I was playing a Hot Rod deluxe when I was in a full band but when I went to a duo, this amp was perfect. So perfect I bought two of them so I could leave one at my 2nd home. It's really too bad they discontinued this amp, it has everything including a line out to give a fuller sound through the PA.
I've had one for a year, I changed the speaker because the original one was tired and the Cannabis Rex I put in it makes me love this amp with which I can play as much in my bedroom as for small gigs. I love it!
@@guitar_george I admit that I play mostly jazz with archtop or gypsy jazz guitar, so I don't use the different modes too much, but the rock overdrive sounds are very vintage. I like it. This speaker calms down the screaming highs of the amps and precisely as I also own a Hot Rod Deluxe, I ended up mounting a CR too, I find it much more usable and singing with this speaker. The only defect is that it is heavy, the SX2 took 3kg of weight.
The X2 is about the same amp as the Super Champ XD, but with the added USB option so you can actually downloand and store other voicings of one's choice off the web from Fender. One problem withe XD and the X2 is that the stock speakers only sound decent at low volumes to to being very cheap wimpy speakers. I finally found out that better quality 10" speakers can indeed make this amp actually sound SUPER at not only high volume, but all across the sound spectrum. Now at a nominal cost my 2 Fender Super Champ XD's sound like $1000 amps. I have 2 Super Champ XD amps. Great amps except for the wimpy 10" speaker that they come with so that Fender can cut costs, but at the expense of not producing a truly quality product. I also had picked up a used Fender Bassman 25 amp for $60 some time back. So the speaker in that Fender Bassman 25 amp had great lows and highs. So I removed it and replaced the Fender Super Champ XD speaker with the Fender Bassman 25 amps speaker which has a much larger magnet. It made a world of difference and now the amp is truly SUPER even when dimed. Next I will replace my other Super Champ XD with a Hartke Aluminum Cone 10" speaker from a Hartke 210 cab I have. Will move the other 10" in the cab to the Fender Bassman 25 Amp. The Hartke speakers turned out to be 16 ohm each. I had read that using a 16 ohm speaker instead of the 8 ohm ones would make the amp run cooler, but that the speaker would have less volume by about 3db. WRONG !!!. It acutally produces more volume than the identcal amp with the 8 ohm speaker installed. If you want a great amp upgrade your Super Champs speaker. You won't regret it.
Very interesting! I've red plenty about speaker swaps for this amp. But I hadn't considered the impact a 16 ohm speaker would have. Actually makes sense though right? It means that the speaker is designed for higher resistance so if you're running at 8:00 it should be more efficient? Or do I have that backwards lol 🤔. Anyway, great to know. Thanks!
This amp was discontinued, and so was the Fender FUSE software. And it isn't compatible with Fender's latest Tone software. You can use the built-in presets, but you're always going to feel like you're missing something. I wouldn't touch any of their latest modeling amps, for fear that they'll leave me hanging.
You can still get Fuse software if you do some digging. I use my x2 just as much as my Mesa 35, MT15, and JJ Jr. Simply because of its ease of use especially for practicing. It sounds great, it's light to move around, and it's easy to setup quickly. Honestly the software is not needed to have a great experience. I only used the software a handful of times when I first got it but haven't since. The Fuse software is kind of basic and limited. It will probably work for a long time if you truly want it. Plus I'm sure users with the capabilities can modify it in the future for things like compatibility. I only found it useful to setup multiple effects for the 16 amp presents. The Fuse software shouldn't be a deal breaker. This amp is a great value and sounds great.
@@bigmikeyz0071 Yeah, but Fender needs to sharpen up their game, across the board. They have two different sets of amps, those that use Tone Mobile, and those that run with Tone Desktop. Neither set is compatible with the other. And of course neither version of Fender Tone is backwards compatible with the FUSE amps. They're creating a lot of confusion here.
@@Da_Publick I have no experience with Tone. But that’s crazy the mobile and desktop isn’t compatible. Especially with today’s amp profiler tech. Most of my amps are all tube. It’s just what I prefer but I do have BiasFx2 and a spark 40. Both work great so I get the frustration for Tone users. My point was the x2 is a great amp with or without fuse software. I wanted affordable amp with fender cleans. The x2 checked those boxes. Ch:1 blackface cleans a lone made it worth it. Ch:2 was a bonus that I use a lot. But 100% fender needs to step it up with their software.
@@bigmikeyz0071 I was checking out the prices for a used one, but I noticed that Fender took all of the amp voices and put them into their Champion series. So they kind of solved the problem and I didn't even know it.
Great video my friend! I own the X2 and I've upgraded to a Jensen P10R-F speaker, as well as new TAD tubes all around. It's also an FSR light blue edition, and I think it now sounds superb!
would u recommend this for recording in a bedroom or nah? mostly just looking for warm tones (think jeff buckley - mojo pin) that’s it i got pedals for everything else
I would definitely recommend it. For recording in a bedroom you can get a plethora of great sounds and this won't break the bank. It's a small amp so I think it's weakness is at higher volumes
@@guitar_george just noticed your username. I guess that means you know all the chords? 😊 I see that it's not that hard to find used but still kind of a bummer. Also, I'm very frustrated with Fender for not continuing this line. Nothing compares to the fusion between digital preamp and tube power amp. At least not so far. I've been speculating for years at the only reason they haven't expanded on this line and made it more powerful / larger version is because I'm guessing they thought it might cannibalize their other product lines. Imagine a 45 watt version with a 12-in speaker or 212s and a foot switch that would give you even just some basic controls and make this an incredible gigging amp. Sigh ..... If I won the lottery, I'd make that happen :-)
Great video, I did some research and it looks like you can only get used one since Fender discontinued this model. I think thay run for about $250-300 right now, I still think it worth it....sound awesome!
@@fugamantew I really don't know but I tested the 16 voices and 16 effects of both of them. I ended buying another XD model second hand because I didn't like the x2.
@@guitar_george with the fuse software (still running on windows) all modulation effects can be combined with reverb AND delay. For some reason the SCX2 does not afford this option onboard by default. But once you connect to Fuse and customize the effects , you can store them in the presets and they become selectable. Miystery.
I got the head from reverb The speaker was hard to find since fender do not make it anymore Then I found one on a gc store website Works good for me I'm having great time on my journey as a guitar student...
I bought the head only. Practice amp is all it's good for in my view. It has no punch and isn't loud enough to even jam with when you're sitting in with the gang.
