Wilson clubs do a very good job of selling themselves without a load of player sponsorship. Had FG59's then Staff model blades and they are the goods every time I middle one. Less often than I would like. 🤪
Got the dynapower forged this summer, changed my game completely was the best decision i ever made in golf dropped so many shots the control and distance these clubs have has shot my handicap from 18 to 13 in a few months
Just wanna say thanks for the vids. Hit my first 2 sub 90 rounds (89,86). Watching this channel and your swing quest channel have taken about 10 strokes off my game.
This is a tough topic to tackle, but I applaud you, Pete. It "seems" straightforward, but clubs are so subjective in the hands of the golfer. I went from a 32 handicap in 1998, bought "game improvement" irons (Callaway X-12's), and taught myself how to play by reading everything. By 2003, I was a 6 handicap and graduated to Mizuno MP-14 irons and still play them. I'm no longer a 6-handicap anymore (11-handicap) but I rarely ever mishit my irons. I can't putt to save my life, lol. I did find my old Never Compromise VooDoo putter from the early 00s, so hopefully, it helps bring some better putting!
As a high single figure/low tens, I thought I'd be in the T200s for sure when I got fitted, but I hit the T100s so much better and preferred the feel to the T200s. Still keeps it online when I barely make contact with the grooves
Likewise, I’m 11 HC and I hated the 200s but loved the 100s and got fitted into them for PW-6 and the 150s for a 4&5 iron. I thought the 200s were harder to hit clean
Those Ti fusion look good for about half a round. They mark up terrible in a carry bag. It’s a hell of a lot to pay for something to look naff after one go.
I am a 12 handicap and got fit for the QI HL. I was a 24 handicap when I got them. I feel that they are too inconsistent on distances for me. When I hit it right on the screws it flights way farther and over the green most times. Should I consider switching sets?
I switched from Cobra F max irons to Sub 70 659 forged cavity backs. The difference is so dramatic when I hit it good. I'm new to golf so I don't want any training wheels
Love this type of video! However as I'm sure many of us are times are a bit tougher at the moment. Any chance you could do one with used clubs? Would be awesome to watch!
Im a scratch n play 718 ap1s. They feel effortless to hit and allows me to swing softly. I lose out on some shaping ability but the later makes it worth it for me.
The phantom black p770s I've been gaming for about a year now haven't had almost any wear at all on the black finish. Not sure if the other brands are also doing the same PVD process to get the black finishes or maybe I've just been lucky.
It's starting to feel like there are too many tropes about "forgiveness" vs "workability". You can slice or hook the hell out of an SGI iron, and I have done that many times, so why should you pick a semi-hybrid set of irons that disguises a 6 iron loft as a 7 iron and has a bigger dispersion? Irons are meant to aim at tight spots, like greens, so what is the point of trying inflate your distances? Is it to stand on the tee and impress people by calling out a pitching wedge that might as well be a 9 or an 8?
Are you in favor of everyone playing blades, because my argument if you’re saying just play places/muscle back, would be age as you age you need the help provided by the delofted clubs, I’m just confused on your point I guess not trying to argue
I played 241s and switched to mizuno 245 delofted 2° and I'm still playing off a 2hcp but now my cruising speed is a little more controlled and results are actually better scores
JUSTICE FOR PXG!!! The PXG 0211 range could have easily gone in best looking, consistency and most forgiveness!! Excellent irons! and budget friendly too
I play Callaway and love the look Apex TI fusion Irons but like you said Price 🙄Ouch... start saving now and come back in two years time to buy me thinks.
So I use 30 year old Titleist DTR's - currently playing of 16. Occasional 13, regularly 20. What do I buy to replace? 7 Iron loft is 35. I think I need a change, but as I'm much much older need some forgiveness for a slower swing speed. So confused.
I play hogan icons. Why should i help pay for tour contracts when i can play the same quality for half the price. Sorry titleist I don't want to take out a 2nd mortgage on my home!
Regarding the black finishes chipping.... I wonder why they don't consider molybdenum alloys like impact sockets. Impact sockets are black and stay black after getting beat far worse than any club ever would. And they use the molybdenum because its softer and far less prone to shatter under impact forces. (I.E. nice feel) IDK...just throwing it out there.
I used to play SGI hybrid irons, but started to be annoyed that the difference between striking different parts of the face was wildly different distances. I went off the robot tests from Cool Clubs and got the Callaway AI smoke HLs, because they had by far the tightest dispersion on any strike, toe, heel, center, etc. If your dispersion is not forgiving, what makes an SGI with a massive dispersion "forgiving"?
Q. If I'm buying a set of irons are there places where you could actually try 3 or 4 different types on a range before deciding which suits the best? I've got a £200 budget so I guess 2nd hand would be a good option
I’d go to a local golf club (note not American Golf) and pay for a fitting. My fitting was £30 with no pressure to buy. I found out what shaft was best and I tried all the heads I was interested in. I bought some but with a £200 budget I’d have gone on eBay and bought an old model of the same clubs or something similar that came with a similar spec shaft. I’d then go back to the golf club and get them adjusted for length (so buy correct length or longer) and lie as fitted and get new grips if needed.
@hikerwoody182 American golf. Book for a fitting. They have most of the brands. Find the club for you then you can look for second hand. I found when I've gone they don't push to sell anything
@@CHuzz7777 many thanks, this sounds like a good plan, tbh I didn't consider a fitting as I thought it would be mega expensive, will have a chat with the club shop 👍
@@hikerwoody182 in terms of affordable, good quality used irons - my mate plays some Snake Eyes irons he bought from eBay that I think worked out at about £8 an iron. He plays off 10.
In terms of club release Titleist does it right and every brand should follow suit. Taylormade releases stuff way too often. They released a "new" p770 when they released a "new" one last year which was identical to the 2020 version.
Can you go to Southport golf academy. The staff, coffee shop are brilliant and the course is a great starter course. I don’t live there anymore. But genuinely a great little par 3 I actually preferred the place to Formby halls par 3. The podcast will have damaged it.
I dont think that I've seen a bad review of the Wilson irons. The same issue regarding the paint work on the Callaway irons has been mentioned on many reviews. It's a shame because at £2k a set, you expect someone to have solved this, as they have raved on about how much money they have put into making these irons.
No amount of money will change my game . I'll stick with my 10 year old ping Ansers !!! Great vid though. Still waiting for Finch, Fryer and Shiels stroke play. !!!!😅
T100 are definitely just a single-digit handicap player, not necessarily scratch. They are quite a bit more forgiving than their Titleist CB and MB counterparts which are closer to a true single-digit club IMO
Come on Peter and team… you are better than this. I love you content, you don’t need this cheap „the one best iron from each category“ clockbait. You rightfully point to the importance of getting fit to your needs in a lot of you other content.
Sorry sorry sorry Pete let me just stop you there fro a minute, it’s ok you testing the irons as the pro you are but put them in the hands of your average jo 15 and above handicap and tell me if you get the same distance, the same flight and the same strike, come down to earth man and get back to the real life videos
Well you aren’t going to get an insightful review across of all different clubs if he was a 15 handicap, for the better players he shows the more bladed and less forgiving irons and for the higher handicap he goes into the more forgiving, use your brain.
