Jeff, after months and months of watching different home renovators' videos I have been able to narrow down my choices of renovators that I go to for DIY videos. You, Sir, are by far, a cut above all of the hundreds of other instructional and informational renovators offered on RU-vid. You not only offer complete tutorials that cover every possible home renovation idea but you also give the DIY'er the options of materials that are available on the market, what to look for, and the Do's and Don't's when working on a project. As a 67 yr. old DIY female, whose only income is dependent on Social Security, I can honestly say that you have saved me a few hundred dollars. I am blessed. I only wish I would have discovered you a few years earlier and I could have saved several hundred more. Thank you, Jeff, for all of the brilliant information you share with the public. That would be me. First thing I did when I bought my house back in like 2012ish, 2013ish? Replaced every light with LED lights. Fricken way expensive, especially back then. But so worth it. Especially for my house. My house still has 100 amp service, and most of the house is wired to just a few 15 amp fuses. Yeah, fuses. I've had to replace like 2 fuses in the 7 or 8 years that I've lived here. I have LED lighting to thank for that.

I love LED lights! I'm building my house right now and I got like 60 6" lights for everywhere. Barely any power consumption, great lighting, pretty easy to install. However I didn't know all these options.

I changed all my house lights to LED's back in 2010 . I had several 24 inch Fluorescents in closets. I just changed them all to LEDs using just the new LED tube lights no wiring needed. I also installed Insteon dimmer switches back in 2010 as well so all lights are dimmable and programmable. I can even change where the switch is located without having to run new wiring . So for that switch thats across the room making you walk in darkness to get to it just mount a new switch at the entrance to the room, simple. Love your stuff Jeff . Having just one arm I've had to look for lots of tricks to do home improvements. Wish you'd been available 20 years ago... Cheers...

Thank you for this info. The timing was perfect for me. I ordered 24 pot lights and one with a motion sensor. (The 20% discount kept my final total under $500. Awesome!) Bought like 20 of these previously!! EASY to install and very happy about the result. The only thing that took me time was to choose 3000k,4000k,5000k temperature.

Thanks for the great content! Just installed 12 led pot lights in my kitchen and 10 in my family room. Different light levels for each. The led lights with switches to change color are a game changer. I’m both cases I selected a different final temperature that what I would’ve purchased.

Motion LED: Great olace is the lined closet. The only problem is getting power to those areas, especially if you live in a condo where the exterior walls are CMU.

Sparky here 32 years in ICI. We finished a near total gut of our house not to long ago. I did not do the electrical myself, primarily to not throw off the generals schedule and so there is no issue in the future for insurance purposes. It's a two edged sword. There are certain things I would have done differently than the electrical contractor did and on the other hand he is a low rise residential guy and knows those codes far better than I. He was also far more aware of, in this case LED lights available. I had have done a moderate amount of ICI LED retro fitting but no a huge amount. So here is what I have learned through both my work and the reno. - these lights are BRIGHT. There is a ton of Lumens coming from them. - the E. Contractor put four on our stairs and upper landing to the 2nd floor. - 2 sets of two. The distance between the fixtures in each set is around 30" and the sets from each other is about 6'. Way too close together. This is like a WWII aircraft search light. - I was not aware of exactly sure during rough in how bright they were going to be. Part of the problem is that mental transition between incandescent and LED and learning the differences. - By code - the cigarette box (driver) is supposed to be mechanically fastened to structure because this is where the line voltage enters the fixture. Functionally you don't want that box possibly moving around and the 120v terminations possibly becoming loose. Based on what I have seen this might be the code but people don' do it. - Except of course..... - Back to my reno. In our stairs the angle of the roof is overhead with the LED fixtures. The insulation is spray foam and pockets were left for the fixtures. - In this case the driver boxes were screwed to the underside of the angled roof. Off to one side of the fixture hole. So of course if they fail I have to cut out the drywall etc. -Do we know how long these drivers/LEDs are going to last? No not really, we only have the claims on the side of the box and as grown assed adults do we believe this? - If you are doing the install yourself or having a reno done, do yourself a favour. If there are fixtures going to be installed where the driver boxes will be effectively made inaccessible, look into who the maker of the product is. Go to their website or call the order/tech desk. What you want to find out is if there are extender cables available, such that the driver can be mounted in accessible location. As I found out later, in my case they could have. -On that note you may need to find out if more than one extender cable can be used if you need to go a longer distance yet. - Different vendors have the colour selector in the driver box. One I worked with had five different settings using dip switches. - One of the things I have looked into, as we still are to this beyond our major reno, is replacing the eaves and soffit. I queried the electrical distributor order desk I have use about LED lighting for the soffit. The answer is there is nothing, at this time, that is specifically rated for this purpose. As he said to me people have used the moisture rated LED's meant for showers, however there are two problems with this. One of course if something really bad happens, the insurance will not payout. The other, and this why the insurance won't payout, is these fixtures are not rated for external use only internal.What has been experienced is after 2-3 winters, ie harsh conditions, they stop working. It's only a matter of time before industry comes out with rated fixtures.

Also, I'm sure that Jeff will give us some good videos here soon using all of the types of lights in this video (he promised he would!).

Unfortunately here in B.C. under Technical Safty BC they state: If you are replacing the light fixture yourself in your own fully detached single dwelling, the Safety Standards Act requires that you obtain a homeowner permit.
