In the second ever episode of Getts Wild, Lauren, Dexter, and I hike Mt. Moosilauke in New Hampshire! Moosilauke is the 10th highest mountain in the Granite State at an elevation of 4,802 ft. It's name is derived from Abenaki Indian words "moosi" and "auke" that when combined mean "bald place". That's because the summit of Mt. Moosilauke is 100 acres of alpine tundra, with unobstructed 360° views of the surrounding White Mountains.
Some people say these are the best views in the state, and It's hard to disagree once you see why!

*Please Note* The foundation shown at 14:52 and described as a hotel foundation from the 1800s is actually the foundation from a much smaller winter cabin that was removed in 1979.

Did Moosilauke in the winter. Wind was incredible at the summit.50 to 60 steady with gusts up to idk. Sky was crystal blue. Love this mountain. Watching the vid makes me want to hit it in the warmer months. Didnt know about the Hotel, cool fact!

Hey David, thanks for watching! I've never done Moosilauke in the winter, but I want to try to get up there this winter and snowboard down the carriage road. I didn't realize it at the time, but the foundation that I show in the video is actually from a small winter cabin that was removed in 1979. The hotel actually existed in a different location long before the cabin and the foundation was made out of stone. I hope you get the chance to hike it this summer!

Along with the foundation of the hotel, there are a significant amount of old cut nails. These make perfect little souvenirs.Dexter is a great hiking companion. I may have a crush on Lauren. Nothing creepy, just want to take her to a local REI and spend hours buying her stuff. I won't mind if she keeps the receipt(s) and returns all or some of the gear. When I hiked Moosilauke the first 2 hours were traumatic. When you got above the treeline a whole new gear was found. There were about 25 people at the summit. A number of rocks have initials carved into their sides probably during the 1800's.. Hope to run into you guys up there, be safe and keep up there good work.

Moosilauke was the first of my 4000's, and I took the same loop route as you did, though last April, part of the Gorge Brook Trail was closed and rerouted via the Snapper. I agree- fantastic views from the summit! There was still about a foot of snow cover on the trail when I went, but it was well-packed. I was wearing a snowsuit that day, and when I went down the Carriage, there were a few spots I just sat down and let gravity do the work! Also, checked out your video of the Kinsmans. I took the Fishin' Jimmy trail up, a nice trail with some neat rock scrambles. When I got to Kinsman Pond, I was stunned at how beautiful it is. I spent so much time there, that I only had time to summit N. Kinsman! Love the pups! My little one doesn't have the stamina (or size) to do the more difficult hikes, and the big guy is getting older now, and a bit arthritic, so unfortunately, I'm without doggie company on my hikes. My favorite views so far? From the summit of Monroe. Even better, I think, than Washington, since you don't get the same crowds. Happy Trails!

Adventures with Dogs thank you so much for watching and for the thoughtful comment! Sorry that you don't currently have a dog to hike with, my favorite part is being able to share the adventures with my pup, Dexter. And I haven't hiked Monroe in awhile but it's on my list to get back to soon. Hopefully this summer! Thanks again and happy hiking 🙂

NOOOOO! The foundation you saw was NOT the hotel. There used to be a small cabin/shelter on that spot until sometime in the late 70's.

Awesome, thanks so much for the information! I appreciate you watching and commenting. I'm definitely not an expert on the history and do not claim to be. Just relaying some of the information that I read about. Cheers!

No drones allowed in wilderness areas in the white mountains. All of you hiking youtubers need to leave your obnoxious drones at home.
