I think buying the equipment for the DIY is an upfront investment that I’m going to make for next years arrows. I would imagine the building process, for some, is therapeutic. I can see the Black Ovis builds being cheaper the first time you use it, but not for subsequent builds.
I totally see how people enjoy the process of arrow building. I enjoy it when I have extra time. You can get pretty efficient with it too. I’m learning to choose my battles lately though being a new dad with limited time.
I completely understand. I have two little kids myself, 6 and 3. But the process has my interest right now. I may absolutely hate it but it’s tedious enough and involved enough that I can see it being my “little escape” every once in a while. Thanks for the video.
Dumb question but how often should you get new arrows? I bought a bow used 3ish years ago and I have just been using the dozen or so arrows that came with it.
These are by no means cheap, but for guys without the equipment... or folks looking to try out something custom it may be worth it. I'm new into arrow building, but the cost of the equipment seems relatively low and will pay off over a few years. Plus I can help my buddies & fix my own arrows, if I mess them up.
100% agree with both of those points. One thing worth mentioning is that I ordered one of the more expensive arrows out there. I should do a budget version of this and see what they come out to. Could also skip things like the wraps and save some $$ there too.
I just did a budget version in their builder and you could get the “gamer” version of this arrow for about $50 cheaper. That’s not bad for a full dozen arrows built out.
Black Ovis custom made arrows are very expensive…. Way too much $$ to build your arrows. Buy some shafts and build them yourself!! If you cut them shorter than you need and they put a sleeve (collar) on them then your collar will hit your rest. Use the Podium half out or HIT w/collar and cut your arrows 2.25” shorter than your draw length and you’ll be money!! If your sleeve adds 1/2 to 7/8” you need to cut them 1.75” shorter than your draw length but then you just get longer arrows that are not as accurate.
@NextStepOutdoors I'm not saying it doesn't, but there's only 1 string manufactuer I know of that wraps the serving the opposite way. And the way your serving is wrapped is the reason they turn left or right.
I’m definitely going to recheck. I’m fairly certain ABB and Gas both twist theirs counterclockwise. I’ve got one of the new Hoyt strings and I’m fairly positive it’s clockwise which is making me think you may be right.
@NextStepOutdoors I have a set of Gas on my bowtech. I'll check them when I get home. I have no clue who makes hoyts strings but I know my gas strings, factory bowtech and factory darton strings all clock left
