I’ve never been a manga guy. I watched these two episodes to support and because I value your opinion but I have to say I’m gonna have to check some of these out. You’ve genuinely sparked my interest.
Good Night Pun Pun !?? I’m elated that series is on your list . I started it in 2016 and fortunately the content blends perfectly with my philosophical and existentially bleak outlook on life !
Hey Omar, I just got into comics and have been binge-ing your videos recently. I have read some manga though, and One Piece might be my favorite story, its epic world-building and characters have made me laugh and cry. As a suggestion, I recommend looking into the Gundam Origin hardcovers if you haven't read those.
Great video and list! My Top 10 are: Berserk, Akira, Pluto, Nausicaa, 20th Century Boys, Monster, Vagabound, Higurashi when they Cry, Made in Abyss and Promised Neverland
THANK YOU for doing these two videos. i , thanks to your previous videos, have dipped my toe in trying different manga. So far, so good. I know I will be referring back to both videos repeatedly in the future. There is so much product out there that intelligent and enthusiastic appraisals are appreciated. I vote "yes" on all of the manga topics you threw out and would enjoy seeing similar videos from Tina, Melanie, Maddie and others.
Yes to the hidden gems and short run manga. Those sound like great ideas Omar. I found your channel because of your top 10 and hidden gems from Image. Maybe a whole new crowd will find this UNCANNILY GREAT channel from the manga videos.
Great video. I want to read many of these longer ones "Blade of Immortal" "I am Hero", etc. But they are so long. Maybe someday they will be on kindle. I would like to see your hidden gems or list of shorter series (like 1, 2, 3 or 4 books each). Also, I am interested in comics that would be good to start kids on, to get them hooked.
My favourite 10 is 1. Berserk 2. Alita battle angel 3. Demon slayer 4.Drifting classroom 5. Tokyo Ghoul 6. Uzumaki 7. Death note 8. Vinland Saga 9. One punch man 10. Lone wolf and cub
When you mentioned 20th century boys in honourable mentions i was shouting Pluto! And lo and behold you answered. I have read so few manga im no expert but pluto was absolutely phenomenal. Im going through the ultimate collection of 20th century boys right now and that is shaping up great too.
I’m picking up all of these awesome manga. I’ll start with Gon, and go up. I’m actually 10, but I have read the Killing Joke and not be traumatized. Also, how would you rank the characters in marvel horror omnibus, Omar?
Awesome list, I think I’m going to try and hunt down as many of these as I can since you definitely seem like you know what you’re talking about in these two videos and what a better way to jump into manga
Gotta say, it's interesting to see a different pov on manga across the pond: we mostly don't care for oversized expensive editions (unless they're reprints and the original ones are in print), nobody would buy a flipped manga (maybe you guys wouldn't either these days), I guess omnibus editions wouldn't sell either. That being said, very good selection, I thought you would have put a Nagai Go title in the mix, but I guess I was wrong. Cheers.
Whereas for me I struggle to read standard size XD If it's not at least 8inches I have a hard time enjoying it, feels like I can't see the art XD I'm also fine with flipped. When I first started reading manga they were always flipped, so it's just not a big deal for me. Right to left, left to right all good with me. Just print them bigger and hopefully hardcover and I'm happy. But as you said, just different points of view is all :)
@Kunoros Hound of Athreos They really are x_x Can't enjoy it if I feel like I have to squint to see the art. So I'm glad that the bigger printing is getting more common. Been gratefully switching out some of my books for re-releases and hoping for a couple more to get re-released in a larger trim too xD
@Kunoros Hound of Athreos Even if I could read them the fact that they're smaller is an instant pass for me XD But not being able to read them would make the purchase a waste of money even if they were bigger.
Good list, have you read or heard of Kingdom? I know there's no official english translation ( you can only read it online) and I feel like that's why not a lot of people mention it in their top list and doesn't get the recognition it deserves here in the U.S. That's one of my favorite mangas of all time. Love for you to check it out. Have a great day and be safe
I'm definitely picking up "Goodnight Punpun" after this one. Omar, have you read anything by Jiro Taniguchi? His work is different from the most modern manga, but it's really serene and beautiful, check it out if you haven't yet.
Great manga recommends: check. JAPAN! joke: check. Omar being Uncanny: check. Well thank you, good sir, for yet another informative and entertaining video!
Hi Omar, I'm picking up the new Maison Ikkoku Collector's Edition, Vol. 1 as my very first manga. I'm getting this because of you mentioning this title in multiple videos about how beautiful a story it is. I'm very much looking forward to my first manga.
If you a fan of Urasawa Naoki, you should check his latest masterpiece: Billy Bat. It’s as good as 20th Century Boy, Monster, and Pluto. Great list btw. Can’t argue with your choice although i never read a couple of them like Twin Spica, Musishi, Punpun, and Maison Ikoku.
This was an excellent list. Very diverse, with selections that cover a wide range of genres and time periods. Thanks for including Alita - I loved that series as a teenager and have recently been collecting the deluxe editions which are gorgeous. Also, thanks to a few nudges from this channel, I've ordered the Akira box set :D All I know is the movie so I'm very excited to read that series for the first time.
Need to read more manga, i guess - there's some gorgeous looking stuff in that list. Probably getting that new Blade of the Immortal deluxe now, also very interested in Uzumaki + Vinland Saga. Already reading Berserk atm, of course + loved the Alita box set!
I am so happy to find your channel , all the anime related channel mostly cover animes and rarely manga ........!! I hope I can get it delivered to India too
My list so far would be about that: Gundam The Origin Zetman Eden It's a Wonderful World Akira Lone Wolf and Cub Neon Genesis Evangelion Rurouni Kenshin Naruto Saint Seiya I'm planning on reading Adolf and Nausicaa soon
My heart is so happy that Fushigi Yugi got an honorable mention. It and Inuyasha were my first series way back in the left to right days haha. It was such an important part of my childhood and I've read it countless times haha. :) It was popular back in the day but I feel like it's been forgotten and is totally unknown to the current kids of today which makes me sad. Viz needs to reprint it in a OHC.
Last but not least...PLUTO!!! So much heart in this story with robots acting much more humane than actual humans!! I was expecting so much this one to make it in your list, that i caught myself laughing when i saw it as your last entry. ps : where is usagi yojimbo? 🤪
Every time I see someone talk about Punpun, I remember how much of a wild ride that series was. Something I’m glad I read but never want to read again. Beyond depressing
My top list is easily: Slam Dunk, Dragon Ball, Ranma 1/2, Sailor Moon, Battle Royale. Oldies, but they're all absolutely goats of their respective genre's, and the ones that made those genres so popular to this day. Unbeaten!
Love seeing Maison Ikkoku on this list! It's a classic that not a lot of people talk about. Also, Great Teacher Onizuka is a great manga that fit well here.
Yes, please more manga. I am new to the genre but would benefit from you since you have been into it for so long. I just picked up that Tokyo Ghoul box set, love it so far but wish it was a larger format like Hellsing.
Yes, you included Goodnight Punpun! 🙌🏻 My top 10 manga: 1. Made in Abyss 2. Bastard (manhwa) 3. Aku no Hana 4. Goodnight Punpun 5. Onani Master Kurosawa 6. Shoulder a Coffin Kuro 7. Yotsuba&! 8. Monster 9. Ibitsu 10. Misumisou (Hepatica Nobilis)
@@NearMintCondition It's the other way around, because I think the manga started in 2012 and then the anime was made in 2017, but the manga is still ongoing though (about 8 volumes out so far) so yeah the manga is quite far ahead of the anime, if that helps :)
I was probably too late but let me post My list My favorite manga in no particular order 1. Green blood 2. Hide out 3. A trial of blood 4. Monster 5. Pluto 6. Tomie 7. Uzumaki 8. Rainbow 9. Climber 10. Osayami pun pun 11. My hero academia ( not a fan of entire series or the anime but last 80 chapters is an insane journey and that art work is just other worldly for me for almost 2 years I have been reading it on weekly basis there's no single bad chapter there's not even single bad panel or page he draw as far as I remember and crazy thing is he never really took that many breaks in that time period he's just pumping chapters after chapters every week with great art. Also mha is my first manga he made me fall in love with manga as art form so there's that aspect to it. I remember myself trying to pick other manga but dropped them because I was not pleased with the art work until I found out some other great artists later because horikoshi set the bar way high for me and was a powerful introduction to the medium. I have to mention and explain this because lot of people don't like seeing mha in top 10 lists and gets pissed off easily when they see it)
I want to say that everybody should give a chance for Attack on Titan The latest chapters OH man Amazing, so deep and amazing P. S. And also ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA Jo joooooooooooooooo Have a nice Weekend Omar Greetings from Germany 😉😉😉😉😉😉😉😉
Another great choices man :) watching this list reminds me that i still need to make time to read some of these, i bought the alita box set a while ago and it's still sealed because i have a giant backlog :( and little time but i will make time for sure this year
Hola Omar! I would like to see the hidden gems manga video. Also, do you know if the deluxe edition of Blade of the Immortal will follow the left to right format or is it going to be like a traditional manga? I want to read that series a lot, but something about reading it from the left doesn't feel right. I guess when I think about manga, I immediately think right and for comics, left. One important manga in my list would be Naruto, mostly because of the emotional connection to it. Take care!
Hey have you considered making a “Japanese only manga top list”, also I’m sure your aware of it…but have you read all the old Spider-Man japan only stuff? I’m planning a trip to japan and that on my hunt list 😅
@@NearMintCondition I’m gonna import and translate it and make some videos, I’ll sign up and dontate enough on Patreon one day and maybe we can discuss it if your down :)
I am happy Pluto just made it but monster , vagabond and 20th century didn’t make it I am upset but it’s your opinion and so happy uzumaki made it it’s a short story masterpiece
@@NearMintCondition Yh I understand man but for me I would put monster because Johan liebert is one of the best antagonist in manga/anime probably only Griffith comes close but friend and Pluto are both good villains to
I read Pun Pun in fan translation, oh my GOD! So crazy. Here's some other fan translation manga I've come across: Velvet Kiss--This was released by Digital Manga and is ridiculously expensive. Read the fan translation. A man gets trapped by an enormous debt and is forced to practically babysit a spoiled heiress. Poor baby. Sexy and dark. Yokohama Shopping Trip by Hitoshi Ashinano. Can a post-apocalyptic story be gentle and sweet? Touch and H2 by Mitsuru Adachi (Also, Q & A, Miyuki, Katsu!, et al). I think one of the greatest shames in manga is that almost none of Adachi's work has been officially released, only a couple of volumes of his short stories (Short Program) and the excellent series Cross Game. H2, Cross Game, and his most recent series Mix are all slice of life baseball titles that are almost in a sense remakes of Touch for each generation (Touch came out in the 1980s, H2 in the 1990s, Cross Game in the 00's, and Mix in the 2010s, though Mix is actually a true sequel to Touch). You probably only need to read one of his baseball series, but each series is just different enough to be worth a read if you dig the artwork. A Silent Voice. This one's been released in America, as was the well received movie. The original short story version is still only available in fan translation, though. Shuna no Tabi (Journey of Shuna) by Hayao Miyazaki. Full color manga featuring a prototype of Yakul from Princess Mononoke. Is this the darkest story Miyazaki's ever written? Maybe. Dounika Naru Hibi (Happy Go Lucky days) by Takako Shimura. Collection of semi-erotic short stories that was adapted into a movie that was just released in Japan.
Yo, Omar! Your video for Maison Ikkoku seems to be gone, so I hope you don't mind if I ask my question here. In regards to the Viz Graphic Novel version, the flipped one, is it true that the chapters are in a different order? Or is it simply that a few chapters got omitted? Thanks so much for any help :)
I love manga; i try to make reviews about obscure series myself on this channel. But, my top five definitely isn't obscure; my top five goes something like this: Vinland Saga, Berserk, Girls Last Tour, Akira, Monster
@@NearMintCondition man, Girls Last Tour has some of the best and unique art out of any manga. Such a heartwarming & emotional story w/ one of the best endings out there. Low cost & time investement too at only 6 vols. published by yen press, still in print.
Oh I wish they released more manga in big books like Nausicaä. So pretty. But please never mention Battle Royale again. The 4 deluxe editions on the top of my wardrobe mock me daily when I wake up and the first thing I see when I open my eyes is that there is no 5th volume up there.
I haven't read much manga obviously as you but my favourite manga of all time is one piece, followed by Berserk,20th century boys,Uzumaki,Tokyo ghoul, Pluto.I never could like dragon Ball z as much as I thought I would it seemed too focused on fights without much story
Keep it minty , need advice just bought 1-16 of hitman reborn had 1 ,3, 10, 10 years later completed the English set How to get the the other volumes in English? , print out the scans and custom bind ?
Oh man, those volumes have been out of print for years. I don’t have any more of mine as I just sold them last year to make room for more books. I’d say keep an eye on eBay for sure.
We needed Deluxe Editions of Battle Royale, Trigun, Twin Spica, Gon, Mushishi, Black Jack, Sanctuary, Lone Wolf and Cub, Oh, My Goddess!, Gunsmith Cats, Astro Boy, One Pound Gospel, Kurosagi Delivery Corps, Buddha, Message to Adolf, as well as Please Save My Earth, like yesterday.
To: Uncanny Omar! Great Video! Since I’m NEW to Manga, please, please, please, DO HIDDEN GEMS 💎 videos! Of different titles to try, of various genres, and with your usual flair, tell me / us...WHY...I should read that specific tittle. What makes it a great worth while story!? If any You Tuber could do this with Manga, it’s you and ‘Riley - The Omnibus Collector.’ The other channel I found, through Near Mint Condition. - Thank you. (Ps) Again! Loved the inset window, where we see you talk to us...but feels more like your speaking WITH us. Great Video Editing!! Extra points on your growing Video Editing Skills...Young Jedi!! Great ‘Shout Out’, let’s see a MANGA LIST CHALLANGE..!! YES..!!
@@NearMintCondition I have almost finished Death Note , my 1st manga I am thinking I should go for Akira or one punch man I like short series with a good amount of text in each volume, what do you recommend?
What would be a good first Manga? I‘ve read One Punch Man but it was so boring I only read the first volume... So something like Naruto is probably nothing for me. I thought of Akira or 20th century boys?
@@NearMintCondition You put me on to a handful of manga through this series so thank you for making it! Its okay if some of my favs didnt make it, most of em did!
