I’ve had this mod in my garage for 3 weeks now trying to figure out how to attack it first. Your videos are great when it comes to step by step instructions. I’ve referred to your channel for many mods I’ve done to my Denali! I have a suggestion on the next possible mod for your truck that I think we would love to see a video on. Installation of the GM illuminated door sills. I might be being just a tiny bit selfish on that one but there hasn’t been a video done for this mod for our trucks. Thanks again for making these videos it encourages many people to start DIY projects.
I just installed one of these on my 2021 GMC Sierra Denali. Just make sure you get the 529005 quick connect harness for 2019 (T1) Builds, else wise you'll get all kinds of error codes. I used the clips with 3M adhesive tape to put on the light bar. The instructions state that the light bar should be about 1/4" above the two lower cut-outs. The biggest pain was getting the tailgate on and off by myself. I put a couple sawhorses with a moving blanket over the top to rest the tailgate on. Nice video. The newer harness has all of the hook-ups so you don't need to touch the stock wiring harness.
Nice! Thanks for sharing the info. For a 2019+ Sierra and Silverado, the harness is absolutely a must. When I ordered my blade the new part with updated wiring wasn't available. Oh well, glad you liked to video though.
Nothing like being sponsored by a brand! OPT7 is a solid choice of light bar for 1/3rd the price. NEVER wire into the trailer harness. Always hard wire it into the tail lights
Just got this on my rig. It was more difficult than I thought, but that is my fault for tackling the tailgate alone. I was able to shove the seemingly 35 extra feet of harness inside the tube of my hitch. I have an HD so it had plenty of room to take it all.
Hands down it looks very thought out. This looks like agame changer. I only say that bc I've had maybe 10ish light bars throughout all my vehicles and none lasted more than a year without failure, but none looked this well put together.
I wanted to thank you for your video and content! I just bought a Sierra Denali and following your lead. This light-bar is my first project on it. In fact I am even posting my install on RU-vid as well. I want to target people that may have the skill set to do this projects but lack the confidence to risk hurting these huge investments (vehicles whatever) represent. For example in the case, the removal of the tailgate terrified me. I mean I had the light in my garage for a week and even text my GMC advisor to set up an appointment to get it installed but didn't press send 😆 .. I took the plunge and the rest of the project was a walk in the park! Anyway thanks again and I did pay homage to you in my video LOL. Check it out.
Great Video and Install, I believe you and I have the same O.C.D. issues Ha Ha. I am surprised that you didn't put silicone caulk in the Screw holes from previous LED strip. I can only imagine the Road Salt and corrasion there. Good luck Sir and keep the videos coming.
Not sure where u live but I’ll never spend $200 on a light bar ever again, I live in northern Alberta Canada and I’ve had the Putco, Recon, and Opt7. All with the reverse feature if u want to use it. Well those 3 brands never even lasted 3 yrs, all gave out in the second yr on my truck. So this time I said I will try a cheap ass $20 one off of Amazon. Well believe it or not it’s been on my truck since 2019 and haven’t had a single issue yet, our winters are crazy cold where I am, I’m talking -40 for weeks at a time, so when this el chepo one gives out I’ll buy another one of them. Hopefully U have better luck then me with that one.lol nm I seen ur plate n see ur in Saskatchewan, So u get some cold weather as well
@Donslife they start losing functionality. Start flickering then brake like will come kn and stay on while none of the other lights functionality then they die. Putco has been awesome with replacing them but it just sucks that ever 4ish months they die. This last one has survived the longest. I'm thinking it might be a humidity issue with me being kn the Texas coast. Or it's something with the refresh trucks burning them out.
I installed mine a while back. I went with the Putco red blade. It has the red turn signals rather than the amber. It looks cleaner and more unison in the back my opinion.
Looks good but way too much wiring on the light bar.i prefer the opt7 redline triple light bar.only has a flat 4 connector and 1 wire for the reverse wire to hook up.also has sequential turn signals.
I looked hard at the same one you mention. I couldn’t easily get it shipped to Canada either. In the end with our extreme climate the IP69 rating for the Putco vs the IP67 rating for the Opt7. Also 3yr warranty vs 2. But I agree on all of the benefits you mention. Had it not been for the shipping issue, I may have tried it.
@@Donslife I didn't think about you being in canada.i haven't had any issues out of my opt7.ive had this one on my truck 2 1/2 years with zero issues.just bought my friend one for christmas.i had one on another truck also.before I discovered opt7 I ran cheap ones and they always got water in them and lights would burn out.i like how the mounting brackets were on your putco
Well done. I really like this mod. Greatly increases the rear lighting when in reverse. Took your advice with the boost auto tap for extra lighting in reverse, but I may add this to the list in the spring as well. My only concern is the self drilling screws. Hate putting holes in a painted surface exposing bare metal. How well do you think the 3M tape that comes with it would hold up on it's own, without the screws?
You can get amber or red for the blinking turn signal. All they had from the Canadian distributor at the time was amber. Doesn’t bother me. It could be blue, I never see it 😂
It is plug and play. Just that some configurations depending on the vehicle specs may need an additional harness. Reverse may need a wire tap to the reverse lights though
Have you had any concerns with the lawsuit saying that they knowingly installed a faulty part for the ecoteccylinder deactivation? Love the truck btw getting a 19 gmc at4 soon
I do have some underlying concerns. I do take comfort in two things. 1 - If I have a failure, warranty will cover it. 2 - The percentage of failures (I’ve heard/read) are single digit numbers. I love my truck
Has anyone had issues with this Putco LED blade light bar burning out around a year? I have one and are going to install it but have read that folks have had issues with this.
I have a OBT7 Redline Triple LED Tailgate light bar Installed on my 2022 Tundra 1794. Everything works great. No codes/errors on Dash. Then, I noticed on one of my house cameras that when moving forward after Braking that sometimes the light bar flashed Yellow first then red when applying brakes. It happens frequently, but not everytime. Has anyone experience that or can check their OBT7 lightbars. Have someone stand behind and watch as you move forward a little and apply brakes.
Now that you about a year later how is it holding up in the weather and car washes? That is my only concern is that I wash my truck multiple times a week and don’t want to add something that is not bullet proof. Thanks in advance for your thoughts. Cheers
It’s been amazing! I see so many partially burnt out light bars. This one is so good and durable. Here is a short video from today! ru-vid.comTxjxfFH56nw?feature=share
Hey Don i just had a Light Bar installed yesterday and i think they tapped into the trailer, which i didn't think that was right now i have trailer errors, the bar not working properly its a straight mess man
Does your truck have the side cameras that are activated when you give a turn signal while pulling a trailer. If so will they activate without pulling a trailer after you installed this light bar?
Good question. It does have the feature but only works when a trailer is connected. Since the light bar is using the Putco Blade harness, I am not tapping into any of the trailer sensing circuits; Therefore the cameras don’t come on when signaling.
Just received my PUTCO Blade LED Tailgate Light bar for my 2022 GMC 1500 Sierra SLT. I haven’t installed it yet due to living in the northeast (Snow & Ice) & Also NOT having a garage lol I’m looking forward on getting at it though soon hopefully. I will be using this video as guidance as well when I do but I just have two questions (for now): - I’ve seen comments on the Additional comments on the Quick Connect Harness. I thought the light bar already came with one but you mentioned you had one already installed. My question is if I am to get a quick connect harness which one would you suggest now that it’s 10+ Days past the video. - Do they make waterproof quick connects that you’d suggest if that’s even a thing? Again awesome videos & very informative for those of us (Me) who are clueless but trying to save money from the dealership having to install them.
Late comment, but they make electrical grease for connections like this. The blades don't come with a quick connect, well they do but you plug it into the tow plug. But if you want to go factory look- you'll need the harness or tap into the oem harness
Good video , been thinking about getting this , but wonder; if it needs to be serviced under warranty who pays shipping ? I seen where other folks have had to pay $50 dollars to ship their light bar( different brand) to company for repair , something that costs over $200 to buy it should include shipping costs to manufacturer if it fails due to defective manufacturing
Man this is the best light bar. Got it installed looks great till I closed tail gate. In the middle it just clips the light bar bracket. I measured each end and thought it would be straight, but nope. I used the stickies any ideas how to get the middle stickies down down or loose?
@@Donslife Thanks Don I got it. I tried it shortcut by leaving the tailgate hooked up cause more problems than it was worth I need to redo it. For now it's working good though.
I am working in something currently. A video can take weeks or months planning and waiting for parts. I can’t always return things easily without huge shipping costs
So I have the recon model on my 22 silverado... I just noticed my brake light is delayed with my actual brake lights. I tired to watch your "in action" demo but could never tell if you had that delay or not. Do you know if yours is in unison? I just did a video of mine so I'm about to ask recon about it. It doesn't look good if it's not coming on together imo
I checked every way the light bar is triggered to come on and I am happy to report there are no perceivable delays. Tested: Unlock, lock, reverse, signal left/right, brakes, lights on off from the main switch. All good, no delays.
Did you have any issues with the “ park assist” not working properly after installing putco blade? I installed it a couple of days ago. I bought the plug and play wiring harness. It’s probably just a coincidence.. but when I start my AT4. The park assist switch will be illuminated. As soon as I shift vehicle into drive, error msg saying park assist is disabled will appear. This msg often appears when sensors are blocked by snow or mud, my truck is clean and no obstructions on sensors. I am just curious if you have heard of this issue before?
I have only had over sensitive parking sensors on the front of the truck due to snow, ice and mud. I can’t say I have had any problems with this light-bar so far
@@Donslife I didn’t think it would cause an issue. I just thought I would ask. The large wiring harness is a pain in ass to reconnect. I probably just need to disconnect and put some Di-electric grease on it. Thanks for quick response
Putco's products are way way overpriced. I was floored when I viewed their site. For example I saw mudflaps on their site for $300. Ya- no thanks. However those lights do look great and I admit I'm a lighting freak, it's just better to go the cheaper route for the same products.
