I love the accidental narrative here: Sean hates the squeak of trainers in the floor, so when there's a full moon he goes on a killing spree. The voices in his head tell him to stop, but he ignores them.
OMG! YES! Even thought I’ve seen it 10000 times the “carrot in the box” makes me laugh my ass off EVERY time! Sean is right up there with DaveChapelle as one of my favourite comedians. I bloody miss him already 😣
sean lock never failed to make me, a random korean girl binge-watching british panel shows on RU-vid, laugh until my stomach literally hurt RIP mr lock, and thank you helping me get through some of the darkest moments of my life
Sean first became my hero during that moment with Rory McGrath; he was the ONLY ONE who didn't let McGrath get away with his showing off and generally condescending attitude to everyone else on that particular show. His was a special kind of comedic anarchy, and he was a master at it. RIP, Sean.
McGrath asked for the answers before hand, and was allowed such because most of the guests ask for a couple to form jokes around as it’s just a bit of fun in the end. But Rory just used it to answer EVERY question right. And while Fry’s hands were tied, Sean’s weren’t.
@@Ranger1812 as already mentioned, Rory asked for the questions beforehand, and he researched uninteresting facts related to those questions so he could seem smart, which is pretty pathetic... But even if he didn't "cheat" in this way, it still wouldn't be anti-intellectual to make fun of his behaviour. It's not the least bit intellectual to memorise pointless trivia about latin terms and to reel them off in a comedy show, to the boredom of everyone. If anything it shows a complete lack of intellect, in that only a fool would think that anyone would find his uninteresting recitals impressive.
@@Ranger1812 Please explain this to me in excruciating detail whether I want to hear it or not. I'm quite sure everyone will find you fascinating and terribly clever.
I still can't believe it. People are always saying "Which celebrity death hit you the hardest?", expecting Elvis or someone like that. For me, Sean Lock is way up there. I'm really disappointed that I didn't see him live before he died.
The funny thing about Sean going off on Rory about his bird knowledge is that Sean was actually a bit of a bird watcher and would regularly holiday with Bill Bailey... But as many people said he was the ultimate contrarian.
Because he was intelligent enough to know the difference between an interesting conversation and verbal masturbation. I'm pretty knowledgeable about some topics but I wouldn't completely interrupt the conversation so that everyone could listen to me prattle on minutiae of details like an encyclopedia. Rory was just being a prick and was called out on it.
@@Dendarang And Stephen, being of a similar personality, was in a verbal masturbation competition with him. That conversation would likely have gone on for ages if Sean hadn't stepped in with his antics.
@@felisd I don't know that that's fair to Fry. He was just trying to explain the difference between 'the latin' for a species, and what people who actually spoke latin called it. His point made, I think he'd have moved on.
@@WalterLiddy No, it was perfectly fair. He immediately went to the defense of another know-it-all. If you recall a previous episode with Jimmy Carr (can't recall which one) where Fry was trying to tell an overly long serious story and Jimmy keeps making jokes about it. Fry got really pissed off, which made it better from my point of view.
@@silverysnowfox Pardon my Australian forthrightness, it's a stinking hot day and I've had a couple of, well a few, beers, but that Rory wanker is the biggest fuckwit I've ever seen on RU-vid. :)
Honestly, the "Dalai Farmah" remark honestly is the most genius remark I've ever heard anyone think of right on the spot. It's often seen as Bill Bailey's highlight but honestly, the final slam dunk is the thing that clearly makes it as memorable as it is. I'm sure not everyone will agree but Sean will forever hold the top spot of most genius impromptu remark ever during any show like this.
Stephen Who made a famous appearance at Nottingham Goose Fair, according to mythology? Sandi Robin . . . Sean Puff Daddy. Alan Wombles. Stephen Robin . . . It's like herding cats, isn't it? Sandi This is how . . . I once opened the goose fair, yes. Stephen The good girl said . . . Sandi Robin Hood, mister Hood. Stephen Thank you, yeah, teacher's favourite tonight. Sean And he was a goose? Stephen No, but what was Robin Hood famous for? John [mimes drawing a bow] Sean Killing geese.
RIP Sean Lock, always loved his interjections and the tangents that he’d go on. He will be missed ❤️ Edit: I originally said rants when I meant to say tangents
As an American I had just recently discovered 8 out of 10 Cats, QI and all the other shows Sean has been on just a few years ago. I remember fondly binge watching every video I could find on youtube and just how quickly Sean became one of my favorite comedians EVER. He will sorely be missed.
Sean Lock knew and understood that they're all on this panel show to make people laugh and be entertaining, whereas I think McGrath was so focused on showing off how much stuff he knew that he kinda forgot that! Read the room Rory!
@@SunnyIntervalsORG Rory was never invited back for that reason. He ruined the episode. I remember Alan and Stephen both joked in a later season how bad it was
@k c The joke Rory made about the Latin for 'bearded tits' sums it up. Sean hit the nail on the head when he said that only 4 blokes from Oxford would have found that mildly amusing.
@@solongsuicide9 do you go round correcting grammar on every RU-vid comment? I'll be honest mate, its a RU-vid comment, I'm not submitting an essay to my uni. Touch grass.
It's a shame this didn't include my favourite Sean joke, possibly of all time, where his answer for "What was the most disastrous composition" was to sing "Free Myra Hindley" to the tune of "Free Nelson Mandela" by The Specials. The sheer madness, darkness and ridiculousness of that joke could only come from Sean Lock's mind. Rest in peace Sean.
This is a nice comment, but I’d prefer to say the world was delightfully darker WITH him haha. Brilliant guest on any panel show, tv won’t be the same without him.
That “in memory of” hit me like a truck… i loved Sean. His wit and humor always had me crying of laughter.. I will forever remember him as one of the greatest. Rest easy..
@@LuminalSpoon Me too...I'm so tearful..but then Sean and his comedy have been part of my life for so long now, that every day I wake up, then remember, and feel incredibly sad .. Rest easy in heaven 🙏 sweet man, you are missed 😢
@@multanocte6431 Crying does not make anyone stronger. It's a complete myth. If anything it damages your health. In fact it can kill a person in many different ways. So yeah I am saying it is garbage.
Have to love how he got buzzed for “mentioning the war” And his deadpan joke delivery Thank you for the wonderful memories Sean We will all miss you I shed a tear with the tribute at the end of the clip
If anything, you're honouring them by appreciating their work even after they've passed. I aspire to be a comedian someday, and personally can't think of a better homage than for people to still enjoy the work I once put so much passion into.
They say this every time someone passes who are awesome. But there will never be another Sean Lock, his wisdom, his comedy, his whole view on life cannot be replaced.
He had a way of playing an absurd kind of jazz but with words and images. He really was a genius, and, as others have mentioned, we are poorer without his presence.
That's a brilliant description, and maybe explains why other comedians admired him so much. Sometimes even if you can't guess the punchline, you can timewhen and where it will land. With Sean you often got blindsided by his ideas, and before you'd realised it he was off in another direction. Genius.
The photo of Sean doing an impression of a Koala being fingered is forever etched into my mind… Rest in Peace Sean, the laughter you lived for lives on.
When I heard the news, I was glad i was in the middle of nowhere, because the scream rattled my car windows. Such a tremendous loss. Thank you for everything Sean.
I hadn't heard he died, so I was shocked when I saw the "In Memory of Sean Lock" at the end. Rest in peace, man. You brought me many good laughs over the years.
McGrath is an arsehole who also (allegedly) cheated on They Think It's All Over. I like someone spotting it very quickly and coming up with a deliberately silly way to provide the audience with something better. The comedians are given a few questions to come up with material ahead of time but more use it to craft "spontaneous" jokes rather than try to win a competition where nobody really cares about the points. The best guests are those who are actually smart/witty & come up with knowledge/entertainment on the rest of the show.
Rumored to be one of a couple of guests who insisted on getting the questions in advance so that they could research stuff ahead of time. So Sean shutting him down straight away was definitely appropriate.
What I loved about this guy is you could never even remotely guess what he was about to say, but you knew it would be utterly off the wall, usually outrageous and always brilliantly funny...and all in an instant. Legend & a genius.
The passing of a legend! Sean Lock the world is alot worse off without you! My favourite Sean moment on QI was him getting sucked in the portal into the underworld - while listening to Rory McGrath and Stephen Fry argue over Latin! 🤣🤣
@@telectronix1368 I don't bloody blame him! Lol I was considering opening up a portal myself listening to that! Thankfully Sean was there to save us all! Legend!
@@NumberOneChin Maybe appreciate the spirit of the message rather than the grammar. The implication is to have a world where there are more good and decent people and less horrible and mean people. It does not help the world when a decent person dies of cancer and some asshole lives to be ninety.
It was a formative moment in my appreciation of comedy when I realised Sean was my favourite QI regular. Every time he was on, he came out with something that has lodged deep in my head all these years later. Not just the big laugh moments, and there are many of those, but the little throwaway remarks as well. E.g. “I’m gonna be so rich” which I still say whenever I have a daft idea. I hope his family and friends can at least take some solace from the outpouring of love and respect that has followed the terrible news. We will not see another like him again.
Boy, I have been watching so many Sean Lock videos over the last few days but that 'In Memory of Sean Lock' hit me like a punch in the guts, eyes watered immediately. He's really gone.
Thank you for putting this together. Wonderful to see all his best bits and his bizarre ad lib humour once again. He will be sorely missed. A remarkable man with an addictive, fun personality.
I was really enjoying this video and at the end the "in memory of Sean Lock" really hit me hard. I was so amused by this video that I had actually forgotten that he had passed for a moment.
The moment where Sean is pulled off his chair and falls down is actually a stroke of comedic genius on his part. His chair started to lift off the ground and he saw that if he was pulled harder it would completely go over, so he egged Brian on to fall and give us that comedy gold! The way he just accepted his fate and fell had me in tears laughing!
Sean Lock is honestly the first comedian that made me do the silent crying laugh just from his rants. He truly broke me with something he did on 8 out of 10 cats does countdown. I will truly miss this amazing person.
Still can't believe Shaun is gone he was such a genuine nice and funny bloke a propper geezer I seen him once in Coventry and said hello thinking id get ignored as he was busy with what I don't know but he still said hello and wished me a good day no matter how much fame Tv give him it never turned him ignorant like most lost a true legend
You can do. You just have to decide to. Try it, look at someone in a new way, appreciate them before they are gone, it's a much better use of your time :-)
When Q.I. films its final season, I hope they'll do a special episode where they pay tribute to the individuals who have been on the show over the years who are no longer with us: Sean Lock, John Sessions, Terry Wogan, Victoria Wood, and especially Carrie Fisher!
I hope there is never a final season. I love QI. Cats and QI are how I was introduced to Sean Lock. I started binge watching all the episodes after I found the shows and will sorely miss Sean on them.
Missed one of my favourites: Jeremy Clarkson: I had a Puffin last week, that's not delicious, but the point of eating it was because I'd never had one before. Sean Lock: Have you tried one of my turds?
Thank you QI and all involved. Not only a brilliant show, but to be able to watch Sean Lock again. His family won't see this but I'd like to say he brought joy to so many. I am rarely affected by the death of a 'public' person, but I was so much so by the death of Sean Lock. He made and left the world a better place.
even before he died, I always felt there wasn't enough of Sean Lock and now he's gone and like Dave Allen, we'll have to watch him over and over and over again
I’m Canadian and I don’t know much about Sean Locke except for the few times where I saw him on QI. The last few days, I’ve been watching many tribute videos in his honour and have been laughing quite a bit. My condolences to those who miss him. Do not forget the laughters.
Great compilation guys. Honestly got lost in Sean's brilliant comedy watching this and that last bit hit me like a sledgehammer. RIP Sean, you'll be missed!
What about the one where Jeremy Clarkson was talking about strange things he'd eaten & Sean piped up with the classic "Have you tried one of my turds?"
