Great review Matt. I agree with most of what you said about the True pads. so well designed. I bought the 7x3 (low cost point cause I'm not a youtube celebrity😉)which have most of these points except that they cheaped out on the slide material. the 7x3 slide like a ccm unfortunately, so I swapped them for some Vaugn V10's. Loving your color scheme.
@HockeyReviews

Hope you enjoy the V10! I have been suggesting people who are getting the non-custom True pads to put the 3M PPF on the blocks to make them fly around the crease. But since you went with V10 you won't have to worry about that.

Thanks, Matt. I love your colours. I've had a Catalyst custom set on order since early June (as a huge upgrade to my 2nd hand, off-shore Velocity 4 that I've been wearing for at least 8 years LOL). My Trues will be Pride coloured, as inspired by a set in your collection. I wasn't able to demo the Catalyst. So it's very reassuring to hear your praise. However, I'm a little concerned about sizing now. I'm not quite 5'11. I ordered 34+1. Perhaps I should have gone 33+1 or 33+2. (My V4 were 34+2.)
@HockeyReviews
@HockeyReviews 11 месяцев назад
Please send me a picture of them when you get them! For sizing, I would go by the True sizing chart on their customizer. Go by their Floor to Knee measurement for sizing. If it is wrong I would reach out to your retailer asap and message True through their website as well just in case. Unless you have very massive shins I'm guessing a 34 will be too big.

Great review, question does the "regular" vs "open" boot change sizing at all? Does the open boot kick the pad up higher?
@HockeyReviews
@HockeyReviews 11 месяцев назад
I never noticed it to make a change for sizing, the strapping is the biggest thing that affects change.

Nice video on going. So you would choose True over Warriors? Ultimately it seems we should find what feels the best, so I think I would end with a true pads, warrior glove and Bauer blocker? Can’t you ask for the Teav specs toeties? It’s a custom pad, right?
@HockeyReviews
@HockeyReviews 11 месяцев назад
The toe ties aren't adjustable regardless of the "Spec" you get from them. If I want to make them tighter, I can't.

Do you know any details about the Soft Foam options for the Knee Zone? Hard to find info on these online. What are they for and who is it for? More cushioning for old school folk...? Great review btw!
@HockeyReviews
@HockeyReviews 2 месяца назад
Thanks for the kind words! The soft foam goes towards the face of the pad and not the landing knee wing. It would give more cushioning from shots that hit the knee, but not from dropping down unless you are landing on the face of the pad. I believe it is still an option for goalies who used it on previous Lefebvre designed pads and goalies who might not be wearing knee pads.

What was the reason u didn't get the "fast glide" option? Would have been great to hear your opinion on it (since its different from speed skin).
@HockeyReviews
@HockeyReviews 11 месяцев назад
It's the same concept as Speed Skin but a different texture. True's is higher quality Jenpro than the CCM one but there is no point in going with it as it won't positively affect sliding.

Any issues with toe saves and having the pad sit higher on skate. I understand that you get more thigh rise but does that sacrifice the coverage by the toe?
@HockeyReviews
@HockeyReviews 8 месяцев назад
It can if you wear it REALLY loose. But if you wear the stock toe ties you don't really have enough slack for the pads to rise up that far. Here is an example of a NHL goalie with A LOT of slack where you would lose coverage: imgur.com/WAqV1PC Vs me with a bungee setup that doesn't let the pad go up as high: imgur.com/RkXJFTu Obviously these are different save selections, but because I don't have the slack that the NHL goalie has, the pad will always sit closer to my skate and won't expose much.

Want your opinion on five hole closure! Everything now adays is going towards straighter pads and softer boot , This to me hurts the closure of the fivehole for people with a narrow flar. Say for this pad if you got the boot at the 120 degree angle and made it stiff istead of soft , would dropping into the butter fly force the pad to push into the five hole more ? Seeing that the boot wont be as flat and or flexible ? Im trying to determine if i can make pads at custom for any brand work instead of looking at pads that are pre carved? Thank you and keep up the good work !!
@HockeyReviews
@HockeyReviews 6 месяцев назад
Boot angle doesn't really affect how the pad sits above the rest of the knee that much. It mostly just affects where the pad rests in your stance, but flatter boot channels are having a bigger effect than the angle. Plus when you drop, the toe of the pad is usually away from the toe of the boot (unless you are strapping them way too tight). For straighter pads, what you would be looking for is the angle at the knee, you can see pads like the Optik line with Max core that have an aggressive Z shape basically that help close the 5 hole while still being "straight" You need some sort of flare to cover the 5 hole if you don't have super curved thighs, so it really depends a lot on that. Let me know if that helps and you have other questions!
@kylebrandon4486
@kylebrandon4486 6 месяцев назад
Thank you for your reply ! I used to have ccm premier 2 pads then switched to hyperlight a few seasons ago. The five hole coverage feels like more effort or the hyperlights. The premier had a stiffer boot and the angle was steeped hence why i asked about it. I've tried playing with the hyperlights looser on the toe ties but the pads rotate inward and end up having the thigh rise against the pants. I've had to make my left pad tight and my right one lose to alow over lap and the right pad leans against the left one in stance. By doing this I have to have a more aggressive flair to combat the five whole closer. That all being said for curved pads would you go brians optik 3 with max core , ccm axis precurved or eflex 6 precurve? I've watch all your reviews and some have flaws or one off issues but if the pads were perfect wich one would you get again ? Thank you for the reply !

I have been in warrior for years, how big of an adjustment do you notice between this and the feel in your warriors. obviously they are different, just curious if it’s a big adjustment or not in feel. I wish i could demo a set of true pads in the states. Very interested in giving them a whirl.
@HockeyReviews
@HockeyReviews 11 месяцев назад
I would say there would be a decent adjustment from older Warriors to these, my G5 and G6 feel VERY different because of how stiffer my G6 are. The shape of your Warrior's thighs might make a big difference as well since those can be more curved and are considerably softer.
@ss13284
@ss13284 11 месяцев назад
When you get the strapping right the adjustment is very little. I’ve switched from a G5 to a PX3 and in my opinion I’d never go back. However very very important is to try it on as Matt said in the video so that you get the sizing right. In my case I was in a 35+1,5 warrior and now I’m in a 33+2.5 in true, may differ in your case though, try them on if you can. Most noticeable imo is the thigh rise. My g5s ended up so soft that the thigh rise acted like a gateway for pucks, just wayyyy too soft. Never happening in px3s.

Hey Matt! How do the PX3 compare to the Vapor 2X Pro pads? Did you get the Mid-Stiff or Flex boot-option for your True's? How do you think a Large Vapor 2X would compare to the 34 plus 2 True regarding knee stack and overall height? I'm 6'2". Thanks! Great reviews!
@HockeyReviews
@HockeyReviews 7 месяцев назад
What do you mean in terms of how they compare? I got the flex boot. I always wear XL Bauer pads and I am in these which are a 34+2 and they fit big if I strap them tight.
@michaelgraham4712
@michaelgraham4712 7 месяцев назад
@HockeyReviews Thanks for your response. Compare in terms of boot flex, rebounds, mobility in recoveries/exiting the post to the top of the crease from RVH? I wear my Vapor 2X Pro's really tight through the shin with the velcro behind the knee and they're bang on. The True FTK sizing guide says I'm definitively a 34, after your experience I'm a little concerned they might be big in the thigh rise. 34 plus 2 seems like it should be the answer, or 34 plus 1. The soft boot, tight shin fit, and stiff thigh rise is what I'm after.
@HockeyReviews
@HockeyReviews 7 месяцев назад
Boot flex on 2X Pro were a lot softer overall, mine were ridiculously soft. Rebounds in Bauer will always be bigger. Everything else is totally personal preference and I haven't worn a pad in a while that negatively affected any of that. If you fit comfortably in a L Bauer, I have a bit of a hard time thinking a 34 True will be the right size. I always fell off the top of the block on L Bauer and even with a professor strap they were too small. If I used the top FRS strap I'd probably order these in a 33+3, but I prefer a looser pad so don't use that strap and a 34+2 works well.

So, regarding the ProLaces and your design thoughts...and no, I don't work for them. I got a set that had an assembly issue. One side had both hook velcro, one side had both fuzz. (The company was great about sending me out a replacement set, so not knocking them at all.) After I got the new set, I decided to take the 'broken' set apart to try and correct the issue. Yes, the stitching goes through the elastic. It also goes through the lace covering itself. I think that's where the sewing and design might get challenging. How do you a)provide enough lace cover to allow for the adjustment? b)secure that lace while allowing the bungee to slide through it? c)do all this without increasing your labor cost substantially.
@HockeyReviews
@HockeyReviews 8 месяцев назад
Just put a hole through the Jenpro and pull the skate lace and the bungee through the hole. If the hole is small enough the lace shouldn't pull through to the other side. If it does start to pull through, just dab it with the same glue that is used on the Jenpro already. This isn't a massive operation as well where they are pumping out thousands of these a day. Adding 5 minutes of extra time to allow you to have adjustability (which could lead to the elimination of different models as well) would be a huge benefit to the customers.
