This is my favorite origins video now. The humor is spot on, and you just talking about this game makes me wanna play it! I've never played the Mario kart arcade games and I didn't care about that games until you started making videos on them. These games look so much fun, I hope Nintendo ports them to the switch!
It might have just been me, but one thing that made this game especially fun for me (it was added to the bowling alley near my cousins' home) is this: RUBBER BANDING (DONE RIGHT). From what I could tell, when you're in first, the CPUs behind you rubber-band, but when a CPU is in first, YOU rubber-band, so it's not unfairly biased. The effect this ended up creating was that there was always action going on which made it much more fun, and never felt unfair because the rubber-banding rules were applied equally to both you and the CPUs rather than being in favor just of the CPUs. That way, it never felt like they had an unfair advantage, but also ensured that the game never got kinda boring where I'm just front-running the entire time. It was constant racing action from beginning to end.
Yes. In multiplayer as well, the finishes are always super close. You're never really sure you're going to win until you've crossed that finish line. It makes for fun gameplay because the races are always tense :-)
I LOVE MKGPDX I used to play it all the time when I was able to go to the Arcade. I hope they release it on Switch because I'm so tired of waiting for Mario Kart 9. Also Congratulations on 8K Demeech!
This game is unusually common in the UK. I've played it a ton. It's the only good Mario Kart arcade game imo. The others are pretty underwhelming past the novelty factor. But this holds up pretty well. There was actually DLC for this game with new tracks. But the arcade owners never do it so it seems limited to japan, so I've never seen it. The game also has online capabilities which is neat.
Namco Circuit is my fav Mario Kart track of all time... BRING THIS MASTERPIECE BACK! Also, I feel the Mk Arcade games give the Mario franchise a lot more love than the mainline Mk games do (more creative Mario references throughout the increased item selection, Mario-themed arcade tracks include a greater amount of iconic set-pieces than most mainline tracks do, etc.)
Sadly, I don’t think this game will release on console. What I think will happen is that they’ll take ideas from it and from Tour to make Mario Kart 9. Basically MK9 will be like a MK Ultimate.
@@Demeech I hope Mario Kart next Mario Kart gets Pacman yes I'm playing this game right now on my Wii U with my gamepad playing an underrated game on an underrated console
I've been playing this game nonstop when I am at an arcade. I always see the little kids struggling to get first place and smashing that item button, as well as not drifting, but I ended up playing it like I know what I'm doing. It along with Jurassic Park the Arcade are the arcade games that I know what's going to happen.
Nice overview of the game. This game and Mario Kart Arcade GP are the only Mario Kart Arcade games I played. Unfortunately did not get the chance to play Arcade GP 2. What's more, Mario Kart Tour took an inspiration from this game, the driver-kart-glider selection method, although in this game it is randomized. Awesome review, Demeech!!
Thank you so much! GP 2 adds two new tracks and two characters along with new karts and items and most importantly Justin! Otherwise it's the same game.
Someone finally mentioned the excessive head-bobbing. Is it just me or does Tropical Coast's theme sound like Katamari Damacy? MARIO GETS A FREAKIN' F1. Metal Mario became metal in the final verdict. I wish it wasn't as scarce in the UK.
Waluigi was on a mission to find his license during the Mario Kart 7 era! It took him SO LONG to find it, that he never found it until Mario Kart Arcade GP DX was released in Japan!
I have actually played this game a good few times! I've been able to play the Pac-Man cup, but not the DK cup yet unfortunately... And actually about the tracks, I think all the arcade tracks (from GP 2 and DX) would be REALLY good for Mario Kart Tour. Given their length, layout and colorfulness, I think Tour is the perfect fit for them and it will give that game a huge breath of fresh air imo. Tho, however MK9 turns out, I wouldn't be opposed to having them there heh. But yeah, I think this Mario Kart is super underrated too and it's definitely really great! Awesome video on it. Also, I'm probably the only person in the world that really wishes Koopa Troopa, Boom-Boom, Birdo and Rex (as the one weird character they usually do) were playable in GP DX hehe.
@@atroopa6288 Yeah. I think that he only way we'll get a true localization is by somehow extracting the American version's contents, replacing the Japanese voicelines, patching the written text, and getting someone who does a good Jack Merluzzi impression.
@@Demeech What are you talking about? I *love* Pac-Man's new model design! It matches his appearance in Pac-Man Party. But hey, at least I like both Pac-Man models in both Mario Kart Arcade GP 1/2, and Arcade GP DX.
R.I.P. GA Pac 2013 - When Demeech noticed him All jokes aside, I do prefer the original design but the GA design is nowhere near as bad as the Atari 400 box art
Gosh I really want to play this Mario Kart as it looks much more colorful and fun than 8! (Switch port plz) Also the tank mode reminds me so much of Crash Tag Team Racing, where you could clash into another driver and combinate their cars into a version in which other contorls the vehicle while the other blasts off other drivers with their own special weapon that comes with their car. Fun fact: the commentator in this game is actually voiced by Ash Ketchum's Japanese voice actress Rika Matsumoto.
I'm sorry, but I like the new Pac-Man design from Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures in my opinion. And need to remind you that I always play Mario Kart Arcade GP 2 in my computer? Yeah, I have some good memories.
I've literally started playing this game today on Teknoparrot, unfortunately I have no way of playing it in cabinet form because in Italy we don't have any of them, but I've always wanted to try this game and it was always so hard to set up but I finally did it and god I'm glad I did cause so far it's my favourite Mario Kart game no doubt
I feel Namco should've done more with their Namco character roster in these Mario Kart Arcade games. Like they don't just have to resort to just Pacman characters in there. I know they included another character here, but here are other Namco characters that would be awesome to include here: Mappy, Dig Dug, Mr. Driller, Pooka from Dig Dug, One of the Meowky gang from Mappy, boss cat Goro from Mappy, Bravoman, Wonder Momo etc. So many great Namco characters they could've added in these Mario Kart Arcade Games. I would love to play as Mappy in a Mario Kart game.
I'm a Dave And Busters member, it's five minutes away from my house, and I use my wrist band. Mario Kart and Luigi's Mansion are easily the best games there.
I played this game on vacation just last year, and was pleasantly surprised. I'm not sure what I expected but in the short time I had, it was pretty fun. (I just wish I knew how to play the game better!)
I played this once at an arcade and had a blast. In the past, I actually tried to play it on my computer and yeah, I didn't get too far because it was really confusing.
You roasting my boy Pac-Man in this version of the game. That was so uncalled for😡😡😡😡😡😡😡. I like his design from ghostly adventures it’s more cooler than his old style counterpart.
I've genuinely considered trying to track down and buy a cabinet for myself but even if I could find one I'd have no space for it. Yeah I could emulate it but 1. it's not the same and 2. Arcade emulation is also a headache.
We were wrong this whole time... Pink Gold Peach wasn't the worst Mario Kart Character, nor Peachette... It's Ghostly Adventures Pac-Man and forever will be.
*beep beep* Here comes a guy that actually loves the GA Pac Man design. You guys argue in the comments I won't bother arguing anymore other than what I said
Next time I go to the Dave & Buster's here in Austin, I'll keep that in mind. Though I don't remember which MarioKart arcade game they have. What I do know for sure is that they have Luigi's Mansion arcade in there (unless they removed it after summer 2019).
I think the best way to release this game would be an Arcade1up cabinet, they already got a steering wheel and pedals made, they also got games like Killer Instinct, so eventually they will have enough power to make it. It's up to Nintendo to release it.
@@Demeech It would be the closest you can get to the real thing. (Also I don't own any arcade cabinets of any sort, I just want an official DK cabinet)
im here in texas and i have one at our main event and it randomly picks your kart and items is that normal for all the us versions i hated that i want to pick my own cart THANK YOU!
I have played Mario Kart Arcade GP DX at Dave&Buster’s in Texas at baybrook mall, from I can tell it’s a good Arcade game and I hope there will be a switch port in the future.
While DX did expand on the Mario side of the roster which is great, and having Don-Chan there is also great, just him and Pac-Boy kinda takes away what made the Arcade games super special. I can understand Ms. Pac-Man's absence since she luckily didn't turn into Pac-Girl, but I don't buy Blinky and Mametchi being cut. I wouldn't be encouraging having Blinky in his, a-hem, Sonic-wannabe cherry-chasing dot-muncher design, but it was still there, and with Tamagotchi being a long-running franchise in Japan and its anime still airing at the time of the game's release, there were plenty of assets for Mametchi. And Pac-Man's mistreatment is a major drawback from Namco and Bandai's merger. From the years I've known the company, Bandai's business module was giving licenses preferential treatment, and giving the IPs they actually spawned & own the sloppy seconds. Tamagotchi has always suffered from this especially outside Japan, taking the backseat in favor of Dragon Ball, Power Rangers (which would luckily be subtracted from the list of hurdles after Hasbro got ahold of them), Naruto, etc. And Namco's library fell victim to this practice since 2005 because Bandai was the dominant company. Tekken, Tales of, Taiko no Tatsujin, and Katamari Damacy do sometimes get limelight, but Bandai's status quo makes the rest of Namco's portfolio lucky to even get mentioned, and they've since become mostly a scapegoat for games based on stuff Bandai holds licenses to. The Japanese THQ, in other words.
I never found a dx arcade in the uk. So if Mario Kart 9 happens, they should really add the arcade tracks to the game so more people can experience it.
My only con with this game is that daisy is only in the Japanese version, in the English version she’s not even there, other than that, it’s a pretty good Mario kart game
