I have visited Slovenia three times on the job. I love the country and the people. Now retired, I hope to return to Ljubljana with my wife to show her this little known treasure.
Been to more than 20 countries in Europe, Slovenia is just my type of vacation country, the peaceful environment, the breath taking landscape, the nice people... Will come back for my honeymoon :) Much love from Cambodia
I adore Slovenia because it is very clean country what it is not typical for other Balkan countries. In the same time the people have preserved the typical Slavic cordiality and are really very friendly. Warm greetings and kisses from Bulgaria!
I always go thru Slovenia when going to Italy, never put Slovenia as a final destination while traveling and this spring I'm changing that! Whenever I'm on twisty roads of Slovenia I get overwhelmed by nature and beautiful scenery, people are welcoming and always friendly, Slovenia proves that you don't need size to be GREAT! Pozdrav za Slovence iz Srbije, prelepu državu imate! 💙
My two visits to Slovenia were in April 2005 and February 2007, and I fell in love with the nation! I am eager to return soon. Rick did not cover Lake Bohinj in this programme. While Lake Bled is cute and romantic, Lake Bohinj is rugged and majestic and at the base of the Julian Alps. Worth visiting! In addition, Rick did not cover the eastern portion of Slovenia. I have visited Ptuj (pronounced like someone spitting tobacco: "Ptooey!") during their pre-Lent celebration Kurentevanje. Lots of fun watching wholly Kurents stroll from through town. Modest, walkable Ptuj has a fantastic castle containing five museums. Slovenian cuisine in the east has influence from its neighbor Hungary. You can catch a glimpse of Kurentevanje on "Rick Steves' European Easter".
Absolutely stunning. Such a beautiful country with pretty sights and clean so clean and unspoilt. The people look friendly and wow I'm speechless. I hope to see that hidden treasure one day!!! Greetings Slovenia from New Zealand.
My family emigrated from Friuli to Argentina. You neighbours have a lovely country! Take care of keeping the flame and passing the torch to the next generation! God bless you.
I´m also from Croatia...Personally, i think Croatia is little bit nicer, cause of it´s diversity, but Slovenia is really beautiful, on of the most beautiful in Europe. Volim Hrvatsku i Sloveniju.
In my opinion Croatia, Montenegro and Slovenia are all equally beautiful countries. Bosnia, Macedonia and Serbia are not that special on the other hand.
I watch this series again and again ......world is beautiful 😍 and beauty is not restricted to man made boundaries.....😃😇👍big fan Sir ...is anyone watching in 2021??
I am Romanian and I live in Slovenia. I have visited a lot of beautiful locations there. I even climbed some mountains and on the mountains i saw Italy and Austria.
I'm American, but I feel extremely proud of having Slovene ancestry from my mother's side. Her grandparents were from somewhere in Eastern Slovenia and came here in South Dakota in the early 1900s. I went to Slovenia twice actually, the first time was back in 2009, and the second time in 2014 but I'm planning to go there again very soon, most surely this year. Very nice country, I appreciate its cleanness and there are plenty of nice mountains and green spots and forests to enjoy some nature and also very hospitable people!
Jack Brower my parents were born in Slovenia and migrated to Australia in 1960. I’ve been there and like you, so proud of my Slovenian/Italian heritage 😊🇦🇺🇸🇮

Greetings from Wisconsin! Good job on this video, Rick! One-half of my blood is Slovenian. Both of my grandparents on my mother's side were from Slovenia. My Grandfather was a Slovenian immigrant to the USA who worked as an iron ore miner in Northern Minnesota. My Grandmother was also a Slovenian immigrant who met him there in the little town of Gilbert,, Minnesota. They met there in Gilbert, married and had six children, one of whom was my beloved Mother. I solidly remember both my Slovenian Grandparents oh so well! And I loved the potice desert bread that my Grandmother made with a fondness that I have never been able to duplicate. The family later moved to Milwaukee were I was born in 1948. I hope to trace my roots in Slovenia some day. What a jewel of a country Slovenia is! This video brought me to tears thinking of what my ancestry left behind. Given what America has become today, I can only wonder, WHY?
Slovenia is my dream country. I can only imagine roaming around such beaaauuutiful place. I pray that one day I will be able to fulfill my dreams. SML from Philippines. 💞
Matic Novak My mum was born in Izola and my relatives live in Koper. They are Novak’s. My mums maiden name. Thankfully I’ve been there and plan to visit there again 🇦🇺🇸🇮💖

Your country is very beautiful, indeed. Today my daughter and I were looking into European Countries to Start an Academy, and I stumbled upon Slovenia. I believe this is what falling in love at first sight feels like 😊
I’m Japanese. I get interested in this country because of Luka Doncic who is NBA star from Slovenia. I was surprised at beautiful city and landscape in this video. I’d like to visit this country after pandemic.
Oh I long to visit this beautiful little country someday! Quaint, old timey, like the land scape of a fairy tail. I bet alot of places look just like they did in the middle ages. Cultural cross roads, all of Europe thrown into the mix. Intelligent people too.
sanela huska Thank's for your comment! I hoped for Slovenia don't have problem with we, for Hungary find the favorite neighbor after Croatia, in our nationality survey find we 76% sympathetic them! :)
Zsolt Horváth of course:) why should we have anything against hungary:) we r neighbours:)but unfortunately on net there are alot of stupid ppl:) what can we do:) just ignore them:)
sanela huska Real life nothing this like appear. I met a Slovak girl, who live in Budapest. Since 3 years she NOTHING had conflict 'cause she's originallity! I traveled in Slovakia nobody hurted me! :) All the best! :)
Hi very good work. I thing you even didn't know what you have done. Some people can't afford to visit the most beautiful places in the world. This short movies helps them so much to see the world. You are very lucky.
I’m happy to see the channel still active ,I never assumed this channel is active since this video was posted 9 years ago.Kudos to your efforts.God bless ❤
Oh my God! This is amazing! Such a beautiful country and so rare to find a video on Slovenia! Thank you so much for the amazing videos, Rick Steves! :)
"Absouletly fantastic tripe we enjoyed here with you Mr. Steve. Slovenia is truly a heaven on Earth. I l'v those superb, Documentryies. Thanks God Bless you, All the Best💕
Wow , Greetings , tons of love to the people of Slovenia, equally thanks to Mr Rick Steves and Team for showcasing beautiful Slovenia, Warmth and respects from, Ameet Singh Hyderabad India
Slovenia is the most under-rated country I have been to in Europe. The food (think Burek), the nature and, the architecture (in Ljubljana) were so amazing! My favorite part was probably the people who were so friendly and curious, and not tired of tourists like so many other touristy small places. I am planning on doing a slower Euro-trip this summer and spend a month each at 3 of my favorite cities in Europe, and I want to spend a month in Ljubljana 😊😊
Namaste Rick I am from india. Thank for showing us Europe. We me or may not visit different countries of Eupore, but diffently enjoy it by your beautiful narration. Once again thank you From your indian fan....
I see what you tried to do with your word play at 2:06 . . . Ljubljana used to be called Laibach (Laibach - Laid back), very tricky Mr. Steves', very tricky ;-)
Now that I've seen the clips I think I'm going there in July. I would love to see the caves, visit the museums, and socialize the people in that country.
There is a very special event in Ljubljana every December when the Gymnasium Kranz Symphony Orchestra, which is a youth orchestra of High School students and musical friends, presents a Christmas concert in the Gallas Hall. This orchestra is amazing, better than any equivalent youth orchestra anywhere in the world. Their musicianship is top notch. This proves that music education in Slovenia is as good as any larger countries can offer. These young people are great ambassadors for Slovenian youth. Slovenia is highly cultured and a beacon to the world.
I went Slovenia for 7 days/7 nights (August 2022) and am watching this video after the fact. We happened to do all of the same highlights in this video + a few more, and had an awesome time! I would recommend this itinerary and a trip to Slovenia if you aren't afraid to be active for light hiking for vistas, swimming holes, and waterfall trails. I've been to Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, and Montenegro, and the Slovene people and their food have been my favorites of the four Balkan nations.
Dear Slovania, wish to in that heaven in my life in a couple of years. One of the best places to live. How nice ppl... God bless u all n God bless that beautiful land.
+Lupus Fabula Ne vem kako je pri Vas, ampak tukaj se večina bori za ponovno vzpostavitev socializma/neznam kako je kod Vas ali ovdje mase ljudi radi sve, da bi opet imali socializam. Lp, Tadej....prijateljski susjed :)
Rick, I love your shows! Thank you for taking the time to visit my home - Slovenia. Too many people miss it but thanks to you many people get to see its beauties. There is one thing I would correct in this video... as others stated, Yugoslavia was not behind the "iron curtain". It was rather a non-aligned country. Yes, we did have socialism and a communist government but this does not automatically place a country behind the iron curtain. Unlike citizens of countries behind the iron curtain, Yugoslavs had passports and were able to travel abroad [as well as practice religion]. I was taught English in school, not Russian. We were, at least in Slovenia, pro West oriented. In any case, great show. Thank you! :-)
