My husband is a truck driver. Today he had an in-depth conversation with another driver about sunscreen and wearing long sleeves even when it's hot. He mentioned that I watch you. He said the other guy lit up... "Dr. Dray? I watch her too! I never knew how much skin care I needed!" They then compared SPF and their preferred routine! I don't know if this is any kind of badge of honor, but you have older men paying attention to the importance of sunscreen and taking care of their skin, and that's pretty impressive to me! Thanks for being such an informative and positive influence.
Eh, I've been applying tretanoin to all those places (around my eyes, mouth & neck) and despite some minor irritation and flakiness for a while my skin has gotten used to it.
I made a skincare Playlist and watch 2 videos per day from her new and previous content to educate myself and then take notes on Google keep and set up a budget to buy what's strictly needed.
I love how as a dermatology expert you are not using filters or much makeup when you record your videos. It lends so much more credibility to your research and recommendations on products
That seems silly! There are a variety of tools anyone can use for their lifestyle, personal preference, etc. Data is data whether or not someone uses filters, makeup, etc... Tone of delivery shouldn't affect your acceptance of research. One's personal beliefs about makeup or etc are a separate issue from her professional experience, opinion, and immersion in research...
Hi Dr. Dray i’ve been going to a dermatologist since I was 15 years old for very bad acne. 20 years later I’m just learning how to put sunscreen because of you. I did the whole thing starting from antibiotics, Accutane, Retin A , glycolic acid but to this day I didn’t know how to put sunscreen on. Each of your videos are at least $500 consultation with a dermatologist. Thank you for this wealth of knowledge and thank you for helping humanity.❤️❤️❤️
My derm put me in Accutane too and it was awful. They never healed my acne and they caused more damage. Not until I started using just panoxyl that my acne cleared completely! Now I'm trying to get rid of the scars so I'm gonna try one of this retinols
@@cinthiasegura732 Panoxyl didnt work for me, I was looking at using accutane but I found that for me, glycolic wash 2x a day, glycolic cream, adapalene and I use a KLEEM 0.25 retinol and jojoba for moisture (vit c also) and a coupleof extractions and my face is as good as Ive ever seen it!! Keep at it, youll find your mix
Same. I saw a derm for the first time about 20 years ago because I had terrible cystic acne. I was on all the oral and topical meds, including steroid injections directly into my cysts! Despite this, I was never taught about actual proper skincare: using gentle cleanser, using moisturizer, and using sunscreen!! I bet half of my scars and skin issues today were self-inflicted from just lack of education. I’m so grateful for derms like Dr. Dray who are creating such fantastic educational content to help those of us correct years of abuse and hopefully prevent others from the same mistakes.
Yes it has new name, in Croatia it is Avene A-Oxitive Night version creme, maybe 3 years ago it was caled Avene YstheAL intense cream. Lots of name changing tho 😁
@@Loostyc True, just checked Avene A-Oxitive night cream 250 kunas and Avene Cleanance Women night cream 160 kunas. Huge difference!!! Same amount of retinal! 👍
I love love Dr.Dray! Thank you for giving us insight about skin care and products. I used to get so overwhelmed with what products and ingredients to watch out for. Now because of your videos I’m a better informed shopper and I take better care of my skin. 😉☺️
I may not watch every video from Dr Dray. However, whenever I consider to change my skincare products, she is in my top list to search for and listen to.
You really are a great dermatologist with extreme passion for skincare products for the masses aka larger audience around d globe!!!... your take/opinion really matters to me especially when you dissect each ingredients carefully because you have the ability to explain most of technically scientific terminologies to layman like us... especially when you mentioned the "regulation issues vs well regulated"... I like whenever you tell what you have examined based on Medical journals simply because we laymen don't have access to these studies and even if we have access, we cannot read all technical stuffs etc. This is one of most thorough and most comprehensive retinoids derivative vlogs i've known... so generous of you. Your Filipino fan living in UAE. God bless u more.
I agree! Her videos are so informative and it’s amazing that she dose this at the same that she is a practicing dermatologist! It is so generous for her to share all of this info for free! 💜💜
Neutrogena has a fragrance free one with a lower retinol concentration which is less irritating. I have been using it a few weeks. I have very sensitive skin and this one doesn't cause me any problems. Although i'm a guy i'm guessing the skin around our eyes is pretty similar.
@Shady Lady Rapid wrinkle repair eye cream. I use it every other day because although the retinol content is low i don't feel its an ingredient i feel comfortable using everyday yet. So far i have definitely seen an improvement and no problems. I like it a lot. I'm 40 and really noticed my eyes starting to look it this year. I found the good Doctor here and she mentioned it so i gave it a try. Seems to be doing the trick.
I love the fact that you bring true science to these videos. I got started with skincare mainly through the “lifestyle influencers” but recently I noticed lots of them are just throwing the same adjectives not even bothering connecting them with nouns, namely “soothing”, “calming”, “hydrating”. While that may very well be true, I also wonder how much of that calming is needed after we followers spent too much in trying many actives and fads and consequently need all that restoration to happen. While skincare can be fun and a gesture of self care, I have been thinking on the responsible and informed advocacy that may be needed (which I think you do provide).
Hi Dr. Dray..As a Med student it’s wonderful to learn from an intelligent doctor that’s passionate about their work! I watch your vids all the time!! Thank you for all the credible and UpToDate evidence based info!💗
Dr dray, changed my approach when it comes to skin care. My skin has been doing so much better in terms of irritation ever since I have been applying her principles.
I love how you explain it fully with facts, that you just don't say "I am a dermatologist so I know everything and it is the truth you just have to believe me"
There is before and after finding Dr Dray! It’s so wonderful to have access to all of her content. She is the only one that I spend hours watching. She helped me so much with my alopecia, skin care, life style you name it. Thank you Dray!!! ❤️
Thank you for mentioning advantages around the eyes and backs of hands. Also explaining how to apply these in what order with moisturizer. Super helpful in addition to the brands based on individual needs.
Dr Dray, you’re literally my guru for skincare! Can’t stress it enough. Could you please create a video talking about cases of KELOIDS and how to treat them physically and chemically? I know sunscreen is a MUST for these cases and I do! Your videos about hyperpigmentation has helped me a lot. Thank you!!
Neosporin has these silicone scare sheets. They helped mine tremendously. It does take many months but they are all smooth and u have to wear them 24/7 or as much as possible. They are waterproof and u can rinse them off because they are silicone. Idk if they still make them but back when I got them they were under 30 bucks.
I have been applying Tretinion for a couple of years. I am 52. It has removed all of the discoloration on my left side of my neck for driving 25 years as a home health nurse and never applying sun screen. I now use sunscreen thanks to you. I’m so excited that you are nearing the one million followers mark.
YES I'm also a home health nurse Florida 6 years just treated for skin cancer lesion on L hand . Fortunately nothing aggressive . Awakening though sunscreen DAILY now on top hands as well . Foolish I never considered this ! We Floridians tend to only use sunscreen for outdoor activities not daily exposure 🙄
Annette Bowman hi! I live in the SE US, and have exposed myself for 25 years to the strong sun. I’ve got so much sun damage, especially on my left side. Approximately how long did it take for your discoloration to fade? I’m so happy it works for you and I’m hoping it will work for me too! Thank you in advance. 😊🙏
I bought Cerave retinol serum after watching this video, the results on my acne scars is great, first product that actually works on me (chin hyperpigmentation). Thank you! I was able to go out without foundation/concealer for the first time in decades.
Hello glad to hear it helped with scarring my son also has acne scars is it the therapy retinol in the blue bottle thank you very much the one she had in her hand reviewing
As a med student i appreciate so much your videos (we dont get to study that much things like moisturizers and their efficacy), now i literally know the meaning of almost every single ingredient, you are so good teaching!!! In fact, you should run your own line of products! Lots of hugs from spain ❤️❤️
Agreed! As a medical student, your channel has really helped me out alot as we don't get to focus much on cosmetic dernatology. Your teaching and information is providing me with a good base! Thankyou!
I've been watching you for a while now (I'm a silent viewer lol!), but I want to let you know that you've inspired me to create a better skincare routine! I'm 27 years old now, and I've been passionate about my skin since I was about 15 years old when I realized that I cannot leave the house without sunscreen. Now I watch your vids anytime I need your drugstore review. Thank you!!! (I'm also a Houstonian) :)
The retinol wouldn’t have any effect in such a short period of time, but perhaps the other ingredients are hydrating your skin more than you’re used to 😊
Dr. Dray , could you make a video on hyperpigmentation on the body, especially for people of color? I’ve always had issues with dark inner thighs, armpits, elbows, knees, now my lips too . What can I do? What products are safe for intimate/ sensitive areas? I’ve tried Kojic acid soap, turmeric soap and scrubs + lotions. I’ve seen a lot of girls with these issues but there doesn’t seem to be a clear answer . Could you tell us about the “Madam Glow” products ? Please help 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
As a woman of color ( African - American ) I too have issues of hyperpigmentation . I would love for Dr Dray to talk about Kojic soaps and similar products and their effectiveness .
I woke up this morning and was saying i need something for my inner thighs i was waiting for beauty supply store to open what i used in the past worked great it is called nadina inexpensive and get great results try it iam a licensed esthetician african American
Thank you Dr Dray for sharing your expertise for the public. I use to spend lots of $$$ on skin care products, now I watch one of your videos before I head to Walmart to buy my skin care products, and I'm confident about it! 👍
I started using the Avene night creme when she did this video. I'm "just" 27 but it has still smoothened my skin so much in these two years, I feel like it is good for preventing aging of the skin. Retinaldehyde is my love now. Just found out that eye bags can flare up if you use it too often around the tear trough, but that also went away in a day.
It's obvious that I'm black and very proud to say that I started following your advice especially after purchasing Eucerin very dry skin lotion, after watching your video. I've noticed a difference in my under my neck in one use! The only reason I meant my race is because we can learn for all races.. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Don’t worry about the comment I understand your comment my son in law is black with beautiful clear skin but needs strong moisturizer otherwise his skin burns and you’re right we learn from each other
Unfortunately being a very dark skinned Maltese woman living in Australia, black people or very dark olive skin people have VERY different skin concerns. We, unfortunately have to be very careful & cautious about topical AHA/Retinol etc creams/ointments, for the same reason our type of skin cannot use certain types of Laser or Needling treatments as the actually make the skin overreact & the minimal pin pricks on a white skin person which helps their skin can be quite drastic or detrimental on a dark skinned person. So thank you to the black women, Deb Lowery, who mentioned this about her skin as this helps people like me know what works in our type of skin and to the person who made that comment about why you have to be this way, please understand that it is different for our skin & understand that she said that to help other people with difficult dark skin. Even when I go to a Dermatologist, I have to ask if they have experience dealing with dark olive skin or I see a person who also is ethnic, as they understand our type of skin better; it’s not a racial thing but an understanding thing. If the type of treatments used on our skin are too drastic, we can end up with white marks/ spots on our skin our melanin gets damaged. Or keloid scaring, which I have on my abdomen from surgery, which I can assure you is quite thick, annoying & very dark scarring.
Ok all I use the Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Repair Regenerating Cream ACCELERATED RETINOL-SA for the last 7-9 months, I am male, who works in the out doors. I have a routine I've stuck to for years with Neutrogena Micro Dermabrasion products, and always switched to different routines to improve skin cleansing. I do not sun bath period! I don't smoke, I was developing fie lines across my forehead, between my eyes and top bride of my nose. This cream has reduced, in a major way those lines. I started seeing results in the last two weeks after consistent use. I am amazed at the results, I am 57 years old. My skin is looking like 35 year old, this cream I stand by and use faithfully. TIP I use fragrance free
56 here. I've been using it for a month now and am very impressed. My skin hasn't looked this good in decades. They say you can see results in a week and I definitely did. Can't wait to see what happens after a year.
I love this Neutrogena regenerating cream! I used the Olay retinol 24 for a year and it did NOTHING for my skin.I started using the Neutrogena and saw results in 2wks!
Can I say that I really appreciate you. I have been searching for answers, but every "magazine" article is clearly pay to play, so TY people like you have been a great source of information.
@@sarat8389 I used la roche posay spf 50 and moistrizer by la roche posay. But differin stopped working for me after 1 year. I’ve been using accutane for the past 3 months.
@@ragh9014 My experience was not bad, I had a purge phase but that wasn’t bad. I also used some other products like niacinimide for the scarring etc... After a year it stopped working bc my acne was too deep under my skin apparently and it came back. So i’ve been using accutane for the past 3 months now. I started with 20mg and now i’m using 30mg. I’m seeing a result but i have a lot of scars...
Adapalene is becoming more available at a lot of stores, and at much cheaper prices than when it came out on the market. I have bought it at Family Dollar stores for $9 bucks (in Michigan). It works just as good as the name brand Differin Adapalene products.
I´m 51 and I have rosacea. Watching your videos helped me in my decision to start with Retinol, and 3 months ago I chose the B3 serum from La ROche Posay and applied once a week, then 2 and now 3 always at night. My skin has not only not suffered any irritation by this product, or the way I introduced it, but I feel it is a lot more tense, or plumper, definitely improved the appearance. I have not seen improvement in the neck though. In this video you mention an age reference, I would find it very helpful if you could relate the products with certain ages as to have in mind when selecting one. Thank yoooo
Differin (imported by my friend - can not get it here in Germany!) changed my life in my 40s. I will never give up this magic. My adult cystic acne is just GONE. And Dr.Dray was my inspiration. THANK YOU!
I turned 32 this year and am starting to battle acne like I use to have in high school, hormones, stress, you name it and it's probably contributing. I have never really been big on taking care of my skin but I find my breakouts affecting my confidence. I have tried to find informative resources to help me solve my problems without needing a list of 15 products. This was super valuable and gives me the confidence that i am buying products that will actually work for me. Thank you for the info!
I don’t know to say how much I appreciate you. I am a 65 year old new to RU-vid watcher. You are such a wonderful, true info, no agenda person out there. I love you show us how tot results without the spending BS. Thank thank you thank you!
This has been the most informative video on Retin A and other Retin A derivatives I've seen on YT. I'm sure there are many others but I really appreciate the information you share. I love your glowing skin too!
Seriously, 5 years ago I purchased the Neutrogena rapid wrinkle repair for night time and the moisturizer with the SPF for the day. It was a two pack. It made my skin tone very even. I was actually surprised because so many products don’t work as well as they claim.
Same result here. Love this product. When using it I only apply moisturiser under my eyes before applying the Neutrogena. I prefer not to get it that close to my eyes. No other moisturiser is needed for my skin on the nights that I use it.
I bought the Neutrogena and I’m impressed! It’s def faded sunspots on the back of my hands. I’m now focusing on mouth wrinkles to see if there will be a difference there.
Me too !!!! When I used to live in US I used to see CeraVe (2011) but never tried because I was using at that time Avene. Now I can’t live without ceraVe❤️💋🥰
Ikr and preferably with same ingredient list. Cerave they sell in France has ceramides almost at the bottom of the list. Which is quite frustrating, price is higher too.
I tried many from cerave brand. I can confirm with confidence that foaming or gentle cleanser with moisturising lotion are the best of all their products
You are amazing! Found your priceless videos 3 weeks ago. I"ve been watching one after the other every chance i get. You are changing the way we look at skin care. Educating us on what is important and helping us get a better bang for our dollar. Thank you soo much for talking about skin conditions as well and keeping us up to date on scientific trials. Never under estimate what a wonderful thing your doing. Best to you on your journey!!!
Seriously am i the only one who thinks dr dray voice is so therapeutic, i love watching your videos specially during my skin care routine , i feel i so much doing it right 😂❤️
So glad adapalene is good for anti-aging because it is the only retinoid I can tolerate, due to having rosacea. Still I have to be really careful. I can only use the smallest amount of adapalene, and I can only use it if I'm also using my prescription azelaic acid to keep redness under control.
Hi Dr Dray. Can you explain the difference between hyperpigmentation and Melasma. Also, would you consider doing a video dedicated to Melasma and the best procedures and products to treat it. Thank you.
The Retinol resurfacing serum has almost completely removed all of my keratosis pilaris scarring on my arms in only roughly 3 months. I am finally wearing short sleeve tops after hiding my arms for nearly 10 years! ❤️🥲
Omg I’m so glad you mentioned the cerave retinol bc I have been using it everyday for 3 months and my skin looks so glowy and beautiful. I used to be on accutane two years ago and I had acne marks on my cheeks that never cleared up to my liking. So the retinol has greatly improved my scars almost all faded out !!!
Surmaee Kelkar my skin doesn’t get irritated easily so I use it in the morning and night. I recommend you probably try it out every other day once a day just to start so it doesn’t cause irritation !
Madz Z did you notice any difference with wrinkles? I’m just noticed these super fine lines that go vertical on my forehead and I want to reverse it before it gets worse lol
Thank you for breaking it down! Very helpful! I am now in my 50’s and I have developed sensitivity to products and my skin is super dry. I have always been a loyal Paula’s Choice fan but some of their retinols are causing me to have reactions. I love the information in this video, especially for sensitive dry skin.
I appreciate these educational videos. My city has a university medical school but there is a severe dermatologist shortage here. (I think they focus on skin cancer patients, Mohs surgery, and severe skin conditions.) Hard to see a dermatologist for specialized info like this. 🙌🏻
You should do a video on derma rollers and items bought on Amazon that people buy to improve their skin and give your thoughts on whether they work or actually harm our skin. Thanks for these awesome videos!!!!
I'm already using Avene Retrinal 0.1 intensive, just came in here to confirm this is a good choice! I like to use their .05 product around my eyes, it really helps! I'm 60 and don't look it at all!
Thank you for all the info people get discouraged with the peeling and the irritation at first .. I’m glad you explained how to use it and where to use it ! I’ve Ben using retinol for 4 months and the hyperpigmentation on my skin omg has gotten so much better you can hardly see it at all!! Because I’m the type of the person who if I get acne it turns dark thank you!!!
I have nothing but good things to say about the cerave retinol! It’s helped my redness from rosacea and acne more than any other product I have ever used. It’s literally changed my life.
@@technoMinded90 so I used it every 2-3 nights… I washed my face first with Vanicream face wash, then I used the retinol and then moisturized with the cerave PM moisturizer. That was my skin care routine. So update from 3 months ago when I posted the original comment- I had some trouble finding the cerave retinol for a while and got the neutrogena rapid wrinkle repair (unscented) with retinol and I love it too and in someways more than the cerave because it’s a moisturizer and retinol all in one and it’s not as harsh so I can use it every night…. I just wash my face with the vanicream face wash and then use the neutrogena and that’s it. No extra bottles or moisturizers and it works just as well and my face is still like I said in the original comment the best it’s ever been in my entire life. I almost never have break outs and the redness from the rosacea is practically non existent (for the most part- it will still flare up every now and then but nothing like before) And tip no matter what you do it takes time to see a difference. Give it a month or so before you decide if somethings truly helping you or not. - if somethings irritating your skin or burning or making thing’s instantly worse then stop using them… but to see progressive change it takes time and consistency. And only change one product at a time so that way if somethings not working then you know which product to not use anymore.
My skin is loving adapalene and I can't believe it! I'm fair with freckled, dry, sensitive skin and I've been on it for two months. I really attribute how well my skin has acclimated to the simple skincare tips I've picked up from Dr. Dray as well as her differin application videos.
October 2021, watching this video AGAIN! What a fantastic teacher, a wealth of FREE information and as usual, I feel like this doctor actually cares about us! I’m adding products to my shopping cart based in the Doc and other people’s comments.
@Elly USA hi I have melasma, hyperpigmentation which I have a dark mask around my face I hate it! I finally went to the dermatologist and she prescribed me TRI-LUMA which is a miracle topical cream. It contains 4% hydroquinone, tretinoin 0.05%, & 0.01% fluocinolone acetonide which is a steroid. It’s very expensive insurance doesn’t cover it because it’s considered a cosmetic medication. I have tried everything and I didn’t want to just use hydroquinone by it self all the time because it can actually damage your skin and make your hyperpigmentation worse if you use it for a long period of time. So this medicine has worked wonders on my face my face is pretty much clear no more dark spots, my skin tone is even and now you can use the medicine for 9 months instead of 8 weeks! So if you see a dermatologist ask about it or research it! I no longer wear foundation anymore just tinted moisturizer and sunscreen Elta MD sunscreen! Sunscreen a most no matter what! Good luck I hope this helps you out!!!
Angie Marcum-Rettig Thank you for advise! My doctor prescribed Hydroquinone , it worked but when I stopped it after a month my dark spot came back worse than before. I m confused and I don’t want to spend more money as waste. Please inform
@Elly USA Hi when you use hydroquinone 4% by itself it’s not recommended to use for a long time because people started to have bad reactions to it which made the dark spots darker like a purple blackish color. So that’s why hydroquinone is controversial to use all on its own. That’s why they came out with tri-luma which it’s very expensive. However has 3 important ingredients in it which is the Fluocinolone acetonide 0.01% is a mild corticosteroid that reduces inflammation. Hydroquinone 4% is a depigmenting agent that interrupts the formation and synthesis of melanin to help lighten the skin. Tretinoin 0.05% works by increasing the skin cell turnover rate, which helps exfoliate the skin. Which all 3 products works better then just hydroquinone by itself. If you go on Google search Tri-luma and you can go to there website and research the product, which you will be able to understand what this medication does for melasma! But trust me I have been using it and my skin is so much even tone, I don’t have anymore of my dark spots! Also my dermatologist recommended to use a vitamin C and always no matter what use SUNSCREEN SUNSCREEN SUNCREEN! She suggested Elta Md sunscreen. So I hope this helps you and good luck!! 🤗
Angie Marcum-Rettig Thank you so much for these helpful information l, can I get it online without prescription and how long you can use it ? Please inform, I greatly appreciate
I’ve just started adapalene in combo with hydroquinone a little over a month ago and it’s going well.. I am a (mild) rosacea sufferer with some dark spots and fine lines and wanted to give it a go. My skin has tolerated it well! In fact it seems to be much clearer than when I tried metrogel and ivermectin previously. Looking forward to seeing progress after 3 months and beyond. I’d like to try using Tretinoin at some point since I’m 39 and fine lines will become more and more of an issue, but didn’t want to rock the boat too quickly with the rosacea. As always thank you for sharing your expertise with us! Have a wonderful day!
Happy Tuesday Dr. Dray and everyone! Been using tretinoin since 1985 and I love it! I’m 68 yrs. old and have no fine lines or wrinkles. But you must use a sunscreen. This stuff is a face lift or Botox injections in a tube. Well worth the price as you need to only use a pea size amount. But it’s only available by prescription and most insurance companies don’t cover it. Tretinoin is better than the best anti aging cream, lotion, serum etc that I have tried, even the more pricier ones. Dr. Dray your skin looks so healthy, flawless! Thank you for all your help in minimizing and improving my skincare routine! You’ve saved me so much time and money! All your hard work is much appreciated! My best to Mom and little Tybee!
You are just such a wonderful person for helping people the way you do on you tube. I am so grateful for all your time, effort and knowledge. Thank you for building literacy in skin care.
This is great! I am a new dermatology PA and this is wonderful way to learn from a pro in a fun "non-traditional" study mode. Especially helpful for alternatives for patients who are seeking OTC facial products. Thanks for all you do Dr. Dray:)
I started using the Neutrogena FF Rapid Wrinkle Release a few weeks ago. I did not have the tingling sensation with it worn with or without my CeraVe moisturizer. It's creamy and makes my skin feel so smooth. I started using it only at night but I am now starting to use it both morning and evening. It's too early to tell if it's reducing the appearance of my dark spots or deep wrinkles around my mouth. But it makes my skin feel so smooth and hydrated. I would never have tried it without having seen your previous video reviewing it! Thanks Dr. Dray! Have a good Tuesday! :)
