The Best Part of Each Pathfinder 2e Class

Alright adventurers, today let's take a look at the single best foundational part of each class in Pathfinder 2e, in my humble opinion. I'm (mostly) looking at core, level 1 features that all players can access, and not evaluating later level feats or subclass features. Hopefully this helps answer the fundamental question "which class should I choose?"

I anticipate Alchemists getting better. I look forward to seeing how.

Unstable actions are my least favorite part of inventor, honestly. It is like a focus spell, except you can't get any more focus point except for like one from a later level feat. The 20% chance to reuse isn't reliable enough to ever depend on. Fun video though!

Yeah, enough to make me pass on the class completely.

Frfr it feels like there should be core class features that interact with it, like boosting your Unstable roll, or a move only available after Unstable, or a way to manually recharge it, or all of those for what feels like *should* be a PF2E experience.

We are getting errata for atleast one major Gunslinger Feat in Player Core 2. Here is hoping we get some Inventor changes.

@@KingFate20 What I'm worried about is that so many of the classes in the second core book, or whatever they call it, needs a lot of reworking: Champions got slammed hard by the Aliment system getting gutted. Swashbucklers are overcomplicated and underpowered. And so on. I hope it doesn't happen but it feels like a lot of these classes won't get the time and attention they disserve.

@@GreatgoatonFire I'm gonna be totally honest, Champion is fine. Their problem is that the Archetype lets people snipe the only reason to play the class. The archetype is why anyone that wants to play a Champion becomes a fighter at level 6 with the Champion Archetype. Swash is in a similar boat. Why jump through a million hoops to do precision damage when you could play rogue to be stronger in combat and have every skill?

I am holding out hope for a boost to blood magic and/or sorcerer focus spells, because divine sorcs are kinda lost with no font to back them up.

As someone who joined a campaign as a Witch just before the Remaster, I agree with you about the upgrade to that class. That said, Familiar of Balanced Luck is *so* good that it feels almost obligatory to go down that path rather than the others.

You think so? I'd consider balanced luck to be pretty good but not obligatory by any means, plus I think the hex you get from spinner of threads is pretty mediocre.

12:28 To prove my point... I've literally been calling out the panache moments, when our non swashbucklers, do cool ace stuff. Swashbuckler, is just so disappointing. The best narrative, for a Rogue. Or Kineticist. Or Thauma. Or Gunslinger. The worst mechanics... For a swashbuckler. So disappointing. And the Swashbuckler player constantly begging Did that earn panache? Did that earn panache? Can I get panache if I, run over here? Its super The Office, and Michael calling out Parkour for every thing he touches.

Those "panache moments" for non swashbucklers might be an opportunity to grant them a hero point. Overall I think these 2 mechanics overlap in that they encourage stepping out of the predetermined actions and have more fun with the system

@@caihly2443 I agree, and I enjoy rewarding our party, for creative problem solving. My issue with the swashbuckler, is that it's mechanically disappointing, with a cool suggested narrative. But the pirate, musketeer, swashbuckler narrative, is not trademarked by the mediocre class. And sever classes do it well as is. If we consider the Fighter, Rogue, Ranger, as bases, New Variant alternative classes should be effective mechanically. Sound, mechanically. The narrative on the new class then, can be imaginative, and fluffy, But... Otherwise we're better off building functional characters, and narrating them as 'swashbuckling'. One example? A Rogue or Magus, with fourberie... In the circus. That bleeds PANACHE... Alt? The Thaumaturge reliably earns bonus damage, which is easily fluffed as, PANACHE. Let them do neat stuff, and build the crowd entertainment. Bread and Circuses.

I mean, maybe it's a lack of experience as a dm (only playing pf2e for like a quarter of a year), but I have never really felt like swashbucklers don't do fun things. Maybe it's a bias because I LOVE skill actions in combat (it's probably my favorite mechanic in 2e) and a class that rewards you for that with pretty darn good damage seem fun enough. The braggart swashbuckler in my group is easily the best damage dealer in the party (as of level 4)

@@commenter1430 YMMV. And if it's working for y'all, that's fantastic. I will say, that our party of non SB, use skills and exploit the battlefield, terrain, cover, We have Tumbling, Athletics actions, Demoralizes and diversions, and RKs, all over the place. Just about everything the SB is 'incentivized' to do. We have a very Captain Jack Sparrow Rogue in our party, absolutely abusing the scenery. My only gripe with our host here, is how much bonus points in Ratings he assigns to a suggested narrative. And he demotes points from classes that don't have as catchy of a suggested narrative. Ie. The swashbuckler and Rogue can play almost identically. The swashbuckler can at low levels, potentially deal slightly more damage on a single finisher, but the Rogue can reliably deal more sneak attacks in that same round, So it really usually balances out. But the Rogue, has more skills. Has more expert skills. And will have double number of legendary skills. Along with more skill feats, to do cool skill things. So when you can do it exceptionally well with the Rogue... If not better, Why swashbuckle??
@KingFate20
@KingFate20 3 месяца назад
The finisher damage should be using D8s. You have to jump through so many hoops and SUCCEED at check after check after check through out a fight to deal... 3.5 more damage than a rogue. The rogue just has to flank. The rogue can also deal sneak attack multiple times on their turn. With Preparation and Opportune Backstab they even get it multiple times when its NOT their turn. As much as Investigator and Swash are cool thematically, I'm not going to play them when Rogue is everything they wish they were plus a free handjob for being Paizo's favorite sneaky boy.
