As promised last week, here's even more action from Fullerton, California, at the historic Santa Fe Depot. Footage from this round is from January 27th, 2017. Haven't had a chance to upload the footage, so here is it! Great train action, on a beautiful and rather brisk Friday! Also got some extra horn action, due to some construction going on around the station.
I got a ride on Amtrak #763 early in the morning, and arrived Fullerton just around 8:30. No later than 10 minutes after arriving, Amtrak #3, the Southwest Chief, arrived around 2 hours late. Always nice to see this train during the daytime hours, although I can bet the passengers weren't feeling the same way, ha! Amtrak #566 was the next attraction, with the Dagny Taggart private car on the rear, heading to San Diego for the weekend. This unique private car began its life running for the New York Central railway, as a premier observation lounge car. Always great to see unique PV's on the Surfline! Amtrak's Veterans NPCU #90208 also made an appearance on the low level set that particular day.
Later in the day, former Santa Fe Warbonnet #682 made an experience on a Hobart bound stack train. I'm really glad these warbonnets are sneaking down here to Southern California for PTC upgrades, get them while you can! The catch of the day, was an eastbound stack train, with a BNSF Dash 9 leader, 2 Norfolk Southern locomotives, and a BNSF Dash 9 in the Heritage 1 paint scheme. Definitely a throwback to the mid 2000's, back when Fullerton saw this kind of power daily!
Also got a cool horn show from Metrolink F59PHI #883, K5LA and a P2 mix - you don't hear that every day! Right before I was leaving on #790 home, BNSF EMD SD70ACe #9051 also made an appearance leading the WATBAR manifest. Fullerton sure is looking up lately, can't wait to see what else BNSF offers here in SoCal for the rest of the year!
