well, this is adding to the carbon footprint, it is just greenwashing. Also, why would we go to some of the most endangered places on earth? That will just make it worse. What a hypocrisy
Waiting for Rosberg v. Hamilton part deux. (Plot twist: They're both backmarkers) All seriousness, can't wait to see more of the series; the videos look great, and the cars look gorgeous.
looking at the concept, i hope Extreme E collaborate with Codemasters and implement their events in their racing games. i want to race on extreme conditions too! Do it please!
@@topikbagusid If they do make it, then it'd be nice if it was closer to that of the F1 games or PCars 2. A sort of simcade experience that can be both enjoyed by casuals on controller, or the more hardcore racers on their simulator rigs. Imagine an entire game based on Extreme E! That'd be pretty awesome. Even if they just add in the cars and maps onto the DiRT games then I'd still be pretty happy. All I want is to race these things in those exotic environments.
I really want to see more of the development of the St Helena. Global shipping is a huge contributor to ghg emissions, and I can't wait to see how that can be changed
I have about 2k hours in long travel sandrails, and I can honestly say all the technical problems I've faced have been engine/engine support, or electrical problems. Only 2 were semi suspension related. The fact that you could remove that many moving parts from the powerplant will make this sport even more exciting, illustrating more driving skills and decision making. Awesome.
covid is a scam the govs of the world are using this as an excuse to fuck the world econonmy in the name of health, well us the people have had time to analyse after now 8 months that covid is BS! I’m studying chemistry as my major in college and goal is to aid in the advancement of the car’s battery technology. I know hydrogen power has only been an idea but I will find a way to make this a viable contribution to the sport!
Of course you probably have more knowledge about all that stuff than I do, but with the information I've gathered it seems pretty unlikely to me that hydrogen power will become a viable option for cars. I do see a lot of potential for ships (especially for the long and flat ones which can have solar panels on them to create H2 on the go), but I don't think it'll be all that practical for cars. Of course if you have an idea on how to make it viable, then by all means go for it. For cars I think the future is more in solid state batteries. I've seen prototypes which can be cut and punctured without causing problems, and this is quite important for when a car crashes. Driving a car with a tank full of highly flammable H2 doesn't sound all that safe to me. I'm curious about your perspective on solid state batteries vs H2 :)
@@AnimilesYT Necessity is the mother of all inventions. That’s all I have to say. There have always been major risks and obstacles in the way of inventing or discovering anything really, but there still have been advances. Maybe we can’t now, maybe we can’t tomorrow, but it’s more likely that we will in the future than not, or we could find alternatives.
@@itsvizor171 We already have an alternative that is working pretty well and is heavily under development. They're batteries ;) I see a future in hydrogen, but I just don't think it will be the future for cars because of the alternatives. So I pretty much mostly agree with you :)
I really like the concept of this series and I'm really looking forward to when it starts. I think it has big potential to make people think about the problems in this world and help to make a change. But to achieve that i think you need to promote it way more authentic. This was hardly a compilation of the best moments so far, but rather a scripted documentary in discovery channel style. Please don't mess it up by letting it become a "show event". Keep it real.
i think it would be cool if the cars had a race or two on a beach that was previously littered with trash then the race could kind of be ceremonial of how they helped clean the beach/ocean
450kW sweet. 50kWh isn't a lot, but will do the job with the proper motor. It can recharge from 0% to 80% in 6 minutes, if the battery cooling is up to the task. I guess they might be using very high voltage for the system to lower some losses too. Crazy.
The gender equality thing is also something I really like. Men are better at racing than women, but as said in the video this is because men simply have more opportunities to develop their abilities. By forcing teams to have a male and female driver the female drivers get the chance to develop and the teams don't have a disadvantage compared to other teams. I hope more team sports take this approach. But also not only male-dominated sports. In volleyball for example I feel like women have more opportunities.
Forcing? Are you actively rooting for socialism? If you want real equality, especially in racing. Women should compete in the same league as men. And if we can agree that women and men aren't the exactly alike, then you could make separate leagues. But stop forcing this bullshit narrative on people that men and women aren't equally treated in Western societies. We should be more meritocratic: look at peoples qualities instead of downgrading them to a single element of their character such as color or sex/gender.
The nerves on these guys... LOL.... why the fuck are they promoting a W series then? They themselves are segregating people based on gender and they claim it to be women empowerment...
@@davidbabu1073 I do agree that this format isn't sustainable from a societal perspective since a form of sexism is a part of it. That said, the whole racing scene is even more sexist and it doesn't even allow women to become the best. This format, even though it's sexist, is a stepping stone for a racing series where men and women are seen as equals and do have equal chances. When that time comes the format has to change :)
All very nice banging on about how green this is shipping the cars around the world, but was wondering how the drivers and crew get to these places “WALK” 😂🤣
The only thing i disagree with is when people go here's a new event, part of the way we'll be carbon neutral is by not having x, y & z.... but there would be no need for x, y & z in the first place if the event wasn't happening, so y default of the events existence adds to the worlds carbon footprint anyway. i appreciate the bigger sentiment at play, but the math behind some of these things doesn't really stack up.
It looked nice. I even survived the over complicated rules. But after the 60s penalty because Nico’s team exceeded the w0 kmh speed limit the BS already started. I also wonder how many of the drivers realy give a toss about the environment.
Hey. The season hasn’t even started. But when it does, I’m going to start a racing series in Fortnite. Can you send me a peek of some track maps and with the terrain? Would mean a lot. I’m so excited
Extreme E has been superb so far and I only wish that its fantastic push on gender equality was supported by a commentary which didn't insist on calling adult women "girls". They're accomplished adult racing drivers, not kids!
Is it just me who isn't buying it ? How are they offsetting the carbon footprint extreem-e's mere existence is going to create? It will create a lot of awareness, but i think there is quite a lot of awareness already about climate change. I am trying to figure out the specific problem it solves.
I went to a FE race once and the sound was horrific. They sounded like louder electric RC cars. A riced out civic sounds better and doesn't hurt your ears as much.
Range? Recharge time to 100% for next race day? Do they plan to have a rapid change battery pack for real competition, guaranteed some else will if they don't. It's competition. No information was given for power usage verses speed or power consumed. I high doubt current battery technology and recharge abilities would allow this car to challenge petrol based vehicles. The energy density of petrol verses battery storage is just not there yet. But this is great start!!!! Eventually batteries will surpass petrol energy density per lbs. and the rapid recharge technology will eventually get solved as well. For example, Ultra4 unlimited competition carries on average 30 -35 gal of race fuel. nonscientific (not precise calculations) A gallon of gasoline will contain approximately 131,760,000 joules per gallon. A gallon of gasoline weights approximately 6.3 lbs., (2.858 Kg) Internal engines range in efficiency, but assuming a generic competition engine with a compression ratio of 15 and has an upper limit efficiency of 0.66. (not accounting for constant or variable fuel consumption rates) One kilowatt-hour is equivalent to the energy of 1,000 joules used for 3,600 seconds or 3.6 million Joules. In equation form: 1 kWh = 3.6 million J. The battery in this car weights 850 lbs. (their stated data) and has 450 Kw of energy, also they did not state the efficiency of the electric motor they used or its peak efficiency rpm range. So the weight is 385.555 Kg, so we have 1.167Kw/Kg. Gasoline in this example has 46,102,169.349 J/Kg, or 12.806 Kw/Kg. I fully know and can't wait for storage technologies to catch up and surpass gasoline. And with some of the newest technologies in the R&D departments now. There is a high potential for this to happen. How soon is unknown right now, but it will happen. I can't wait to see this. I have an old Porsche 911 RSR that was tweaked and puts out 340 HP for a car that wrights 1700 lbs. But am seriously looking at an electric conversion to drop a Tesla S P100 motor into it, giving 635 hp. and probably a bump is weight up to 2300 lbs. But the car will still be faster than with the gasoline engine. AS it is now almost impossible to drive every day because of noise and fuel requirements 100 octane. I know batteries will catch up and eventually extend the range of cars. So the conversion just makes sense for a car I want to drive without setting off alarms and attracting police every time I even start the engine, not to mention to expense of the engine now days, (in excess of $50K just to rebuild it). So it's a win win and the car will handle better than original because of better weight distribution. Keep it up guys I can't wait to see this sort of racing become more and more popular!!!!!!
Brazil’s Bolsonaro must of ok’d Exstreme E, yet it’s him who’s promoting deforestation and denied the forest fires as false. Double standards on the promo already.

Lets ruin these dangered, remote places by organizing a fun race for the rich, while the whole thing is marketed like this is a solution. How can people like this sleep at night?
I don’t see much potential in this. The more popular this gets, the more trees that will be cut down and land will just be taken over so how is this better?
Sorry to say, but this equality programme is not gonna help encourage female racing drivers. The junior categories of motorsport are there for a reason, not for boys only. Girls can compete if they meet the standard, and so far there haven’t been many who could, not the fault of anyone just how it’s turned out. But forcing half the field to be male and half to be female, you wouldn’t do it for racial groups or sexuality, so why do we need it for gender??? No diss to female drivers at all, but have it as an open championship, any age any gender if they’re good enough
@@nic10mil I mean, if they're gonna shove it down the viewers throat the whole time, then ya. But otherwise, I'm actually more interested in seeing what manufacturers do with electric rally cars.
@Lucia Montes yes I agree. I feel like if people really feel like it's gonna make girls uncomfortable, then we should leave it open to both genders (which could work anyways). But you have a great point
Max Verstappen's ex-girlfriend Mikaela Kottulinsky would be nice if she could be a driver not just Continental test driver and not to forget Carmen Jorda ex F1 Renault's test driver she is hot.
It is unfortunate that ship has a huge carbon footprint. Buying "carbon offsets" rings hollow and gives a false sense of being carbon neutral. You can't avoid the tons of CO2 and other harmful emissions that beast spews.
