@Hamdon Nut couldn't tell you, never tried them, skeeves me out xD but lots of people do! It's usually done as a rice cooked in red wine and the lamprey's blood. Oh yeah. I like the similar chicken rice recipe, though

I love how the shakycam footage, intense soumdtrack and quick cuts attempt to make scenes more exciting- whereas if you were there it would basically be just some professional standing waist deep in water and occasionally pulling out unformed snakes while narrating it. But tbf the unformed snakes look like nightmare fuel so props to him xD

Honestly lampreys are so interesting. If you think about it, they are the last survivors of a truly bygone age. Once the ocean was filled with nothing but jawless fish - fish that are shaped the exact same way as any other fish you might encounter, save that their mouths were just holes that suck food up out of the water. Then eventually some other fish developed proper jaws and began to take over due to their highly efficient way of eating, so jawless fish had to either armor up or streamline. Eventually, several extinctions later, these things and hagfish are pretty much all that's left of them - slimy, snake-like things that make your skin crawl. Isn't life interesting?

When I was a teenager, I managed to catch a river lamprey on rod and line. It was one spring in the early 1980s, and I was fishing the Yorkshire Derwent. When I reeled in, the bait (maggots) appeared to be in its mouth. Hard to explain why it took the bait, unless it was foul-hooked in the mouth by pure chance. I returned it alive and nearly forty years later, I have only seen one more since then. I wonder if I am the only angler in Britain to catch a lamprey on rod and line? I had not thought of it before, but it could have been a British (rod caught) record (except it was caught out of season)! It weighed about half a pound.

I feel so bad for the swimmer who had one of those things latch onto him. I can’t even imagine the fear and panic, it must’ve been like being attacked by an alien. Like he said he’s swam through storms, nuclear waste, even been hit hit by boats, but that was he thing that pushed him over the edge and I don’t blame him.

Most people don’t even have Trypophobia. Of course you won’t like looking at an image that looks like a septic wound or hole in the body. Our brains naturally assume that is bad. But trypophobia is literally a fear of holes which I doubt many people who claim to have it don’t.

Lampreys are only found in the north east Atlantic, nova scotia, Greenland, UK, Ireland, Scandinavia, and in the mediterran sea. So if you don't live in any of these places, you can swim because they don't live near you

This shows makes them look dangerous when actually they are completely harmless. Their ''bite'' doesn't hurt, it' very easy to get them off (squeeze them by the gills a bit and they'll let go immediately) , they don't actually drink warm blood(which includes people) and will let go when they realise you're not a fish anyway(unless you're holding them outside of water like Jeremy does here). They very rarely come to people too, they must have mistaken that guy for a fish. Also they are very tasty and easy to cook because you can eat them whole!

Medieval monarchs considered it a delicacy. They taste more like meat than fish so they could happily eat it during Lent. One of them died from overeating that stuff. It looks gross, but don't let that fool you.
