The Best Power Steering Set Up for a Suzuki Samurai

Here is my custom power steering set for my samurai. I used a Volvo electric hydraulic power steering pump from a C30, C70, S40, and V50. The fitting that fits into the high pressure side of the pump is a 16mm x 1.5 to 6an.
The controller kit I used is a ServTronic Volvo hydraulic electric power steering controller kit. www.servtronic...

That’s pretty cool, I’m 1.6L 16v swapped so I’m just running the stock sidekick pump and box. But if I wasn’t that’s a really cool alternative. Thanks for posting this video. 🤘😎

No problem! I’d love to have a 16v. Thinking about going that route but I kinda want to go tdi as well.

Just ordered my parts and pieces. Thanks for posting! I also discovered Mazda 3 steering pumps are similar and half the price, but potentially more complicated, so I went the volvo route.

I am planning to install the same set-up to my 1991 Santana Samurai. It is a Right hand drive vehicle. Am using a Jimny steering box. Am uncertain on whether the cooler is on the feed, or return circuits. Could you clarify please? Thank you.

Awesome! The cooler should be on the return side. The feed side is the high pressure side and that should run directly to the box. On the return out of the box it is not high pressure and i ran the line to the cooler than back to the pump

Did you use aluminum AN fitting on the high pressure side? Are they strong enough? I ask because I am almost done with that same modification, but could not find steel AN fittings.

@@Drewsoffroadgarage Just finished installing everything, including a high output alty. working great, only have to use minimum power using the adjuster knob on the street to turn my 33s. Thanks for the guide!

Can you please comment on how well your alternator keeps up or have you upgraded this and the battery from stock for this modification?

I do have a 90 amp alternator that I’ve had for a while now. Not sure how it would run on the stock set up. I’ve had no issues with mine with my set up right now
