Hello, I am also an avid Japanese MJ angler in the Philippines. Yes you are correct. DUO REALIS Jerkbait 100DR is the Best plug. It's also good for Papuan black bass. As far as softbait, I prefer KEITECH SWING IMPACT and CRAZY FLAPPER.

What rods and reels would you recommend for jacks ?

Depends on the structure you’re looking to fish. For tight structure with many potential snags, you’ll want to fish slightly heavier in both. A 4000 size reel with plenty of drag pressure (10kg+) and a rod around the 5-9, 6-10kg range with a heavy action. You need to turn the head of the fish to get it out of the structure. 30-50lb fluorocarbon leader to cope with the abrasion of said structure. Many Gold Coast lakes hold mangrove jack, but you can afford to fish lighter (2500-3000 reel) given the relative lack of structure. That being said, they always have somewhere to hide.
