Have you had any success with finding new readers on Reddit? r/Fantasy skews to epic fantasy and tons of authors, trad & self-pub, hang out there. If you're new to giveaways, save yourself some pain by learning from my mistakes → ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9qO10B_HUhY.html
“Short comment” 😂As I get closer to deciding to self publish, I’ve been thinking a lot about Reddit. The sci-fi subs have been really good for me as a reader to find new material to buy, so I’ve been wondering if they’d be receptive to me as an author.
I think it depends on the community! The mod team on r/Fantasy have worked and continue to work really, really hard on fostering the community, by creating and enforcing strict guidelines around self-promo that allow authors to interact with readers in a way that benefits the community. If you're already participating as a reader, then you've got the most important part covered. Some subs put out guidelines around the ratio of self-promo to non-self-promo posts but I'm not sure that this is a great way to go about it-it kind of encourages a gaming behavior. r/Fantasy just says "the vast majority of your interactions should have nothing to do with self-promo" and I think that's a better approach. But if in doubt, I'd suggest reaching out to the mod team to see whether something would be cool with them!
Hello, I write Fantasy and create youtube videos. I have been writing for 22 years. I find t hard to get any movement pointing to my books. I have used Reddit and my posts never got any views.
