I agree with the fellow who posted below me: this guy makes Bob V. look like a stage dummy. I'm 72 retired remodeler and still learn something new (many things!) in every video he makes. Thanks a million for your time, professionalism, and upbeat attitude. You are a great teacher without a doubt. Wishing you many blessings and a long and happy life...

Random Stranger same! I’m a small woman who looks possibly adolescent aged as well so I’ve always been so intimidated to ask for help at hardware stores because I am as clueless as I look! Something I was taught almost 50 years ago was to punch a few nail holes around the inner lip of a paint can. This way the paint that gets caught there drains back into the can. The lid still seals well. Also putting a cloth over the lid as you use a mallet to tap the lid down when you are finished stops paint going all over. Seems I'm working through your RU-vid things backwards. . . Great stuff always.

Hi Jeff. You just educated thousands of painters and DIY’s across the globe. I have been painting for approximately 39 years and after watching this amazing video I can say wow I learned something new. One really cool tool that caught my attention was the Richard 2 1/2 gooseneck flexible paint brush extension. All angles covered and you can reach the unreachable. Save ladder time and MONEY. 👍Cheers!

Loving this channel so far. This set of tools and cleaning tips feels so practical and efficient for a sustainable painting hobby or business. As someone who once injured my wrist and arm pretty bad working in massage therapy using not smart, ergonomic enough technique, I'm aware of repetitive motion and bad ergonomics being a big deal for physical professions (or any frequent activity or even just sitting at a computer). It looks like this guy's tool recommendations and techniques help avoid injuries.

Discovered your channel a while ago, i love your style (getting to the point style of presentation :-) I’m a painter from the maritimes (Canada) and i’m mainly doing empty appartments between leaving tenants and new ones. It’s the ideal situation because you never have anything in your way. It’s speeding up the job as you imagine. A few comments on this video. 2:20 - I think you convinced me of using sheetrock compound (I saw you use it in an other video. You mentioned that you never have to prime the dried mud, it’s ideal to save time). My jobs doesn’t require that I use a hawk but i’m starting to use a metal mixing pan with the compound. This product is used in a case of medium to major wall repairs. Most of the time I have small nail holes to fill, I use a product by 3M that dries very quickly. It already has a primer in it. 4:18 - This is so true; rectangular sanders are a pain. I’ll probalbly get one of these circular ones, but a bit smaller. 7:23 - Thanks for the tip of the long handle for doing corners. 8:07 - Goose neck, very helpful, saved me from difficult paint situations many times! 9:47 - Not convinced by this use for the guide, i find that there is always paint going under. Ok to protect a carpet, but you lose a lot of time by cleaning the guide so often. For carpet meeting baseboards I use masking tape that I try so slip under the baseboards. This way you can do two coats quickly, but make sure to take out the tape before the end of day. 10:40 - Thanks so much for the sponge tip. I’ll get a few of them. 11:28 - I think you never mention this product is the «trayarm» from Simms. It’s not in your Amazon list. I had to search for it. An other thing I’m surely going to order and use ever time I paint. 14:55 - Fun fact, painters in France call the 5 in 1 tool «the american» (don’t know why) 17:55 - I see you are using a Wooster paint roller. I just discovered these «no slip paint roller» like six month ago. It was after being frustrated by roller coming off the paint roller. It’s working great so far. Like you I make sure the paint goes off. I’ll add that, like cleaning the paint brush, I use a small metal brush (it’s twice as big as a tooth brush) it’s ideal for cleaning small areas. 23:45 - I don’t clean my brush every hour, my tip is to put them in a plastic sandwich bag that I seal with some tape. I do this as soon as I know that I won’t use the brush for the next few minutes. This way the paint doesn’t dry that much and it’s always easy to clean at the end of day. If I can leave my rollers sealed and rolled in a grocery bag for a night or two, I clean my brushes every evening. To avoid using too much water, while cleaning, I do a first clean up using soap as you do, then leave the brush standing or leaning in the sink. This way paint is evacuated while you can drink a coffee. I come back for a final clean up and i take out excess of water. Then I leave to dry till next day. Thanks again. Cheers from Canada!

Before washing my roller and brush, I go into a closet or other hidden area and paint with them until 90% of the paint is gone. Much less paint down the drain that way. I'm currently painting an apartment white, so this works. I'd pick another method if you're using a dark color.

Thanks for the amazing tips Jeff! I've been painting for about 6 yrs. I use most of your techniques on a regular basis. For washing the paint brush, i use a nylon stiff brush and it scrapes away all the dried up paint. Make sure to brush it in one direction, not towards the brush handle or else you risk damaging the bristles. Also for the rollers, once I wash them under the sink, I put it back on the roller cage, I grab my compressor with a compressed air tip and spin the roller really fast to get rid of all the water off the roller. You'll get a brand new, dry roller.

Hi Jeff. Have you ever discussed toolbox categorization? ie how you arrange the tools that you take out to job sites? What does your garage look like. What should my toolchest (the big box and the little portables look like and how do you keep from slapping yourself in the forehead when you stumble upon something you bought because you didn't realize you already had 3 other ones tucked away in buckets somewhere? Thanks for the confidence you've instilled in me and almost a million others. You've taught us to DO and to clean. I've gotten so comfortable that I don't just watch, I've actually tackled 2 entire bathroom remodels... so much that I had the confidence to rip stuff out and redo to better specs and permanance! Thanks for the incredible amount of time you spend behind the scenes, IDing, scripting, prepping, shooting, recording editing, VOing all these amazing segments.

Wow, we do things a whole lot different in the Netherlands. Most professional painters including me just leave the roller inside the 10 liter bucket. When you grab a new bucket you just take your roller with you(of course this only works with the same colour paint). And another tip I learned for the ones that are not confident in cutting in the edges. Take a piece of tape approximately the size of two paint rollers and use that to tape the edge, than paint the edge and roll when you are done with a section just take your tape along until you are done

I have been using my roller cleaner tool for decades and it runs off water pressure to clean. It has a hose attachment and the roller sits inside a tube. AWESOME TOOL!

After rinsing out latex paint in water, I spray my paint brush with Armorall whitewall tire cleaner, rinse with water. Makes brush look new.
