Wakkanai, the northern-most point in Japan. It's so far north, Russia is less than 50 miles away. It was my first time visiting this rugged area on the edge of Japan, but I will definitely be back again. It was an amazing show of nature that had me capturing some the best images I've taken.
I talk also on how I see as a photographer. There's a lesson about lasagna and wasabi!

What a whirlwind adventure this was Shaun, and no pun intended! 800km to the edge of the world, and that wind did not let up 😮 I was going to suggest hanging a bag with some weight to your tripod column, but i don't think that would have made a difference. Your mammoth trek was fruitful and you managed some wonderful shots - your image at 6:15 with Mt "Didi"(?) between the boats was beautiful! That mountain looked like it was literally rising from the ocean - magical. Thanks for sharing this remote part of Japan and taking us along for the ride 👍🙂

So glad you enjoyed the video and particularly the Mt. Rishiri and boats shot. Rishiri is a volcanic island just of the coast of Hokkaido. You can take a ferry there from Wakkanai, which I plan to do at some point. It was such a nice surprise. The wind was intense and it felt a bit like I was wrestling with it the entire time! You’re right, I don’t think a bag would have helped. A hanging bag might have swung like a pendulum 🤣

Hello from Tokyo! Subscribed! I had been watching channels like Simon d'Entremont and Inoue Hiroki-san, then I thought God I wish I lived in places like Nova Scotia or Hokkaido where virtually everything around you is photogenic. Then I found your channel. I'm glad I did. I love all the videos and photos. The last trip I went to Hokkaido was to Lake Shumarinai to catch Ito, the Japanese taimen. Then, I heard due to a series of higuma attacks, many places around Lake Shumarinai is getting closed. Perhaps it's about time I go to hokkaido not for fishing but for photographing 🙂

They are very talented and accomplished photographers, so I am thrilled to make it onto your subscription list. I am sure to always carry bear spray and bear bells, but there is always a risk. I’ve only seen a bear once in the wild and I was safely in the car! 😅

That is one beautiful location and epic roadtrip Shaun! 6:28 was such a beautiful framing with you and the mountain compressed for b-roll. Man, so many places to visit in Japan! Thinking of doing a quick trip in May and quite excited. Also, wasabi lasagna sounds horrible but Im sure it’s been concocted somewhere 🤣 great video man.

Thanks Keith, it was one of the most amazing outings I’ve had yet. So much in such a short time, in the supposed off season. Are you thinking about coming to Hokkaido in May?

@@shaunkeenanphoto I’ve been thinking about Kumamoto cause I saw tickets were quite cheap. I’ll hit you up if I’m around Hokkaido, I put it on my list too 😂

Thanks Mina! I was so surprised when Rishiri appeared out of the darkness. It was an opportunistic gift from Mother Nature.
