My dad took me to see this movie at the theatre at Eastwood in western Sydney back in the day, 64 or 65 whenever it was shown lol. Was amazing to see it on the big screen, have never forgotten it 😉
the thing about this movie, they had so many limitations to what they could show, yet they were able stretch many of them. Not truly accurate but a fantastic representation for the time. Great movie, filmed western style.
What was inaccurate? In actuality, less than 150 British soldiers (since close to 50 were unable to fight) defeated 4,000 Zulus. Isn't that an historical fact?
@@mikeanderson8603 the damage of the weapons caused? the true sanitary conditions of such situations? and if you read the book this was based on, you'd have the answer to the question.
@@mikeanderson8603 Mike, the reality of that battle was many degrees more severe. History records a different battle, with different people doing the actions of 1 in the movie. From the words of those that lived it, not Hollywood. That's accuracy.
Just a reminder to all of you fans of Zulu! The 60th anniversary of its premiere is coming up, JANUARY 22, 2024. I hope SOMEONE in the British film industry is strong enough to hold a major showing to celebrate the movies contribution to modern cinema. To ignore this movie is to ignore its influence on all sorts of modern movies made since.
Another battle of logistics --- by the Zulu withdrawal the infantry was down to 900 rounds. The cavalry had fled after exhausting their carbine shells. And the Zulu had been in the field for over 48 hours without food or water after reaching their original rally point to start the campaign. And some of them had six day marches to get home.
According to Mike Snook in Like Wolves On the Fold there were 6 boxes of reserve ammunition left, or 3,600 rounds (roughly 30 per man) plus what the men had already on their person. That would have been enough to still hold the Zulus off until Chelmsford's force arrived.
Stanley Baker's name does not appear on the Blu-Ray 50th Anniversary box, just Michael Caine. Funny that the leading star and co-producer of the movie is no longer worthy of a top line credit. So the guy died young, he still is owed the credit. If I was his heirs I would filing a complaint with the British Film Board. Stanley is one of the big reasons this movie got made.
I agree as well especially seeing on his Wikipedia page that Baker was offered the role of James Bond which he declined because he didn't want to commit to a long-term contract. I get it, Michael Caine became a big star because of the Movie but Stanley Baker should have been on the cover as well.
@@CakewalkCODM LOL. I love when some Western person tries to act tough OR logical. :D How is it like solving world issues from behind your computer screen? cozy? Make sure you don't trip over your tv remote. You are so tough! I am intimidated as F**K. That username though... I yield! I yield!
@Dinei Santtos yep love it! My late great great uncle William Hartnell fought in the battle. It shows the waste of war. It shows honour and courage on both sides. This film doesn't glorify war either, but the heroic defence against over riding odds. Nothing about supremacy, just 2 warrior nations pitched against each other. Stick that in your peace pipe!
I'm sorry to tell the truth, but if your late and precise grandfather William died, it's because he was a bum who had nothing to do. because the time he was in an unjust war doing things that he shouldn't, he could have been at home paying attention to his family, for example, and he wouldn't have wasted his life, which was mediocre in itself, because he was an English COLONIZER, in this war disproportionate. And I'm sorry but strong nations? don't force the bar no son! Clearly the British were going to win this war, after all they had more firearms than the Zulus , and that was the training. That was cowardice! They just don't see who has the so-called psychological blindness. It's easy not to see the injustice, when you're the one doing it. it is not? The British did the same thing as the Spanish and Portuguese in America. arrived, massacred, stole, and now they keep calling themselves heroes. Heroes only if you go to hell. where has it ever been seen to dissolve the Kingdom of a people because of diamonds and then distort the facts, and still want to say that it was an act of heroism? You guys are so crazy! Go treat yourself! Try to fix these unethical and shameless attitudes of yours. This story of heroism is just an excuse that you use to try to omit your actions dirty. So you don't feel guilty, or else so other people don't keep throwing the truth in your face. THIS IS THE HARD AND REAL TRUTH WHICH EITHER YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW, OR YOU TRY TO HIDE! AND THAT! WAKE UP! YOU ARE BLIND AND SLEEPING! GET OUT OF THIS! BE HUMAN! TURN ONE! Let's learn to respect other people and stop the genocides and "heroism"🔥🔥🔥🇬🇧🇺🇲🔥🔥 Murderers!
chetdog, The crown did not start the invasion of Zululand. The governor in Natal did. He went behind the back of British parliament and the crown. He started the invasion before he got permission to do so. The troops fighting at Rorkes Drift were fighting for their own lives, not for the 'crown'. By the way, none of these redcoats were conscripts. They were not forced into the British Army. This was not the Vietnam War. They joined the British Army by choice. Good reasons were square meals, shelter and seeing the world. Pretty obvious they knew there would be fighting and dying too.
0:38 A stab to the abdomen is not a show stopper, unless he penetrated to and severed the spinal cord, which it seems he didn't have the power in his thrust to accomplish that.
My reepect to Zulus who even though being technically backward were bravehearts who fougjt for their lands against colonialist invaders llfrom britain.
Ironically the Zulus were colonizers themselves. The people complain about “colonialism” or “imperialism” are self righteous hypocrites and if given the opportunity they would do the same.
Ah gotta love Wokery. The Zulus were not indigenous to South Africa. They were outside Bantu invaders and they took that land by force. The Zulu wiped out far more black Africans than the British ever did. Read up on the Mfecane for goodness sake.
Great movie.. One of my favorite. We have black pusher and clandestins everywhere in Italy. They are using the excuse of the racism to obtain impunity. How I would see our police able to use the iron punch.
@@Karinrinkashi I 'll fight until the end... And I am not alone! Remember that Italy was a fascist country. Nowadays too are millions of people that are waiting the right moment to clean our streets and country. Remember that we'll use the same way used by general Graziani in Libya or Somalia...
@@samarthilahiri1982 without the english or americans Italy could be a better country. We lost war because Italy was nothing compared the english empire. Now we are like a colony and we must accept all. Like mass immigration. We surely can finish like Mussolini or worst. But I prefer to imagine an heppy end. Like Graziani was able to do with Omar al Muktar. Libya was transformed into a garden during the 30's. But yes, was our mistake. Do you know why? Because wasn't our country. Nobody should go abroad to rule others society.

The artillery, of which there were 6 cannons, was at Isandlwana and with Chelmsford. This was not Zululand. This was still Natal. Rorkes Drift was a rear supply depot and hospital. The actual force was miles away in Zululand.
The Zulus were far more cruel to Zulus. Far more Zulus died in the following Zulu Civil War than died in the war against the British. King Cetschwayo was killed by his own people (as was Shaka decades before). The British won this war but neither took or even settled in Zululand. It was left to the Zulus.
Our civilisation had far better manpower and weapons than zulus that's why british didn't destroyed indians like native Australians and Americans Rather they recruited indians
друг In reality, Englishman were the largest in number in the 24th Foot regiment. It didn't become a Welsh regiment until years later. It was still officially the 2nd Warwickshire Regiment at the time. Warwickshire is a county in England.
Britain abolished slavery and introduced modern human rights, the judiciary process, democracy etc. Britain was by far the most benign of all the Empires in history.
Dinei Santtos Genocide? What genocide. British colonisation introduced the abolishment of slavery, modern human rights, the judiciary process, democracy, life saving medicines, scientific advances, roads, railways, schools, hospitals, universities, government buildings and football and cricket. It also helped stop Napoleon and Hitler. The world would be far worse off without the British Empire.
