My Burton Fish LTD (2009) was an absolute game-changer. I've since added a couple of Spring Breaks and Gentemsticks, but 15 years later I still reach for the Fish quite often because it performs so well in all kinds of terrain.
If you dont ride switch and your not looking for high speed carves, get a pow board. You will probably ride it far more than you think. They truly put the surfing roots back into riding.
@keVINlizzo Absolutely! Tech has come a long way, and I see so many people riding the most popular twins that would never need a board like that but would love a pow/party directional board.
@@chadlucier yup, agreed. Lots of twin riders out there that don’t ride switch…I tell them to go directional or even try a party board for the softer days. Most powder boards can carve really well, and some of the party boards can go switch. This video made me realize I never thanked jG for the boards he’s made, I will in a month when I see him at $towe.
@keVINlizzo let's hope so. Sugarbush has been my home for 20 years, and the long-term forecast isn't looking great. It always comes around eventually, though. Happy trails. [ I love riding my slush slasher switch, or at least love the looks I get, LoL]
@@chadlucier hell yeah VT!!! Dont worry, we’ll have our usual ups and downs. And party boards are fun in the rain haha have a happy and healthy season!
Great chat! Fun to hear my age group talk about all those iconic JG/Terje boards from a standpoint of "I've actually ridden this! It was amazing!". Loved JP's quote at the end on the challenges in life.... I need to adopt that standpoint when things become difficult. Love how everybody raves about the Banked Country! Shane/Mark, I guess we've ridden enough snowboards through enough trends to know that after all you can't re-invent the wheel and that there are some ingredients that will always make 'a good old snowboard'. The Banked Country, imo, is exactly that! I bet Temple went to Mike and Pete and said "Can you just make me a good old snowboard? Like... camber, maybe a tad of early rise, cause I get that that helps... and a smidge of taper, nothing crazy, just a little less width in the tail?! Yeah, and something like a 7/10 flex, not gnarly, but nice and supportive? Yes? Okay! Good! Let's call it the Banked Country!" 🙂 I'd love a tad more pronounced directional flex on that thing and maybe a hint stiffer torsionally, but that's splitting hairs. Great ride! So traditional - minus the mag, which really, it doesn't need that. Anyhow, that was entertaining! Keep it up!! 👏
You guys are awesome! Started riding 5 years ago with my kids (I’m 45). I have a gray beard like you guys. Good to now I have many more years of riding! Love your informative content!
Best episode yet. I was at Baldface about 10 years ago for one of the VST gatherings. Jeff was the kindest and most fun guy ever. I wish I wasn't so shy around him during my stay but the chats we had about shred history were chats I will never forget and nerding out on board tech with him was all time. He was such an open and honest dude. He made us all feel so welcomed. Jeff, people like you are rare in this world. You are a gem of a human.
Great episode!! I still ride my 2012 Burton fish w/camber all over the mountain especially powder. So much fun! Stoked to see how my new mind expander compares 🤯
I love all your posts 😊 I'm from the uk 61 years old and been snowboarding since day one. But I learn so much from your posts 😊 keep up the good work 👏
I bought a Burton Malolo 166 for a trip to Japan back in 2007/8... and it's still my go-to pow board... awesome to ride...!! Great episode and as an "old guy" myself, I love the "back in the day" chat... (I started boarding in 1997..!!😎)
I have a year 1 Orca and it has been all around the best board I have ever ridden. It has it's downfalls as an every day rider, but I love it and will continue to buy them.
Was riding a 97' BMC the last two seasons, 68 I believe. It was soooo good for the steep and deep. I know they're novelty but I'd love some classic old shaped boards, with that super stiff, big camber setup. Awesoome ep guys!
First "Pow" board I ever had was a 165 Burton Barracuda and it blew my mind how effortless riding pow is on the right board. Leg burn completely goes away.
Jones Mind Expander ...flat to rocker 2020.2021,2022 100% Rajadat Gauranteeed YESSSSSAHHHH!!!!!!! Cheers Snowboarders !!!!!!From North Idaho ----- Schweitzer Mt. !!!!!
I picked up a 2008 Malolo 166 last week. Top sheet perfect, getting it sharpened and waxed this week. I have a feeling this is gonna be my go to board!
Another fantastic episode gents! Loved the whole episode, the history to the boards of now. I have to say I'm quite jealous of the long boards back then, would love a 180. That Airwalk boot sounds rad, haha! Could listen to you two chat snowboards for a long time. Thanks for the mention, I'm on Cardiff because of Jeff! Loved Jeff and his classic humour, was waiting for the ole Banked Country to be talked about!
Bigger nose with spoon tech, or a 3D shape, lots of taper, set back/surf camber, and a swallow tail/moon tail. Mid flexing. Those are my favorite types of powder boards.
I'm still in deep, deep (pun intended) love with my Burton Barracuda, the first one. Doesn't get much riding really but I adore it every deep day. Changed my life back then. Will ride it till breaks. Might be never.
Love me some riders lounge chat time.Late 90s into the 2000s I was riding a 175 Winterstick Severe Terrain and then a 170 Burton Frontier and a 170 Burton Cascade split board which covered my trips to Chamonix and Gulmarg. The Severe Terrain changed my whole approach to riding.Currently on a 165 Yes PYL
I have an original 2006 Malolo 158 which I picked up a few years ago but haven't ridden it. Thinking of taking to Hokkaido. Either that or my Archetype, can't decide!
My Ride Berzerker is amazing, shape reminds me of that banked county. its a little narrow but I'm size 10 it works good. iride 156 140 pounds. I'm from the east cost and ride up and down the whole area.and it does good on ice,and love taking it to Utah. Awesome board for Snowbird. I even throw it around on rails.
Guessing Jeff was referring to the Airwalk “Halfpipe” boot with a neoprene liner; literally the support of a slipper with the drink ability of a removable beer koozie. Wish I still had mine.
When talking about pow surfers Jeff mentions using verts. Does anyone know how well they work in deep snow ? And are they just for going uphill or can you use them walking through flat sections of terrain too ? Thanks !
Boards were only cut down for one season 1992-93. Midway through that season Burton dropped the blacktop twin, and all the other companies followed the next season.
Love this stuff. 1988 the owner of the skate shop I worked at in New Westminster came back from the ski show in Vegas with 2 Sims snowboards and handed them to us and said have fun kids. Been riding ever since. At my magical height of 5'6" I rode a 172" K2 eldorado in the 90's at Whistler for yrs and man the looks I got with that huge board lol.
That's so funny, when they were talking about how long pow boards were back in the 90s I immediately thought, "were they really that big? How long was the El Dorado?" I loved that board!
What's Jeff's height, weight and boot size? I've wanted to try a banked country for years but at 5'9", 155lbs and a 9 boot I wasnt sure whether to go 155 or 159 for an all-mountain freeride deck.
159, Josh!! No brainer! Considering that you bought a Cheater, I can only assume that you're not afraid of some length, and for a non freestyle approach at 5'9" I'd go 159 regardless. Enjoy the ride! :-) 🙌
I have a Supermodel 181 owned since 2003. Fast at 114.3kph. No back leg burn. Awesome board. Just bought a 2024 Jones Ultra Mind Expander 158. Can't wait to see how new tech is 😅
Hot Take: these “tapered” shapes 4-7ish mm ie are the new reverse camber, total psychological marketing gimmick. Get a true swallow tail or ride a directional twin with some authority and take lessons😂
My two favourites right there. You guys are gold. If you have never been, save your shekels and get there. You will not regret it. The best place run by amazing people!🫶
