What is the single best Pontiac Fiero modification for those who use their Fiero as a true sports car? This was a very well done explanation of your upgrade. Great video. I love Fieros but never owned one. I grew up with a couple of neighbors having them. It's probably in my top five must have cars. Probably a pipe dream none the less. I can't wait to watch more of your videos.

@@Toys4Life No worries. It's called "life", and boy does it sometimes get in the way of things. LOL. One neighbor had a black GT with the fancy back glass that actually lit up and said Formula. The other neighbor had a black one, and I don't know if it was the 4 or 6 cylinder.

If you're in a part of Canada that uses salt in the winter, prepare for the f i e r o to be rusted out in a few years especially in the back end. When I was younger, I drove around to beater fiero in the winter and it did pretty good, but it did rust out here in Minnesota.

The Grand-Am vented rotor/caliper combo from that same period is a direct fit on the Fiero. Check the Fiero Store in Connecticut, I believe they sell a kit to do the swap.

What is your opinion of the G.A. kit PLUS the S10 brake booster? Oh, and Rodney Dickman thqt you mentioned for the adspter for the S10 booster has been trying to sell his business for a few years and has found no one so he is essentialky selling off what he has and not making more according to what it says on his website

LOL. You and 3 other people in the world prefer the notchback. I've already seen all the commenters below, so I know you've been ridden enuff over that. Doesn't make you a bad person, just shows all your taste is in your mouth. But"hey", no-ones perfect. However you are the go-to guy, when it comes to fast Fieros. Been a Poncho fan for about 50 yrs now, and have a 301T motor, from an 80 T/A. Always thought about putting it in a "GT" Fiero, but it never came to fruition. It's now in an 84 T/A. Keep up the good work on yours, and thanks for posting.

Thanks, yes, I have been thinking about this mod too. I have had 3 Fiero's and I'm on my 4th which I have had for 13 years now and all of the cars gave me this feeling. I'll have to look at this more so. I have talked to Rodney Dickman a few times. It was due to the Fiero Fanatics club which I still belong too. I have too many other toy interests which has kind of kept me from being a total die hard fan, but then again, my beloved 4th car is never getting sold.

Love this mod. You will stop sooner only because the pedal pressure will be multiplied. If you do this mod be sure to replace that 35 yr old master cylinder for best results. I can now lock my brakes

The brake master cylinder diameter makes huge difference too. Honda guys been swapping 4dr n mini van master cylinders for better braking power.

Connecting the two chassis is prolly the best start mod idea . they sell blot on kits for it . nobodies going to complain about less body flex . the brakes of course are a good idea to. Or even better put a racing weight no the front . That's less expensive less invasive and easier . you can get a brand new weight and a bolt for 50 bucks and it will improve you're breaking times . that and bumper cover that puts a lower edge of the front and prevents uderdraft sure I dynamics plus also improves stopping if you add a front splitter and rebias you're breaks to the front . don't mess with the are dynamics to much other than that . hi early the fiero was a parts bin car... Except the body . the body was constructed at the level of near super car stats at the time . the rest was the cheapest GM could put out . it's the perfect project platform . the wing should be left also . tired of it or not it was designed so that the little triangles in the back pulled air down over it in just the right way . the factory wing is %100 functional

Good video! I'm considering this mod, but I'm also considering some new rotors with a slightly larger diamter (plus venting) as I want to do some autocross once I get my Fiero restored. I'm curious about how you'd approach modding your brakes with that kind of use in mind. (I'm also planning suspension mods--I want something fun to throw around corners).

Short races - might be able to get by with stock rotors, good pads. Longer & faster track races - vented are a must. Search brake upgrades on pennocks fiero forum - tons of threads on all the options!

I like the idea but would probably put myself through the wind shield lol my dally driver is a 1987 chevette with no power anything. my son is 14 and we have been talking about interesting cars for him he seems to want something from the 80's and smaller top 3 are chevette fiero or s-10

@@Toys4Life was looking for one of these and you know how back in the day they would make Lamborghini out of them ? Found one that looks impressive for 35k . It would definitely need a supercharger though and there is 200k miles on it. Or maybe a LS swap if possible.

I have an E82 120i with sloted drilled discs, larger pads, six piston brembo caliper, & steel flex lines. These made no noticeable difference in pedal feel or stopping power unless breaking from Autobahn speeds above 200kph. Reason being the 120i is a four cylinder & it probably has a different booster than the 135i which the big brakes were made for. It sure does look very nice though. I also got an E82 135i.

I'm going to disagree. I do agree with your views on the stock rotors. I'm my opinion the best upgrade is to learn more about how the brakes work and maintain them. Many don't know they basically have no rear brakes if they don't maintain and occasionally use the E-brake, a system I'm not a fan of. The brakes lines absolutely should be replaced if you've never done it, stainless or rubber it doesn't matter, many people are running around on collapsed and failing lines right now because of the age of our cars. And finally, regularly changing of the fluids should be done. Boiling the fluid is more likely to happen because you neglected the fluid, not because you have solid rotors.

I agree and assumed (but you are right- I should have made it clear) that viewers would know that you need to start with brakes in excellent working condition. Once you confirm the stock brakes are in perfect normal operating condition - then perform this upgrade. I do stand behind my statement that the stock brakes in perfect working order (except the 88 fiero) feel inadequate when switching from any other modern car, truck, crossover or SUV. The S10 booster upgrade cures that.

@@kennethnielsen1292 the main reason I disagree is because the booster just changes the pedal feel and that's preference, not an upgrade for everyone. I don't like the feel of the bigger booster. That's not to say it's not a good video, you did an excellent job explaining it is just an assist at the pedal and not an improvement in stopping distance. Based on the assumption that your brakes are already functioning properly, in my opinion the best upgrade for braking is tires plus you get the added all around benifits from good/the right tires.

I guess I made the assumption the brakes are in proper operating condition. Agreed - make sure your stock brakes are 100% before making any alterations. Research and use decent pads for the street- or if you track it, higher temp pads - but they may not like running cooler on the street.

I would just do the brake booster and make sure everything else is in good working order. Then it's a good daily driver. If it still has the stock radio chances are that's a piece of crap at this point so I would upgrade it and I'm sure the speakers would be shot if they're stock.

Cold Air intake makes a noticeable difference on the V6 and likey on the 4 cylinders also. Easy mod.

"Poor" stopping distance is cause by many things including cheap brake pads and shoes, cheap shocks and struts, and more used by GM Ford and more on most cars built in 1970's and 80's alone. Just replacing the tires make a big difference in stopping as Michelin Famously said. Replacing the Shocks and Struts will help too. Easy to lock Fiero brakes that even "disable" and "weak" people can lock them. Brake induced Spin-outs on sandy, wet or icy roads happens to most cars without ABS and often you do not have to turn the car when braking. That happens even on most cars *without* Power Brakes built in the 1970 and earlier. Anyone claiming needs more force to apply Fiero and other old cars brakes with Vacuum assist Power Brakes have problems with the brakes, the booster, or both has no clue yet pushing this mod. In Other Words, You had and likely still have booster problems with your car and comparing Apples to Oranges and you claiming as "best mod." Plus your big engine with automatic transmission makes the comparison to Apples to Water Melons and now mean Nothing to car's with stock engines and many others. The booster and vacuum lines, and booster filter for cars with them, can partially or completely fail, leak, or plug but you and many others just mod the brakes claiming you know better then all GM Engineers.

I don't think you watched the video. I gave very specific criteria for who might appreciate this upgrade. I talked about the design criteria the engineers had to use when making the vehicle safe for people driving in the winter, to people driving in southern California. My opinion still stands. And your opinion is valued as well.

I need to address the brakes on my 84 wide body Fiero. It has the 3800 supercharged swap but stock brakes. Want to do a brake conversion but don’t want to loose the parking brake. I have the S10 booster on my 88 coupe and like it. Maybe I should try it on my 84.

What's your opinion on the Ebay Turbo (complete kit)? I have an 86 GT 2.8. I would like to do a 3800 supercharged swap but just don't know that much about it to do it myself.

I would stay with the supercharged engine for sure. turbos ultimately could make more power, but the hard transmission parts needed are no longer available for the 4T 65 EHD auto if you go turbo and start getting closer to 400 plus rear wheel horsepower.

ls4 and f40 trans. REMOVE stock intake and exhaust and upgrade to a 214 to 220 duration @ .050s(Comp cam xtreme series) for 500 hp. As, Far as braking look at West coast fieros 12" c4 brake kit or Picardkt brake caliper kit.

I like your ideas - would be an awesome Fiero 4 sure. One question back at you though....I know of the LS4, but i'm more familiar with the LS1, LS2, LS3, LS7 & LS9. Why not use one of those vs the smaller displacement LS4? Is it to keep the torque down a bit so as to not break the f40?

The brake booster doesn't make the brakes stronger. It just reduces pedal effort. Go to the gym and get some muscles. Race cars have no brake booster at all for better pedal feel. Even Fiero Race cars.

I've had fieros from the time I was 22 until now. I could squat 350 lb at that age and they still felt primitive compared to other cars. It's called a booster because it boosts the effort that you give.

@@Toys4Life it reduces pedal effort at the cost of pedal feel. It doesn't increase brake pressure at all. I've driven Fieros with and without the mod, and a blocked off brake booster vacuum hose. They all stop in the same distance. Don't believe me? Try it yourself. At the least it'll make a good RU-vid video.

You're in the exstream minority if you think the notchback looks better than the GT. To each thier own tho.

I think I am in the minority but not sure about it being an extreme minority.. Like you said though- to each their own. Maybe I am scarred by a guy I knew that owned a honda crx. @@Toys4Life, CRX? Really? The long buttress of fastback makes it look like a Ferrari a bit. You could actually fool people, with little car knowledge, into believing that Fastback is a Ferrari than you could with a Notchback. But I'm glad you prefer Notchie. All the more fastbacks for me. They are awesome - but 88 calipers and rotors are getting harder to find by the week.. Too bad it was a one year suspension and brake system - truly a shame.

I bet it it about 50-50% with regards to which people like best. I sometimes see a little honda CRX in the fastback Fiero - that might be what makes me like the notchie better. It is all good!!

Yes sir! Didn't you learn in grade school that beauty is subjective? Yes, more people like the fastback but I like the notchie a lot better - so that is what I have. You can buy the fastback I sold and we are both happy (:-)
