I've been trying to move home to Florida for a long time... when I was attempting the east coast in '16 I wondered about living farther south than Lake Worth (where I was a guest). So recovering from chronic illness and being chemically sensitive I called the health dept reps down there... got led around and never got an answer about any health issues arising from the mosquito spraying I remember as a kid in Isle of Capri.

Iam moving to Jacksonville fl next month feb. I lived there in 2004 the bugs and the heat smh. But after i was there for a few month it was not bad. But i came back to California but now the kids are grown and out the house. So i will be staying with my bestie for a min.

The cost of homes doesnt match the payscale in that area. I believe the cost is directly related to people who move south from other states.

you want to know what it's like to live in ft. myers, i have walked in a store and was the only person who spoke english, i remembered telling my friends " i'm moving back to america " look at this guy he does the old Español

My daughter ( as a third grader) had to tutor a Spanish boy in 3rd grade because he didn't know English. When we moved north, she was 2 years behind in school. No matter what they say, they are behind because they have so many kids that don't speak English.

Looking at relocation because of work. Tennessee to Fort Myers is a BIG change. I'm guessing peace and quiet with acreage is out of the question or at the very least out of our price range. Any communities nearby that are a bit more rural?

Good info...I'm HIGHLY considering moving within yr...yet I'm a hard case...own my home outright in Central IL and small business there YET want to expand possibly...whatever I find...its got to be inexpensive for the most part....I've considered a lot then putting small home on it ...I sure wouldn't be able to bring a nice commission in unfortunately 😔

I lived in Lee county 88-2010. I capitalized on the housing boom as a framing carpenter. The weather is great from Thanksgiving to mid March. Fishing is good year round.

Ft Myers is incredibly boring. Ft Myers Beach is overcrowded. Cape Coral has no beach. Sanibel island doesn't want you on the beach...hence the 30 parking spaces on the whole island. Pine Island...dump. Lehigh Acres....run from it. Head to Charlotte county you will be much happier.

Mr Florida! Very knowledgeable. Like an encyclopedia. What is the best location for tennis nuts? We here in the frozen north cannot get a tennis game after about the age of 65. Apparently they are just getting started at 65 in FL.

Bigger than tennis is pickleball. Courts full everywhere. We do have tennis clubs here as well. In fact, right here is Cape Coral.

I think I would like east Naples or just north. I'd be renting though. To get a friend to move with me, I have to find him a great caregiving company there. He's worked over a decade with adults with developmental disabilities. He wants to upgrade his situation (from millionaire employers?🙄He means NOT NM...better treatment by the employer) and has a great offer in HI. I'd love to go to HI but it doesn't feel that safe or sustainable. I wish we could know the future. Advice anyone?

Are hurricane impact windows required on a new build in Cape Coral?

Hey Brian, no, hurricane windows are optional, but hurricane protection is not. If not hurricane windows, then hurricane shutters will come in any new built home as part of the building code. If you are considering new construction, contact me. I was in that business for 6 years prior. I can walk you through the process.

Hello Karen. The timing is a bit difficult as we are heading into our season and everyone is looking for short term rentals to get through season. Rates can be 30-40% higher due to that fact. Fort Myers isn't for us. If you like Myrtle Beach, or Daytona you'll like Fort Myers, it's just as touristy but smaller. The pier area smells like urine, and the fishing on the beach lacks. A lot of folks we know love it, and my in-laws live there, so don't take my word for it, but we've traveled from ventura beach in cali, to the shore of Monaco in the French rivi. We aren't uppity, but we love beaches.

I will tell you just like everyone else. Drive the area and feel it for yourself. I lived out there about 15 years ago. Many things have changed since then.

@@MoreThai keep in mind, lower prices are usually lower for a reason. Lehigh is still a lot of scrub pine and palmetto bushes on vacant lots with homes scattered and many miles from the beach. Just depeinds on what you want for yourself.

They frequently keep revolvers in their car glove compartment or they just have the guns on them while shopping. Many residents in Florida keep a vicious dog in the house or two for added security. One of my neighbors had 3 dogs, another had 4 pit bull dogs.

First, there are plenty of bilingual jobs, and possibly some Spanish speaking in a nearby town called Immokalee. There may also be some within Fort Myers. Go to Indeed.com to screen Spanish speaking jobs. Regarding pitfbulls, if you are not in a community with an association, it shouldn't be a problem. You can go online and search for city, county, state breed restrictions. As of now, BSL is in Miami-Dade and a nearby city. So you should be fine in the Fort Myers area.

I know they can’t be avoided but I don’t want my property to be too close to a pond, river, lake. Thanks! Is florida for people with money ?? Or can a regular person get a place there. I heard u have to be rich to live there. Its not right that the rich r getting everything.. Im sorry but the lower income people r being pushed right out. Im divorced n would have to rent so my choices r slim. Dont have the luxury of being able to buy
