As one of the people that has been vocal about my recent disappointment with Bloodbath, I appreciate the Wretched Fate suggestion. Also, with Oak and last months Ahab record, I'm hoping that this year will be good for Funeral Doom.
@@TheForeboding No way! Skadvaldur, Ian Miller, Zbigniew Bielak, Timon Kokott, Chris Corona... not just real humans (allegedly) but some of the best, especially Bielak he's hitting a peak in the last year!
Fully agree with Wretched Fate. If you're a fan of Bloodbath's The Fathomless Mastery, just buy this album. It's the perfect continuation of that style (and their previous album Fleshletting is damn good as well) As for releases that weren't mentioned, Bodyfarm is releasing "Ultimate Abomination" on 23th February.
I'm really excited for Carnosus. I have to shout out some releases that came out already: Dysmal: Gates To Apperception, Mithridatum: Harrowing, Black Water Sunset: Engraved Spectral Aeons and the amazingly-named The Faith Hills Have Eyes and their album The equally amazingly-named the Rifth Element. In terms of future releases in February I want to shout out Cadaver Shrine: Benighted Desecration (Blayne... it's death/doom) and The Abbey: World of Sin
As someone who actually thinks Survival of the Sickest is Bloodbath's best, that wretched fate fucking slays pre-ordering that ish immediately! Thanks dude!
Thanks for the OAK recommendation, as soon as I heard it I knew I needed to listen to it. Thanks for giving me my Bell Witch fix until their next album
I can’t believe it takes a show from Canada for me to find out about a band from Minneapolis my home town . Thank you so much I picked up the album at Electric Fetus in Minneapolis love it. Also Oak and Owl on their Band camp page. My wife doesn’t like me watching Metal Monthly because I already spend a lot of money on music. Lol 😂
the guitarist in Oak is also the guitarist, now singer, in Gaerea so another reason to check it out (said from a funeral doom non-fan). the first snippet of the track they released wasn't as snow and doom-y as the video so I'm hopeful
Would love to see more Crossover and Hardcore mentions. There are some amazing hardcore bands blending thrash and death metal with their sound. Hardcore is so heavy right now, it would be awesome to see a few more mentions like Exhibition in future
Hey bangers, check out the new album by Kaptan Kadavra, a turkish death-grindcore band. Edit: Also Turkey is currently going through a huge earthquake disaster. Every bit of help towards the earthquake relief is appreciated!
Looking forward to both Ulthar releases. It's not every day that a band spoils us with not one, but two albums in the same year, and they're spoiling us twice in one day. Curious to see how well they can manage the long-form song format.
I've curbed a ton of vinyl purchasing in the last few years as I was running out of room and money. But two Ulthar records at once from 20buckspin, I pre-ordered those the hour they were announced weeks ago. Oak seems promising as a Bell Witch fan.
Now that you mention it I definitely see the resemblance, "Considered Dead" was not one of the references however. "Butchered At Birth" was the main inspiration, perhaps even "Gallery Of Suicide, and the aesthetic was inspired by the High Lord Wolnir bonfire of Dark Souls 3. On top of that it's tightly connected to the song" Harlots For Suffering"! /Adrian
Great to see OAK getting some love. If the comment section like the sound of an anarchist band making quality black metal inspired by the book of Revelations then it's worth checking out Trespasser - Αποκάλυψισ. It came out last week, is bloody stellar, and proceeds go to Rojava.
At least for me this is a bit of a light metal monthly. Nothing that really peaked my interest. Really exited about the Hellripper and Insomnium records though.
A part of me really hope Blayne will pick Necrowolf Essoterror for one of his underground picks for March but I know it's unlikely. They're a great local band from slc Utah everyone check them out
The reccs from last month were great, also that Heavy Sentence EP is banging. It's not an album but I know you did put them at your top the other year. As far as metal goes, this year is starting heavy!
HOLY SHIT ...EXHIBITION ROCKS! Too bad triple b doesn't offer a cd...WTF. I'm an old school metalhead who started in 1984 with Powerslave and I miss badass guitar solos too.
This is Oakland band Owl's third album, their first in 9 years. They were never a prog band. From the snippet you played, they're still not a prog band. Heavy stoner psych with maybe just a touch of proto-metal and prog influence, but not full-on 70s prog like, for example, San Diego's Astra/Birth. Glad you covered them, but why the patronizing treatment? They're likely the only band of this batch I will end up listening to regularly long after their release dates.
Well...no another month full of well good stuff that's it sooo far from September October and November 22 those were great months for under metal world
Sorry Blayne but that shirt is looking a size small. Maybe next time try a large instead of a medium or small. Season of Mist releasing another long as fuck funeral doom record is not enticing, they need to take a lesson from 20 buck spin because they've been killing it. Dream Unending was the best album last year and the Worm EP was a killer.
these metal monthly episodes are getting worse and worse, the only band I would even listen to on this list is Hellripper, you can have the rest.... what about the new Just Before Dawn album??? Better than any of this crap..
Honestly, yeah, I wouldn't blame Banger for this though. I kinda feel too old for music or something I am stoked for In Flames though but hearing underground metal just does nothing for me anymore.
I'm not sure I would put it that way, but I do agree with you. I wasn't impressed with any of these selections. I love Blayne and I love the show and this is by no way a critique on Metal Monthly or Banger.
The episodes arent getting worse. They're just hitting many of the popular band releases as well as the most anticipated. Also the year has just begun.
