Tell You all a story, Me and my best friend did a lap around America ride three years ago. We are at some town in Washington State we are at a well-known motorcycle motel. I had a lock like this I always just used out of habit. Next day we get up and his Indian is gone and mine is right where I left it, next room over is a husband and wife team and her Street Glide is gone and his with the cheap rotor lock is there. All it takes for a thief to move on is a lock of any kind and they move on to an easier target, at least that's my experience. Anything is better than nothing it seems
Thank you for mentioning the warped rotors. That's exactly what i was curious about and wanting to know. If these locks effect the health of the brakes in any way
Dont worry, that doesnt happen at all. Been using one of these for more than a year myself, never had a problem. (not the one reviewed, but a redesigned one from another brand, Tecklock is the name if you're interested)
I just picked this thing up for close to free and since there were no instructions included they sent me your video. Thanks for the explanation. I like that it's convenient to put in my bag while riding and gives just a little more security than locking the forks alone. I wouldn't pay the $60 it retails for though.
Glad i found your vid! Was gonna get this, but to wait 10 minutes just doesn't work. I'll keep using my disc lock, which has a loud alarm when moved in the slightest. You saved me $35!
I think this is a decent product to be used in conjunction with other locks such as disc locks. Anything that will take extra time to defeat will have would be thieves looking at easier targets. Professional thieves are going to take it no matter what you do.
Just got one for my bike (it's automatic) n going to try it on n see if it works... I threw away the plastic extras n gotta go soft thru TRASH.... 6:49pm October 8, 2020 Stay safe errrybody 😷
Ugh, I already ordered this but am just now realizing it’s not what I thought. I figured it would lock the clutch in an open position so you can park in gear and prevent someone from just putting it in neutral and rolling away. I don’t want to keep my breaks hammered down everywhere I go and there’s nothing to stop someone rolling the bike away if the clutch is already locked closed 🙄
My husband has two motorcycles a Harley and a Gixxer so it would be great for his bikes when we live in a not real good neighborhood thanks love the review
okay its a 5 years old clip - I just saw how easy it can be lockpicked with a special tool get for round 30€ and manually with standard lockpicking method...so i would say its not that secure and you can cut the breakwire as well, or you use it on the throttle side
Great looking lock and doesnt take up too much room. I could use something like this on my Honda CTX700 with dual clutch by putting it on the brake since I don't have a clutch lever. Love your videos!
I have one of these. Luckily the alarmed disc lock must have alerted people so they gave up, bit they just got rid of the lever mount screw and the lever went off pressure. Not sure if they could move it away, nonetheless, they didn't get away with my bike.
Hey Bryan. I would like one of these security locks because... I live in a town that is fairly bike heavy, and I'm also a new rider (I'm also 19 as well) and would love to have a nice starter lock. I love the design, and it would be pretty useful to me! Thanks.
Okay, just one question - WHO in their right mind parks their bike facing the slope? It's always either sidestand facing down, or center stand all the way, bike facing upwards as a minimum. Preferably at an angle to the slope.
Hey, that is awesome. I'd love to have one. I am using a cable lock presently but I know how easy that is to cut (even though I have a thick diameter cable...very heavy). However, I can't take it with me. So having the lever lock would be awesome to take with you when you are out and about. Thanks for the opportunity.
hey bryan i would like one because it is pretty good detorent and could buy you that extra min for someone to see or me to get back to my bike.....though i currently do not have a bike i plan on getting one and this would come in handy for a 1st time bike owner. plus red is my favorite color it looks really cool also
I would like one as it is a deterrent to avoid the average thief. I agree anyone with the right tools can defeat this but most thefts are avoided by making theft inconvenient and this device does do that.
Yeah, it wouldn't take long to cut the "hinge" on the lock, but that wouldn't allow the lock to flop open as you state, because of the design of the other end. With the lock pin in place and the angle of the two pieces at the lock end, the contraption would stay solid. Now, you could cut through some *other* part of the body of the lock, but that would take longer.
Hi Bryan Sorry to disagree, but I would not recommend this lock at all, just don't think its a good product. Disc lock, heavy duty chain in my opinion is the best.
Thank you very much for the review, I think this lock is ideal as a method of dissuasion and perhaps in conjunction with another lock installed on the wheels would be more effective. I have both and the handlebar is more like a reminder that I have to remove the lock from the wheel since on several occasions I have forgotten ... with the obvious results lol... like Dinky Dot said... anything is better than a kick in head lol
Lots of bikes stolen out here. Interested in this, have you heard of any other issues besides warped rotors with using on brakes? Heard there is some issue with brakes being "on" for long periods of time. (thinking this is still good for locking during day while out)
Made me think of "The club" for cars. Thick reenforced steel. The club! Lol. How about just cut the steering wheel and pull it off. Lol. Geniuses of the 80's
Dont get disc lock if you lock your bike overnight. Bike thieves can take the wheel out and remove the brake disc then put the wheel back amd drove off. It happened to me but lucky me, i took it back.
I would love to win one of these locks because I live in an apartment complex which doesn't have a garage, so I have to park my FZ-09 outside in the parking lot and hope that it doesn't get stolen. It is rather stressful and I always double check in the morning to make sure it's still there. I do have a bike cover which helps it from sticking out too much but some actual security would help put my mind at ease over it. Btw really love the channel, keep making great reviews/content!
Could you make an informative video about your recording gear and setup? Or direct me to a video you've made? Any tips and recommendations would be helpful. I currently have an older GoPro hero 2, Runcam 2, old möbius. I'd like to know your opinion on what to spend my $$ on. Thanks. I'd like to start recording some videos of my groups Mountain riding.
I would love one to make it just a little bit harder for thieves to take my bike. Hopefully they are dumb and don't see this video and learn how to remove it xD
and its got a tubular lock.... the most derided lock by people who deal with security on a professional level. theres a metric fuck-ton of videos showing how to pick that lock in under 20 seconds
Putting this brake lock on a clutch is wrong and dangerous. Putting it on a brake is also a major problem as you mentioned. Also it does not fit every bike such as my HD. So buyer beware it is far from the best lock. In my case was a waste of money.
That would allow them to roll the bike, but they would still have to defeat the lock to use the throttle. Still not my favorite method to secure the bike.
An 8-10 mm spanner will make this device useless within 5 seconds, undo the bleed nipple on the brake caliber and the thief is a way, this device isnt all its made out to be....
A bike theif would laugh if he saw this on a bike and would choose to steal this over a disklocked bike, all they would do is cut the brake line with a knife and that's it
BUT they said on their website that this is the BEST motorcycle lock........in the WORLD! hahahahaha. Teaches you to never trust ANY product advertised on FB or IG. Those sites attract all the scam advertisers.
This is some proper bulls*it. Probablly THE MOST UNSECURE lock ewer made. Regardles of how well it is constructed... there is no use if all you need to do is to just cut the clutch cable or the brake hydraulic hose.
That's a misconception. Most motorcycles are hotwired and ridden away. It's far easier to get away on a motorcycle that can do 180 rather than a van or a truck that tops out at 90 and is a million times wider than a motorcycle. That doesn't mean this lock is worth anything. Removing the level or cutting the lever is very easy.
