (little pixelated dots) on the screen when you increase the brightness, mostly visible on a white or gray background. I mean, if I put the screen close enough I can spot them, otherwise it looks fine. Is this a defect of the screen, or is this a "feature" of the OLED?
@@TechGuyBeau I think when I squint my eyes 8-10 inches away from the screen I can notice them. I search google and people said it is a "feature" of the OLED
@@TechGuyBeauThanks a lot for replying! One nore question please: is there a risk of that oled screen burning due to the usage with static images/apps like Excel, Word, etc? Or there are some defensive technologies against this?
what if we can only get the intel variant? in other words, core ultra 7 or 9. would you still recommend it? i imagine battery life and maybe gaming performance wont be as good? thanks a lot fam, i watch all your vids even tho i dont buy all of the devices cos they're super informative!
I have an Intel model of this coming actually. The battery will drop for sure and gaming performance will be a little lower but still fine. To be honest if AMD isn’t available I think Intel is still a rock solid option in this laptop. I’d probably just get the core ultra 7 to save some money. The performance will be also the same as 9
@@TechGuyBeau oh thats awesome, i'll stay tuned for that video :) its so annoying lenovo is shooting themselves in the foot, the amd is available for me but only with 16gb of ram..
I just received mine today (in the UK). It took a few weeks to get here, but it was worth the wait. I went with 32GB and 1TB as those options weren't much extra and ram isn't upgradeable by the user. You'll be very happy with it 👍
@@JamesGadbury Unfortunately the promo 800€ model can't be configured. Without promo it's 1100€. But yeah it's perfectly fine for my needs and at least ssd is upgradeable by myself!
