The new 70-200mm.f.4 G II together with 20-70mm.f.4 G and for example 35mm.f.1.4 GM or 50mm.f.1.4 GM you have a perfect travel kit because it is also small and light 👍

The fact that it can take TC's but both of Canon's RF 70-200's can't, has very limited focus breathing AND has that 1:2 macro ability is just icing on the cake, I like how Sony is differentiating their F4 zoom trio instead of just making the F4 zooms cheaper versions of the F2.8 zooms.

TLDR Get Tamron 70-180. It's light, sharp, CHEAPER and 2.8 if needed for low light.

Definitely an interesting lens. For Travel tele-zoom, I went with the Sony 70-350 APS-C lens. It's tiny and light for the range, easy to carry and plenty sharp. Yes, not FF but more than tele than this new 70-200 and for me, when I need a zoom when traveling it's to get closer to things I can physically move closer too.

The zoom is so bad its just so hard to use compare to my old canon 70-200. Its just unusable for smooth video like how you gonna fight through the day with that zoom ring 😪

To add a 1.4x or 2x Converter to the mix, another $899 AUD. BTW 70-200mm FE f4 G Macro OSS II $2,899 AUD. Becomes a very expensive lens when you compare the 200-600mm f5.6-6.3 G OSS at $2,699 AUD just saying.

i buy this lens and looks like it have some fault because on 1/800 i get lot of blurry photos now will be need to send it back but everything else was ok

I’ve used both the 1.4x and 2x teleconverters. They work great. The 2x might get a little dark dropping 2 stops in some conditions but the image quality is fine otherwise for all but the fussiest pixel peepers. I’d have no hesitation slapping one on a lens like this.

Not to rain on anyones parade ...but...lenses with Internal zoom often provide protection from damage by impact...I have seen several external zooms in repair due to impact etc....The original 70-200/4 G OSS is sharp enough and actually quite rugged....Cheers

The biggest drawback for SONY is their shit pricing, specially in INDIA the price diff is huge compared to what Nikon is offering. This 70-200 f4 G2 would be close to 2000$ in Indian rupees. I was so eager for the 70-200 f4 G2 variant but after seeing the $ im like, sorry no thanks.

Moon is considered low light?

At 200 the 2.8 gm2 destroys the f4 in sharpness. I almost bought the f4 m2 but after trialing it and seeing the difference at 200 sold me on the 2.8. If you don’t have the budget for the 2.8 the f4 is very awesome

I too was jellous with the RF 70-200 f2.8 but I want the normal looking 70-200 but the normal one is too big but the canon 70-200 dosent look like a 70-200.. so very confusing. I dont want heavy and big lens but I want the big looking lens so I look cool then I have to travel with a heavy bag.. like make up your mind brain so tamorn 70-180 f2.8. now no one is happy.(not saying its bad or anything)

I just watched Tony Northrup’s review of this lens and it is not sharp at 200mm. I’m really disappointed in the overall image quality. I’ll have to pass.

Fixes or zoom. 24-105 is, 85 Sigma, it is worth buying a high-power Sony 24-70mm GMII lens. I dreamed about this when I was Canon. I dreamed about this when I was Canon. Or Buy 70-200?

Not sure where the question went? I'd guess a 70-200 is farther out my of interest zone than maybe some other things that were popping up on my feed. My "primary" travel lens approach was the 18-35 or 140 when using aps-c and I went with the Tamron 28-200 for mirror-less FF. Way back when the 70-200s, f2.8 and f4, were pricier and I had a 70-300 for slr then dslr. Although these days, I think thef2.8 v f4 choice could be less critical for some users and size, weight and price make f4 an easier choice. Also, since I have an A7Riv, the 70-350 is perhaps ahead of another xx-200 lens for me, too.

How would this pair up with an a6400? I shoot stills and videos of my son playing lacrosse . Thanks

I use 1.4x TC on my 100-400 almost all the time (for birds) I hav ordered the new 70-200 and will use the TC for macro. I also envy Canon's small 70-200, still it is impossible to use TC on those lenses.

I prefer Nikon’s classic 70-200mm 2.8 VR II superior build. It’s internal lens group shift in zooming is not obtrusive. Why did Sony make a 70-200 zoom that extends length during zooming? It’s looking more like a cheap build.
