@@FeelMyBirdie what? in what aspect? in terms of players its higher in terms of power well you'd then have to increase the price a console is a console, plug it in and use it.
BTW, I know many of you guys haven't realized since not many of you hear understand Chinese, the Lenovo Y740s is, in fact, a rebranded version of Y9000X, which the latter only released within China. Here is the summary of the reviews (obviously Chinese) I have gone through Pros - Excellent keyboard - Excellent thermal (~ 85°C CPU temperature, when performing stress test in factory setting, performance mode; ~80°C CPU temperature with constant 4GHz, with -0.135V undervolt) Cons - It seems that there are some hardware defects on the power button on the early batch, which after you press the power button, there is a noticeable delay before the button bounces back. Not sure does this apply to Y740s though. - No dGPU (obviously) - No RGB lighting
Yeah like 10 other people left the same comment, I wonder if so many people actually care about it or are you all the same guy with multiple accounts 😅 is the Y9000X a big deal there?
Looks like ASUS, MSI, and Dell are treating AMD Ryzen 4000 laptops seriously. Look forward to seeing your reviews on these. The other OEM's are holding out. Maybe that backfires on them later. Thanks for all the time and effort covering CES 👍
@@vishalyadav1744 nah, the TUF series isn't in the same level as the predator series, TUF is the same level as the Nitro series and ROG is a competitor to predator
@@lucas_vlanc So far post CES, only the Asus G14 seems to be the possible contender (IF they price it well but I doubt it). MSI new GE66 and GS66 would cost a fortune for sure. Just my opinion thou.
@@JarrodsTech Hey Jarrod, pls don't forget Zephyrus G15 . Indeed G14 is very special but i think you should also consider G15. I am going forward to buy one.
Don't forget to test whether the USB type C display port supports g-sync external display or not when you get your hands on zephyrus G-14. Anyway nice video, keep up the good work 👍
Nice roundup. That Asus with motherboard design doesn't seem to be back heavy or? Im really interested how those new Apus going to perform in laptops ,I have high hopes for them TBH . Safe travels ,I've been in Beijing twice (central EU) but that compared to yours it was piece of the cake ;) Have a good one.
Thanks! Not really, but I guess I wasn't explicitly thinking about it when picking it up. Haha I'm back home now, spent the whole 15 hour flight editing videos and replying to comments so the time went fast!
It's pretty crazy that even though the ProArt StudioBook One has so much power in it, Asus still managed to pack it in such a small, slim and light chassis, plus you can even open it up with one hand which even my laptop can't (hp ultrabook). Amazing job Asus, hope that this type of design will come to a more consumer friendly laptop
I have high hopes for laptops in 2020. Ampere is rumored to be beastly and the amd 4th gen mobile cpus are amazing. My dream laptop would be a 3050 ti and a 6c 12thr 4th gen cpu for 800$. A 120 or 144 hz monitor would be great too.
Wooh is anyone else seeing all that wobble in the footage? Anyway thanks for all your hard work; Those Clevo laptops have been a lifesaver at my work as stop gaps between fleet replacements. I just wish they did a 14" with 4G here in AUS.
Cheers! It's hard to film handheld/with a monopod stable, usually I use warp stabilizer in Adobe Premiere to smooth it out, but my laptop kept crashing so I gave that up, so yeah some is a bit bumpy.
Was doing research from your videos so that i can get myself a gaming laptop this year. Guess Im gonna postpone the plan and wait for all these new laptop available in the market so I didnt regret buying too early.!
Yeah at this stage unless you need something right now worth waiting a few months for everything to refresh as it's not too far out for new Intel/AMD/Nvidia now.
When do laptops usually come out? I’ve been looking to get a gaming / school laptop but I don’t know if I should wait or what the best is now. Awesome videos !
can you pls suggest for me best labtops for video editing and light gaming, i want to buy a labtop that can be light weight, fast, has good thermals. i don' care about budget any where between 1000 to 2000 if fine, do you have any suggestions
Personally I'd look at the Eluktronics MAG-15 or Gigabyte Aero 15, higher side of the price bracket though. If you want the lower side, Acer Helios 300/Lenovo Y540 are worth a look.
The GE66 definitely has my attention and I’m eager to see it released. Nice design, large battery, and great port selection. Honestly big design flaws that other laptops seem to have and this machine fixes. So I have high hopes it’s a good laptop.
Pretty intensive game, definitely something with a 1660 Ti or higher would be my pick. Acer Helios 300/Lenovo Y540 for $1100 or so, 2060 preferable if you can afford it.
ASUS G14 is the one I'm waiting to get for my developer work. Aiming to get the WQHD version due to the higher res, not going to need a fast refresh rate anyway. Would like to get the white one since smudges and dust won't be very visible but due to the cover LEDs being white only the contrast won't be as good as the black one so going to go with that instead.
Would it be reasonable to believe Ryzen 7 4800h laptops with either RX or RTX GPU would be priced around $2000 just like i7-9750h with RTX are right now?
Hey Jarrod! My videos are in the making. AirPods vs. AirPods pro Dell G3 Review 16’ MacBook Pro review GoPro Hero 8 black review Alienware M15 review Razer Atheris wireless review. It’ll be on a different channel, that’s more of a network but I’ll let you know
Hi jarrod great review.... But i know this question doesn't matter here but is msi ge75 rtx 2070 model is not good.?... Can u tell me about that just quickly... Bcz im thinking to buy tht this mnth.. Plz reply... Msi GE75 is good and worth in performance, thermals and life span... Plz bro...
can you tell me how big the difference is with the mini led msi display? is it worth waiting for? can you get a true side by side video of same footage and also confirm the other displays specs and resolution that we are comparing it too. I can't believe no youtuber done this. thanks in advance
It's brighter, up to 1000 nits so HDR1000, it was too hard to tell on the show floor, they had a normal laptop screen next to it for comparison and while there was a huge difference, the bright one didn't look crazy bright to me but the suite is flooded with lighting so you can film so yeah hard to tell. I think some others did specific dedicated videos on mini LED laptops.
Jarrod as always good video and thanks for your latest answers to my q's. I would like to know if any of this new amd laptops are better than the actual Helios 300, for what you said I'm interested in the new Dell g5 but would like to know your thoughts thanks as always
My guess is probably not, but won't know until they're available for testing. I say this for a few reasons, firstly the Intel based Helios is undervolted and power limit boosted, as far as I know you can't do these things on the AMD side yet (maybe that will change with the new stuff). AMD claim the 4800H beats the 9750H in gaming, however if that were the case they would have had graphs showing it doing better in games instead of a Firestrike Synthetic test, which is CPU heavy and would favour the core/thread count on the 4800H. If Ryzen 4000 was better, where are all the high end RTX 2070/2080 laptops featuring it? These things tell me that the 9750H likely still does better in games.
Hey Jarrod, I like your video. I was looking into getting a gaming laptop for when I’m on the go. Looking around the 1000-1300 range. Wanting to get one soon. Should I wait while until one of these release? Not for sure on laptop release dates.
Thanks! For that price I'd be looking at the Acer Helios 300 or Lenovo Y540, as for new stuff, Q1 is meant to be new Ryzen laptops, and I expect Intel/Nvidia refresh before June (maybe March/April), so depends if you want to wait and see what the next cycle has to offer or if you need something sooner.
Jarrod'sTech thank you! I just didn’t want to get one now and in a few month a newer and better version for the same price is released. I have been looking at the Acer 300. Just through I’d get recommendations!
Jarrod do you plan to review some ultrabooks this year? I mean those without dedicated GPU. I'm in need of a new one to replace my buggy Surface Pro 6. Hope you can cover laptops from this category someday.
Don't know much about it, but still 14nm so likely no major changes, maybe little clock speed boost but that will require more power/heat, so probably not a noticeable jump in multicore performance for most laptops unless they can improve those aspects, likely decent single core performance increase, maybe extra cores with i9 but not sure.
No one knows, Intel never releases any updates related to that. Yet, Lenovo Legion Y740s claimed will be released in around May, which has 10th gen H series CPU available as an option, you may take reference from that.
I'll be sure to note how fingerprints go when I test it! Regarding the 300Hz screen, to be clear that's optional, just don't pay extra for it if you don't want it.
@@waverleyjournalise5757 yes tempting for me too. Last laptop I ran it into the ground 14inch HP Beats Audio laptop. I played hell a lot of games on it, it would overheat, throttle, the HDD died and fan made a loud ass noise. I would wack it to stop making the noise. Eventually I salvaged what I could then threw the rest into the recycling bin. Come to think of it should have kept the keyboard. Ah darn it
@@JarrodsTech The only thing stopping the 701 from sitting on my desk right now is the lack of any biometric authentication. Probably why I'm so hyped for the G14 😆
Today, even a last gen i5 beats the Ryzen 7 3750H, the best AMD has to offer. In a month? Hard to say, Ryzen 4000 seems to have a real shot at taking the lead.
Hmm you can get basically anything with that, I prefer thin laptops with extra features so I'd probably get the Aftershock Vapor 15, or otherwise something from Metabox will get you great bang for buck compared to the larger brands.
i bought a gs65 8re about almost a year ago the flex thing doesnt really bother me, but flex improvements in the gs66 sounds good more battery life is a yes as this lasts about 6 or a bit more with 50% brightness with youtube or java screen is good enough on the gs65 8re got it for about 1200usd, back then it was a steal the gs65 is a decent machine, and the improvements made on the gs66 sounds real nice
I covered it in my dedicated Dell video, I admit I didn't consider it for this video as when I started writing it, it was meant to be for gaming laptops only but I changed direction mid way and didn't consider everything I personally saw.
Because it has more CUDA cores/VRAM, in short it's more powerful. It's not for gaming, so the FPS difference is not relevant, that said I doubt it's only 2-3.
Is the helios 300 with the rtx 2060 worth it? I live in brazil and I wanted to buy a good but not to expensive notebook for editing cause I'm going to canada to study at the vancouver film school, that one is one of the cheapest here, well, it isn't that cheap considering that it's worth 8 thousand reais which is the coin here but it's what I can afford here in installments, or I could wait until I'm in canada and buy a better one there, what would you say it's the best decision?
If it's one of the cheapest available with that spec, then yes definitely, it will also outperform most others out of the box with same specs as it's tuned very well.
Why was the Lenovo Y740s mentioned as a 'gaming' laptop? Why was this laptop mentioned in this video at all? There's nothing special about it when there are probably cheaper, older Thundebolt 3 laptops can do the same.
Because Lenovo stuck it under their Legion brand which is for their gaming stuff. There is something special about it. It's been designed specifically for eGPU use, most others this is not the case. This means that CPU power limit is boosted, cooling is dedicated to the CPU, etc, so I disagree and think it's at least a little interesting.
lenovo disappoints the most..literally they only slap an egpu to the price tag, honestly for 1100usd they should include all that and atleast 1660super to make it worth the money
It's an interesting concept because it's a thin machine with a H series CPU with high power limit and all cooling dedicated to the CPU, things that are required for good eGPU performance. Putting in a dedicated GPU would just make it a regular gaming laptop. Basically it sounds like it's not a product for you, but doesn't mean it's not for others.
@@JarrodsTech yup true though, once x670 comes out with usb4 comes year end..hopefully more thin and light in the budget segment from AMD next year comes with support for tb3
