I live in Merida, and I have the joy of having a supplier of cerdo pelon, it is really the waygu of pork, I cooked a Boston Butt roast yesterday with cerdo pelon meat, and it is amazing!! Actually in the Slow food market there is a women called Jennifer Underhill that sells this amazing meat, and also sells delicious lamb, all the meat is Local.
Every time I see someone's video on Chichen Itza, I feel so lucky to have visited it when you could still climb it. At the time I was a heartbeat away from having to have a helicopter get me back down, but step by step on my rear end, I avoided that. Amen. That is so much steeper than you can even imagine, the steps are so high and narrow. They were meant to be done from side to side if you know what I mean, someone probably told you that too.
They stopped allowing the ascents in the early 2000's, I believe. I climbed up the 1st time with my mom in summer 1994, but when I returned with both my parents and my wife in summer 2012 (yes, 6 months before "Doomsday" on Dec. 21st!), they had already roped it off for several years.

Maaaaan!!! It was so hard for my wife and I to leave Rosalia. Her entire family are so hardworking and sweet. The food was so good. Our hearts were as full as our belly. ❤

Great reporting that most tourist don't experience. About 30 years ago I ate at a similar restaurant at night, without electricity, and it was one of my best life experiences!

I visited Chichen Itza from Cancun some 40 years ago. You had so much more freedom to roam around back then. I was able to climb to the top of El Castillo and see the entire complex and nothing else besides trees for miles. Nothing was blocked off by the barriers that I saw in the video. It was touristy even back then but not nearly as bad as it is now. Glad that you got to enjoy your adventure 😊

So cool her restaurant is in the top 20! Wow has Chichén Itza changed! I went there in the 80’s and it was maybe $5 to get in. I think our bus to & from Cancun was $10 or $20 at the most. It was so amazing. OMG the scorpion - had a surprise scorpion at my friend’s house we were staying at in Cancun. They flushed it and it took several flushes. They were locals and had never seen one there before.
It's one of the things I will miss about Mexico as well! If you can Chef Rosalía's is a MUST DO for us now. We will definitely make the effort to dine with her again. We will be back in the states in 3 weeks, but I'm sure our paths will cross soon! Have fun on your trip! - Dennis ✌️
I’m glad you two are able to go places and show us who can’t go, so we cal see what it is like down there in Mexico. We have scorpions here in Oklahoma and they are little ones like the one you found. I grew up in India and we had a nine inch one in our house our two cats were found playing with it. Also walk out our frount door one time when I was 13 to a Komodo dragon. We saw small ones all the time because our cats would kill them and bring them home but this one was at least six feet.
The fees you pay at the ruins are used to maintain the piramids, grounds, pay the staff etc. So a good investment as far as I am concerned. Keep more of these amazing videos coming!

Thank you Sandor! I agree the out of the way private and personal experiences always seem to leave the strongest impression on us too. Now that we've done it. I would say that dining with Chef Rosalia and exploring Yaxuna is a MUST DO if you plan to visit Chicen Itzá or the Valladolid area. If not you will have missed a piece of living Mayan culture that is just as if not more exciting than any pyramid could hope to be. - Dennis ✌️
@@EatSeeRV to me the parts where you get to participate in and learn the cooking were highlights of this episode and and others like the cooking class you took. Most tourism is just sightseeing. Participation is almost always better.

Yes we loved our stay there. It was a minor sour experience that could happen anywhere. We definitely wouldn't let it take away from all the good in the city. And yes, handmade tortillas are the best! - Liz
There are 5 cenotes: one for each cardinal point and the last one recently discovered under "El Castillo" wich representes the mayan cosmogony. What is possybly to see now are the constructions from the toltecan influenced period from 900 AC to 1200 AC like "El Castillo" and "El Juego de Pelota". Chichen Itza has many constructions older
The pyramids and cenotes were awesome. Liz is the jumper! Always good to give thanks!! Strangest thing: Ok, not in our camper because we were tent camping; however, a skunk came through camp and decided to hang out. Guess what, you’re doing things on the skunk’s terms because you cannot yell at it, shew it away, or poke it with a stick. Ok, you can..........But, the consequences would be terrible. Luckily the skunk FINALLY decided to leave.
We really enjoyed this video (as usual)! Thank you. BTW - I would recommend Uxmal (closer to Merida) over Chichen Itza. It was a lot quieter and just as impressive.
There are scorpions in FL. When I was a kid we lived in southern FL (near Naples) and remember scorpions running into our house right thru the front door.
Another amazing adventure you can add to your growing repertoire. The experience at the restaurant eating the famous cochinita must have been out of this world. Wow. That scorpion looked c=scary...and I hope it was traveling alone. Thanks again for a wonderful journey. Great way to spend my coffee break traveling Mexico with you. 🙏 ❤️ 🌷 🙋♀️

Sorry Liz and Dennis! I just finished the video with that picture. I thought I seen it but didn’t. I watched and it was beautiful. I loved how that woman cooked on the underground. The food did look good. That picture was with you both and I don’t know her name (the cook). And was I believe where she cooks her food. I’m not sure if you ate it outside or inside her restaurant. The food did look great! I liked the pyramids all the artifacts was fascinating. That scorpion would scare me. We found a big ole spider in our Rv. But we have not seen any of yet. Thank goodness. Loved the video minus the scorpion. Lol! 😂 See you soon!
Chichen Itza has been one of my most memorable traveling experiences. Jan of 2000 you still could ascend to the top. Holy moly it was petrifying to descend. I literally had to do it on my butt! Awesome video kids! Your vlog just keeps getting better! Oh and scorpions - uh NO THANK YOU!

The reason why chichen itza is way more expensive is because only in Yucatan there is a state office called CULTUR that gets 50% of all the entrances, and the other 50% goes to the federation, and also chichen itza has a better infrastructure and a big museum.
@@EatSeeRV it was eating my peanut butter and dry pinto beans, we think when we were setting up camp the drawer was open and it got in about the 3rd day I could here something in the drawer I’d go open it and nothing finally the last day we were there I tip toed over to the drawer opened real fast and there it was looking at me he jumped out and ran in the bathroom we the got the broom opened the door to the camper and got him out with a few screams from me lol
We ate at Rosalia's, last week. We would not have found her, if it had not been for your vlog. The food is fantastic. The experience is well worth the price. But, according to food historians, pigs were introduced to Mexico by the Spanish in 1547. So the food does not have 1000+ year history as depicted. Something to keep in mind.

Here in Nevada and Arizona deserts we get scorpions all the time. In our house or RV. Besides that I have had mice and even a bat come in as we were driving in Georgia at night.
those tamales look like hallacas my boyfriends mom makes, they're Venezuelan, Venezuelan food is not spicy at all though lol. the Mayan ruins are on my bucket list, like so many other things lol

@@EatSeeRV Yep, even your Spanish writing skills are impressive, INCLUDING the accents and punctuation! Wow. You should try picking up French, Portuguese, and/or Italian. (Since my Mexican parents raised us bilingual Spanish/English, I picked up French quickly in high school and my sister picked up Italian in only 1 SEMESTER in college. I also picked up some pretty decent Portuguese ONLINE and have been told I speak fairly well by some native speakers!)
Google translate is essential for writing. I still have a long way to go before I'm fluent in Spanish. But I can get by. I need more time to practice regularly!
What I learned at Chichen Itza was that all the NFL teams mascots came from relics found at the site. They even had venders selling them there. Have you guys been to Coba yet?
Thank you! It's an INAH rule. They consider it "professional" filming equipment and the price to use it skyrockets. It's like that at every archeological zone. Some are just more relaxed about it than others. It's similar to the rules about filming in national parks in the US. It's worth the red tape and fees if you're Disney shooting a star wars episode, but not so much for us. - Dennis ✌️
Yes, we did that drive on the scooter! The roads are very nice between Yaxuna and Valladolid. Once you turn off 180 in Piste onto Calle 22 it becomes a tight 2 lane county road. The pavement is still nice, just watch out for the topes in the villages before Yaxuna. Enjoy! - Dennis
My son lives in north port Fl. They have had scorpions invasion from the neighbors wood pile?? One stung my oldest grandson it had gotten into his shirt😱😳. So you can’t say they aren’t in Fl.

Since I don't live in Mexico, I have no other Mex. ID to use, but I left my Mexican passport at the hotel and had to pay the full Sunday price for foreign tourists at Tulum ruins! Learned my lesson!
@@EatSeeRV Ha ha I was racking my brain trying to figure out how I could work that word into a comment. I looked up what attracts scorpions into houses and the website says "Moisture, Darkness/Lack of Lighting , Small insects that scorpions eat and Rotting wood/leaves".
