Great video, as always, and loved the 80s synth nostalgia! I envy you for owning a DX7! Also, good to learn about the scope and quality of Logic’s stock synths :)
Thanks a lot bro. I’m glad you recognise the significance of the DX7. It’s a landmark piece of kit in music history. I really appreciate the great feedback on the videos too. Bless 🙏🏾
erm... Logic´s (very old) vsti synths like ES2, ES2 etc. sounds a bit 90s plastic oldschool. I´m not really a fan of this stuff. There are so much better thirdparty synths in these days.
I hear you and agree somewhat, but as someone who is migrating from using Windows and Ableton and having pirated dozens upon dozens of third party plugins and synths-I especially liked to chase plugins that are aesthetically appealing or looks simple or pretty-when I got my Mac and chose to switch the logic pro and not pirate anymore, I opened the es2 synth or whatever one has that spinning disc in the middle with many of the presets, and I literally screamed because it was such a jump scare. The rest of Logic Pro's interface is so opposite of these UFO looking evil things. But at least for me, and there are a lot of people like me, I think I really need to go back to the basics and learn these because these actually sound really good to me. There's something really refreshing about how unedited they sound.
Often the gems are right in front of us but we just need to dig down just a little bit to uncover the true value of what lies before us. Cheers for your excellent feedback Tom.🙏🏾
Great point. For a non guitarist like myself the guitar effects are plenty but for a real player then as you said 3rd party plugins work seamlessly. Thanks for your comment. Cheers 😀
You are very welcome Tom. I’m glad you see the point of the video and recognise the fact that there is a ton of resources available to us to tap into right there in Logic. Cheers 👍🏾
Nice one Tim. I have to agree with you. We just need to take time to explore and discover the incredible possibilities these tools offer. Thanks a lot for your great feedback. Cheers 😀 Duce.
First of all I just wanted to say thank you for your positive feedback on my content. I’m very grateful 🙏🏾 Secondly I’m afraid I do not have an iPad that can run Logic for iOS so sadly I’m unable to check and advise on how to access the synths. Hopefully someone else will have a solution. Cheers 😀
@@MTTCif you ever find yourself on an iPad - while you are creating a new midi track - the synthesizers are tucked away under the drop down menu for patch/ instrument - then when you select synthesizer from there - it was really hidden away - keep up the great work!
iPad synths for Logic are similar Alchemy EMF 1 (FM Synth) ES E (Ensemble Synth) ES M (Monophonic Synth) ES P (Polyphonic Synth) ES1 (Synthesizer 1) ES2 (Synthesizer 2) EVOC 20 PS (Vocoder Synth) Sculpture (Modeling Synth) Retro Synth
Thank you so much for this breakdown! I've been stressing hard on synth arrangement for an original piece, and I feel like I've gotten closer to figuring it out after watching this. I need to take a step back, take a breath, and really take some time to check out what each of these synths have to offer. In particular I was looking for a DX-7 sound like Toro y Moi uses, but never knew Logic had a stock synth that models that same sound. Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction!
I’m so pleased that the video has been helpful to you. There is just so much under the hood in Logic Pro. Keep digging my friend and you will not be disappointed I’m sure. Cheers 😀
Man huge thanks for this, I play very basic keyboards as a guitar player that I am and i was completely lost with what I had at my disposition in Logic. Cheers from Berlin 😁
So glad the video has been helpful to you Walter. Logic is loaded with so many tool which far too often go overlooked. Dig in and enjoy sir. Cheers from the UK 😀🇬🇧
Thanks for the great overview. i am diving back into it after a 8 year break away. I have paid for the full version upgrade and was thinking about getting a moog phatty and or roland sh101. The 101 is clearly covered here and i hope to find a goos sub bass like I wish stevie wonder. Cheers
Wow 8 years, that’s a long break! But you will not be disappointed diving back in now my friend as Logic is jam packed with some amazing production tools that will most certainly meet your phat synth needs. Dive in and explore as there’s just so much under the hood. Cheers for your great feedback 👍🏾😀
Believe me my friend you really can’t go wrong with this DAW. Just too much great stuff in a single app. So glad my video was helpful. Cheers for the feedback 😀 Duce.
Thanks for the [Mental Unlock]. I didn't know there was so much fun waiting under the hood of logic pro x. I thought you can only find this much joy in purchasing external instruments. $200 vs. $Thousands...No brainer! Your simplicity in setting the stage of discovery, is by far the best video I've seen to unlock one's passion to explore. Bless-up and 1-💜ve to you and yours from the West Coast of North America. ☮👈🙏👉Shalom.
Thank you so much for your fantastic feedback. I’m so glad the video has helped shine a light on the wealth of discovery that awaits you. For a one-off lifetime $200 investment you get the equivalent of thousands of dollars worth of high quality virtual instruments and audio processing that I couldn’t have dreamed of when I started out on this journey over 30 years ago. But right there at your fingertips the treasures are sitting. Dive in my friend 😀 Blessings from the somewhat miserable rainy South East of England 🏴. Thanks again 🙏🏾
Been searching for the ESM sound for so long, cheers man this is a huge help. Been trying to get that kinda chilled Mac miller vibe going on for ages so this is gonna be sick
is there a difference between analog synths and digital synths? apparently they use square saw traingle wave forms etc. but is there a difference in quality?
This is a great question. There is a big difference between analog and digital synths. With analog the tones or sounds are generated using old school electronic components such as capacitors, diodes, resistors and integrated circuits ICs (my dad was an electrician in the 70s and 80s so I had be also 😂). These components work together to create sound when a voltage is passed through the circuit. With digital synths although the built in oscillators produce different waveforms as you have said the tones are processed digital ie as 1s and 0s. This is then passed through a DSP chip or circuit which allows manipulation of the sound. Finally the signal goes through digital to analog conversion so it can be heard by us humans. I own both analog and digital synths and love each and every device I’ve bought. However a well designed and spec’d digital synth will win out every time for me as you get fantastic analog emulation along with the awesome power , flexibility and manipulation features of advanced digital technology. I know it’s a long answer but I’m big on synth technology as I grew up playing analog units before digital were even on the market. I still own the grand daddy Yamaha DX7 which I bought in 1985. Hope this helps 😀
Just watched this video on this very topic, and I thought the discussion was very reasonable and open-minded: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-NrCjtVZZLTw.html
